2019 Charleston Mayoral Race

Chas City Council member Gary White announced yesterday that he will challenge Mayor John Tecklenburg in the 2019 mayoral race.

There could be 2 other council members running also.  I would imagine announcements will be made soon.

Also, College of Charleston employee Will Freeman has also announced he is running.

Tecklenburg is my least favorite  Charleston Mayor, then I've only known of one other in "Our Time" -the Great Joe Riley...    Gary White should give weak as water Tecklenburg a good fight when Charleston needs to keep growing.

I was hoping Gary White could have run a stronger campaign as I thought initially he had the best chance to defeat Tecklenburg.

My prediction is either Teck will capture 51% vote tomorrow or a run-off with City Councilman Mike Seekings with Teck winning the run-off.

Tecklenburg wins second term as mayor in run-off against Councilman Mike Seekings. 

I was impressed with Seekings' post election comments last evening.  He really came off as classy person.

Tecklenburg lost 49-51% in his bid for a 3rd term. He won within Charleston County but lost the Berkely part of the city.
