I'm a little behind the curve on this one, but I have just read that the Sheraton Russell and the Drake (Swissotel) on Park Avenue are to be demolished. By this time, I would assume that the endearing and diminutive Russell is already gone. I find it hard to believe the idiocy of such decisions. The Drake was designed by Emery Roth (another lost Roth building was the handsome Dorset, sacrificed for the awful Museum Tower at MOMA). Has the Landmarks Commission completely sold out to developers from New Jersey? This is disgraceful.
