What is the current status of the project?

To the best of my knowledge, they will be breaking ground very soon. The owner/developer appears to have his permits and papers in order.

Bacaran Bay Receives Approval

Bacaran Bay will soon be on its way up in Point Cadet. This is a significant step forward. With reference to the idea of views being blocked, this area has been designated by the planners on the Governor's Commission for high-rise towers. From the Sun Herald.

Bacaran Bay Construction Will Begin Later This Year

Final approval is expected from the Mississippi Gaming Commission in April. The resort looks ambitious, if not anything out of the ordinary in an architectural sense. The following article also has a video with the projected models... WLOX Channel 13

Bacaran Bay Terminates Lease

The land lease for the Bacaran Bay project has been terminated. I had thought that this project would be built, but this may possibly mean otherwise. I'm hoping that this is simply a legal maneuver, but this may not be good news.

Bacaran Bay Appears to be Back on Track

The Bacaran Bay project appears to have gained new life. Marlon Torguson will not be directly involved in the reincarnation of the project. it would seem that condos will not be a part of the new hotel and casino. The number of hotel rooms has changed as well- perhaps something on the order of 800 or so rooms will be built in the first phase, with another 300 to come later. Amenities like the bowling alley- and probably the wedding chapel, have been scratched as well. The rendering in the article below depicts an earlier vision of the project. I would hope that the new version will be more attractive, but I wouldn't hold my breath for anything significant. The end result will likely be a faux-Med design which could be found anywhere along the Gulf Coast or in Florida.
