Thanks for posting those retrospect photo's! Very interesting.

I happened to take a pic of Third Street from almost the same spot!

Third Street 2006

What a BIG difference!!!

Back when Third Street was in it's prime. My Grandparents always took my parents to Third Street.

It was the place to be.

Wow, Richy, I was going to do that same thing if I got a chance this weekend! Very cool. Did you already have that photo you posted? it IS a big difference, but you can still make out most of the buildings and the street is still (fortunately) lined with cars!

I'm back from the big D and it was lots of fun. I went to the Crow Museum of Asian Art, the Dallas World Aquarium, and ice skating with my cousin at the Galleria. Unfortunately my uncle was driving and I didn't want to drag him all over Texas so we only stayed in Dallas. And Brian you say you've never been to Murphy, well only one word can explain it as well as all the other communities on the edge of Dallas: McMansion. Dallas is a HUGE city though, it has highrises everywhere, the Galleria area only was Baton Rouge's skyline 2 and 3 times over. And talk about some nice intestates decorated and everything, of course it's kind of intimidating if your'e on the 3rd/4th level high up because those barriers on the edge don't look like they hold if you run into them.

We also stopped at Shreveport. The first thing I'll say is the Shreveport skyline is impressive, IMPRESSIVE .It's one thing to look at a picture, but to see it up close is a whole nother thing ,the pictures don't give it the credit it deserves. And Shreveport is a lot bigger than I though it would be too. We were going to eat at the Horseshoe or the Boardwalk, but we go in traffic getting off the interstate and after 30 minutes my dad had had enough and went to the Isle of Capri instead. Little did we know the Isle of Capri changed its name so we passed right by it and ended up asking a police officer down the road for directions. Also Shreveport has some beautiful murals.

What were you doing between 3:00 and 4:30 Brian?, while I was there I was wondering what you where doing.

I like to ride places because you can see some very interesting names of cities. All in all it was a good trip, but I would like to see more of Shreveport as our little side trip has wet my appetite. :D

And to that picture at the top of the page. :o:lol::sick:

First, let me say WELCOME BACK!

Dallas is enormous in every aspect, and you know as many times as I've been there, it still impresses the heck out of me. There are still so many suburbs (i.e. Murphy) that I've never visited, and many that I'll probably never have a chance to visit. But I've been to countless Dallas suburbs and they're all equally impressive. The Galleria area is amazing as well. That's the suburb of Addison I'd mentioned to you before. If you get off into the areas behind the Galleria, you see nothing but restaurants and office buildings. I'm glad you got to experience that, and I know you're already wanting to go back. I can visit Dallas 10 times in a year and still want to go back. I just absolutely crave that huge city experience that Dallas gives you.

We also stopped at Shreveport. The first thing I'll say is the Shreveport skyline is impressive, IMPRESSIVE .It's one thing to look at a picture, but to see it up close is a whole nother thing ,the pictures don't give it the credit it deserves. Wow, very nice words, Dan, and I really appreciate hearing them. :) It's hard because our state is very segregated. There's only one interstate connecting north and south Louisiana, and it's a road many south Louisianians don't travel much or ever. Of course people from north Louisiana travel it, because we all love New Orleans. As most people will agree, there's just a certain "something" about New Orleans, and you've GOT to love it.

But I do appreciate your kind words for Shreveport. A friend of mine used to work with teenagers from all across the state, and most of the time whenever the groups woukd have an event here they wouldn't want to come. They all had this notion in their heads that Shreveport is a small town and they don't think there's anything to do. But they always leave here glad they came, knowing there really is a lot to do.

I'm sorry about that traffic, but that's just what you go through with the Boardwalk. Most weekend nights (like tonight for instance) it's hell because of all the people shopping and going to the theater, restaurants, and nightclubs. Next time you're up this way, if you tell me in advance, I'll give you pointers on how to avoid getting caught up in the traffic between the Horseshoe and the Boardwalk! It's really easy to avoid it, but someone from around here would have to tell you how. Most of that traffic is people from out of town, mainly DFW residents, and they have no idea there are easier ways into that area.

I'm also glad you thought the skyline was impressive and that the city was larger than you'd thought. It's definitely not small, though compared to Dallas it's like a lone chocolate chip! But we have what many consider to be an impressive skyline for a city of 200,000 and an impressive freeway system as well. Our freeway system is mostly why our traffic isn't as bad as Baton Rouge's except around rush hour. And tonight... traffic was hell on I-20 tonight.

Isle of Capri recently became Diamond Jack's and the quality has gone downhill big-time. We had some friends come into town on Tuesday or Wednesday last week and they stayed there. They said the rooms were very cruddy for a casino hotel. That's a shame, but I'm not totally surprised.

About 3:00-4:30 pm I was still here hanging around the house. I slept pretty late yesterday morning and I just kind of lazed around the house. It was a good day to be lazy. lol We didn't even leave the house until dinner time last night. We went downtown for Chinese and then headed to southeast Shreveport to shop for Christmas decorations at SuperTarget.

Hey, it's too bad you couldn't have spent the night in Shreveport tonight. We had the huge fireworks show which is EASILY one of the best and largest anywhere in the country, even compared to places like Dallas, Houston, Chicago, etc. It was quite impressive and our friends who drove down from Texarkana were SO happy they came. They said they plan to catch that fireworks show every year from now on. They not only have the fireworks, but also a large festival with rides and vendors, and live bands playing. And the fireworks are choreographed to sync with the Christmas music of the awesome Trans-Siberian Orchestra who actually just played here a couple weeks ago. It's quite an event. Afterward we all went over to Cane's and Krispy Kreme. Yeah, I know we're pigs! :D

Oh, and you're welcome to come back any time, bud!! If there's any advice I can give you next time you're up this way, just ask.

I'm watching out for the Voodoo curse that Dan has brought upon this forum tonight.

If I were you, I would make sure your McAfee AntiVoodooCurse software is up to date, because that could be a lifesaver. If you have a VooDoo blocker, make sure to turn it on too!

You see this Dan, you see what you've done!

Yep, posting away like the up-all-night fools that we are!

She does question my love for cities, Urban Planet, etc. But she's never understood my fascination with cities. Back when we were dating and she was new to Shreveport, I'm sure she knew the entire history of the city in the first week.

But it's all good, she knows that the urban life is my kind of life (so what if I live in a town of 3,000 right now!!!) :D

I think we've found why you love UrbanPlanet so much.

My take: When you're at work, you're in an area where you can experience the urban life, but when you're at home...not so much. So when you're at home, UrbanPlanet is simply your ticket into the urban world and its urban wonderfulness. When you're on UP at work, well, you're probably just bored! ;)
