  1. What about the building at 2 Fountain Ave. that's for sale? From a square footage standpoint, it would appear to meet their goals and it's situated halfway between Spectrum and St. Mary's.
  2. Is anyone else having problems with the Site Plan links that I provided? I'm trying out a new file sharing/hosting service and want to make sure that it's working correctly.
  3. WOODTV's story is light on text, but has some nice renderings and an updated site plan. Officials announce plans for Metro Health Village Unfortunately their renderings/site plan are in PDF format, some of them overly large. I went ahead and converted them to images shown below. Entrance: Sample Elevations: The updated site plan is an improvement over the older version that I posted just before this. Some parking spaces have been replaced by additional buildings. Updated Site Plan Old Site Plan
  4. First, I think it's a given that you're going to see sidewalks to all locations. Of course, this doesn't automatically translate into "walkable". My guess is that the central corridor, once you get past the bridge and leading up to the hospital, should be reasonably walkable. Given the size of the entire development, there's no way the whole thing is going to be. The buildings on the perimeter, such as the Starbuck's on the corner, the office buildings on the north side, and the anticipated hotel/daycare on the south side, are not going to be very walkable. I used a sepia filter on the portion of the site plan (image below) that I feel will be reasonably walkable. (UPDATE: The site plan below is out of date and a newer one is available in the following post)
  5. Monelli's Pizza looking to build their second restaurant (first one is in Byron Center) across from Metro Health Village in Wyoming.
  6. A few updated pictures... Bridge Some landscaping on the south side:
  7. I think you probably are correct. The Planning Commission meeting minutes describe the location as south of Gezon Parkway and 300 feet west of Metro Way, which I believe would put it northeast of the hospital. It sounds pretty impressive, about 75% of the size of the St. Mary's southwest campus.
  8. Site plan was recently approved Gezon Medical Office, a three story 66000+sf medical office building, with groundbreaking expected later this fall.
  9. According to the GR Press, there's a job fair tomorrow (Friday 9/15) from 10am to noon at the Salvation Army at Fulton and Fuller. Link: Urban job fair draws more interest
  10. It'd be nice if I could find employment there. A 5 minute drive to work sounds real nice. Ironically, my wife just got a job at Spectrum.
  11. Not sure about cost being a big factor. If they did a couple parking ramps, that could free up space for additional business to locate there which would provide additional revenue to offset the costs. Imagine the parking lot you showed with all the construction stuff removed and the parking lot landscaped. In other words, it's your typical large parking lot although I imagine they'll probably keep it looking nicer than average. The view you showed is also from the south side. I don't know what they have planned for the southern part of the whole thing, aside from a daycare and the existing Frog Hollow playground. A hotel might be a possibility. So I don't know what kind of exposure it's going to get, except that people walking in the retail village part are not going to see that.
  12. I would agree that one or two parkings ramps would have been nice, if the freed up land could be put to better use. I wonder if they did not go with the parkings ramps because they did not want the view of the hospital obstructed. But when taking the entire village into account, replacing the two lots adjacent to the hospital would not make enough difference to the people who are complaining about the amount of asphalt, in my opinion. And I would also give them credit for at least putting the parking lots behind the buildings in the retail village portion of the site plan (the central west part, which is also featured in the video).
  13. It's funny, but I drive by there everyday to work and for some reason I thought it was still there. My wife even told me she didn't see a house there anymore, but I guess my mind just kept it there assuming that they were going to hold out for much longer. Regarding the deep hole, I think it is for a pond/small lake? That's what shows there on an outdated copy of the plan: http://www.thegrangergroup.com/downloads/MetroSiteplan.pdf
  14. Some updates that came out of the Planning Commission meeting this month.. Looks like the house on Byron Center that was basically surrounded by the Health Village, and stuck out like a sore thumb, has finally been acquired. Site plan for a two story office/apartment building (offices on the first floor, apartments on the second floor) has been approved with the goal of having some staff living in the apartments by next June. Construction of infrastructure for the retail village part of the development has begun.
  15. Looks like they've started construction on a building at the corner of Health Center and Byron Center. I believe that this is supposed to be a retail one with Starbuck's as one of the tenants.
  16. I like both those proposed routes to start of with; they both seem to be very logical choices.
  17. I agree. When I read that part of it, I was pretty impressed that they put that restriction in there. That's why I wasn't sure about the nature of the opposition. From what you're saying, it sounds like the objection is more from the city rather than township residents? Or is it more like two different opposition interests banding together?
  18. I wonder why some people were opposed to the PUD-5 ordinance. It requires construction of the commercial and non-commercial parts simultaneously. Seems like the people opposed just don't want to see any commercial development at all?
