A word of advice.. be wary of the Coffee House forum.. Every thread gets hijacked and turned into a political argument, and not always one based upon reason or the ability to internalize arguments contrary to one's own beliefs like the political arguments here have been...

I'm thinking about starting individual threads for Foxwoods/Pequot and Mohegan developments. There is news coming in about them left and right including the casino being developed in the virgin islands by Foxwoods, property acquisitions regionwide for ancillary developments or tribal uses, and the expansion of their current respective resorts.

I'm trying to get enough going for a Southeastern CT subforum to be created and to get more people on UP from this area of the state. If a thread is created for every major property acquisition and business or major cultural event related to the tribes there would be an unreal number of unneccessary threads.

It seems to be a no brainer to me, but given that I'm not really in charge around here I don't feel right about taking a forum and treating it like my own. Please leave any thoughts or comments regarding my idea.

You can create any threads you want related to development and the urban environment of the state. If need be, we can consider creating a seperate SE CT subforum.

Anyone who thinks the bar scene in Hartford sucks goes to bed too early.

LOL. Thanks beerbeer! Actually, I'd say anyone who think the bar scene in Hartford is great hasn't visited enough other cities!

Seriously, what have we got SIX total bars in the downtown core that don't close down and reopen every 6 mo's? They're already trying to sell off Up/On Rocks. And the Dickyard: tool cloning facility, c'mon now.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to this all change. I like City Steam and Poor House, but where's the variety and panache? Even New Haven understands you can't have every bar look like the other. In any case, to each his own!

Been to 860? It gets going late. Hell, there are more than half a dozen bars between Main, Church, Trumbull and Asylum. That's a two block area.

BTW, I lived in Chicago, Atanta and DC. I've been to virtually every major city (and lots of mid-majors) in the country. Bars are constantly opening and closing in every city. Nature of the business.

The bar/restaurant scene is definitely expanding, yeah you have the club area, but once you leave those bars you've got places like bin 228, Trumbull Kitchen, then the pratt street bars (the russell, sweet janes, vaughanns) with Joe Black's just opening (a definite must see, the place is amazing)... There at least 5 other restaurant/bars opening up in the next few months as well. I think Hartford has tremendous variety, you just have to know where to look..

I would agree with that. I also think that our crowd is different than in other cities like New Haven. The Hartford crowd is mainly young professionals, where the New Haven crowd is college students. Like I said we need to do it our own way and stay true to Hartford. We need to figure out what that crowd is really looking for and deliver. That Hartford crowd, in my experience, is young and fairly wealthy. Our bar scene needs to be the epitome of upscale. It can't just be fun and funky, although some more of that couldn't hurt. The fact is, a lot of the establishments are here, If more people took advantage of them more of the time, we would see even brisker growth in this area.

I haven't been in yet. It does look very cool though. I'll sadly admit that I'm one of the people that needs to be going out more often.

Is there a central listing of these bars? Seriously, this is exactly the problem Hartford has - lots cool places that nobody visiting (or new to) the city ever finds.

That's true. We are trying though. We really just need to keep building momentum. I mean I know about all of the bars, I just haven't been to them all. Probably a lot of people in that boat. Here you go though, these should help.

When is that huge Irish Pub on Pratt Street set to open?

It opened last Thursday.... It is bigger and better than I expected, it's unbelievable inside. They are still working on their function room and the patio outside. The name is Joe Black's...

Room 960 has done an unbelievable job of bringing big city clubbing and the world's best DJs to downtown Hartford to an upscale grown up crowd. Their upcoming lineup rivals that of any club in NYC and they are constantly mentioned in clubbing and DJ magazines. And their outdoor parties on Constitution Plaza are second to none.

Im actually having my graduation party at Hot Tomatos. My family was looking for a place to have my graduation party and I told them I wanted it in the city. Of course some of the downtown favorites can be quite pricy for a party and then my uncle suggested Hot Tomatos b/c he knows the manager. I had never eaten there and my parents had not eaten there since they moved to Union Station and I was amazed at how nice a restaurant both inside and outside it is. The restaurant was also packed with a nice probably suburban group of people as well

Who here is going to watch the Lieberman vs. Ned Lamont debate? Will a Lamont victory and a Lieberman independent run leave the door open for a Republican? How did a guy who runs nothing but attack ads get so much support, anyways? I thought that was something that turned voters off....

I actually met and spoke with Ned last night. He seemed like a really a good guy....

If Ned wins the primary, he's going to Washington. Joe and the Republican (what is his name again?) will split the conservative democratic and republican vote. Most CT dems will vote for Lamont. I saw a room full of eldery Dems, including ex mayor Perry, excited about Lamont and a new vocal Democratic voice.

Tossing out the 2000 Democratic VP canidate and one of the few Dems in the senate that actually gets listened to by republican majority is a politcially dumb move. Lamont will have zero seniority and put Connecticut firmly on the back burner in fights for funds and power in the senate.

Only in Connecticut could the voters be so politically tone deaf they throw out a powerful senator for a meaningless gesture on the war --which Lamont will be powerless to do anything about.

Truly amazing.
