North Charlotte Doppler Radar

Recommended Posts

So I was in North Charlotte the other day and I spot this doppler radar up on Mount Holly-Huntersville Rd near Beatties Ford Road. Does anyone know whose doppler radar it is, or if it's an old doppler? I know WCNC and WBTV have their doppler radars in Gaston county, and WSOC's doppler is viewable from Albemarle Road near I-485. The National Weather Service's closest doppler radar is Greer, SC. WCCB doesn't have a live doppler, and News14 i believe still uses WCNC's. So does anyone know who owns this doppler and if its still in operation. thanks :)

Wow, that must have been some weather kit you bought yourself!

Isnt that the doppler radar for the airport?

Haha, I am not sure, but I believe you are correct. If I remember it was installed after the upgrade that came from the crash of the USAir jet into a house somewhere on the west side. It was caused by wind shear.

Cool, that would make sense that it's the airports. Thanks for the Insight... Although it being monsoon's Weatherstation sounded more appealing.

Edit: To Verify, it IS in fact the airport's.

I looked it up on the Mecklenburg Co Tax Website; and the owner is:

UNITED STATES DEPT OF TRANS-- FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINIST. (parcel 03315110)
