  1. The little tid bit in the article didn't specificaly mention downtown suffolk. There is a plan in the works for a town center style development around Harborview. My guess is here.
  2. New airport? Is this the long ago proposed mega international airport that was to serve both HR and Richmond or part of the new inland terminal between 460 and 58? The new inland port is supposed to be modeled after Alliance Texas which has an airport (frieght only).
  3. I have the feeling this will be more suburban in nature. Though generaly close to downtown, it is seperated by the bypass and the lakes. With the new route 460 coming right through the middle of this propety, I would amagine more wharehouse/office park to facilitate the surge in port activity. The mixed use will probably be some retail at the new intersection of 58 and 460. I hear Home depot had been looking at Suffolk for sometime. There also was a retail project that was supossed to go in at Pitchkettle and 58. It included a Barns and Nobles but I think this was rejected. Maybe they'll come onboard this new development. Us out here in Western Tidewater may even learn to read.
  4. What do you get out of this? Is he talking about the Granby/Hilton/Wachovia ect... or something else. Hate to get my hopes up for a judgement call on words. Also I haven't figured out the quote tool yet. Sorry. I take that back about the quote tool.
  5. They're probably looking for a project managers for Granby tower. These jobs can come and go with the actual constuction. No need for 3 or 4 project guys standing around while they drive piles.
  6. Sorry, thought it once/still was. It's been awile since I flew.
  7. This seems to be our best option. Building a brand new megaport or rebuilding a closed Oceana would not be feasable with our current and near future demographics. 50 years from now maybe? ORF is a great regional airport will remain that way if they plan for the future now.
  8. Unfortunately Norfolk is not a hub. Untill a major carrier decides to use us as one we will be forced to use other hubs. It is to bad Raleigh, Charlotte, DC and Philly already have hubs and have the facilities to support them. This is just another reason why we are the eastcoasts largest cul-de-sac.
  9. I have been a member for over a year and am just now starting to post. I am however a lifetime member of the Hampton Roads community. I was born and raised in Norfolk but bought a house in Windsor. I love this area as a whole and have no plans on leaving. I am greatful for this forum and am very happy there are so many people interested in the development and promotion of this region. I have seen many changes in Southeast Va. in my 38 years and have been part of many of these. I have always worked in the constuction industry one way or another since I was 13. I have remodeled/refurbishied historic home in Ghent, helped build giant subdivisions all the way to NC, was an engineer on 150 West Main St in downtown Norfolk and am currently constructing aircraft carriers and submarines at Northrop Grumman. I am very knowledgable about many things in the tidewater area and hope to share my insite just as I enjoy receiving much information from many of you.
  10. This is my first post so I hope I get it right. Surveyors were on the old Obici hospital lot Saturday Feb. 24th. Looks like they were staking out. The planned multi-use development will be a great addition in the rebirth of central Suffolk and I am happy to see this moving foward.
