GE wants out of Connecticut.

Wow, the anti-business climate and constant rise of taxes is coming home to roost.  Hate to see it.  But let's face it, the voters deserve it.

Immelt claims the company's state taxes have increased five times since 2011 and the new budget would impose "significant and retroactive tax increases for businesses." GE—which employs more than 5,700 people in the state—started to consider the move "after a lot of thought and in the context of our ability to compete," he said.

 

"I believe we should pay our fair share and that all of us should give back to our communities. But, we can compare Connecticut with other states where small and large businesses have a better environment to thrive and compete," Immelt wrote.

Not exactly.  Corporations leave states because other states offer them free cash.  This is nothing new and it's not new to Connecticut or any other state.  GE has threatened to move to New York -- yeah, low taxes in New York?  Corporations move because of greed.  North Carolina can't give away enough of the public's resources to compete with South Carolina.  It doesn't matter if people can't read and they have no teeth.  Doesn't matter if the water and air is polluted because the CEO and shareholders are going to stay in Greenwich where people can read, have teeth and the air and water aren't polluted.

Corporations leave states for many reasons none which is FREE CASH. They leave for lower labor costs, lower taxes, lower energy costs, lower transportation costs and the like.  Corporations tend go where they can produce the most profit and the best products. It's not greed.  It good business practice.  Greed is excessive selfish desire, it implies ruthlessness and low morality.  GE is not greedy. It is a good employer and corporate citizen. It does what it believes is in the best interest of the company and its shareholders.You use the language of an anti-capitalist. 

 

Worse is your ignorance and prejudice about the citizens of South Carolina. Your spite and venom is very unbecoming.

 

It would be useless to have a conversation with you about this subject because you opinions are based in emotions and anger not rationality.  If you want to tone it back on discuss the business climates of Connecticut and South Carolina on the merits I would be glad to do so. But keep it civil.
