Yea. Hotel San Carlos wants to be able to compete with the new trendy hotels going up downtown (Sheraton and W.) and to do so they need renovations. I believe they are looking a a 30+ story tower and a top floor pool. There are a number of renderings at www.azcentral.com

I think it is highly improbable.....

That building is sacred for it's Historic charm...

Although I understand the need for the owner to spice it up to keep it competative-

Historic Preservation will never allow for such a beotchization...

(At least I would never imagine so)

yes the Hotel San Carlos has historic status in Arizona (there are many neighborhoods throughoout the phoenix area are given the historic status.) They worry that by making it more modernized, it would strip away the historic title, so instead, they are just making an add on and not actually changing anything about the currenty building
