Mixed-use project may revive long-idle Downtown landmark

A group of developers wants to turn the historic Tennessee Brewery Downtown into a mixed-use project.

Developers want to turn the castle-like brewery, which has been all but abandoned for more than 50 years, into a condo development with an addition that would have more condos, restaurants, retail and a parking garage.

Rehab to old Tennessee Brewery along with 14-story addition approved by LUCB. Also approved by the LUCB was the four-story, 120-room Hilton Garden Inn at the southwest corner of Linden and Second, currently the site of a surface parking lot.

I saw in the paper the other day that the Tennessee Brewery project has been taken off the drawing boards. The developers withdrew their proposal citing too much opposition.

it would be awesome if this goes through, such a great building.

You can find lots of pics of inside the brewery at this link (scroll down after clicking). It looks like it would make a really cool library, though I doubt that would ever happen. Or maybe a department store. I would hate for all those open spaces to be sectioned off.
