  1. Bill to preserve Bells Bend could derail May Town Center plans
  2. "we believe it would be very convenient for our customers" ...um, yeah... no kiddin. i guess one positive is that MTA service down murf rd would probably increase even more. In other news.. good to hear Rocketown wants to stay somewhere downtown http://www.wkrn.com/Global/story.asp?S=9798425
  3. Wow.. that does sound nice. Although I think the residential might be stretching it a little. If they somehow found a way to leave 7th open, it seems like they wouldnt be too far off. I'm very interested to see what happens to existing commercial tenants, and also now wondering what buildings we might have the potential to lose.
  4. New Convention Center to Move Businesses Businesses other than the Musicians HOF will be affected.. will they have assistance with relocating? WSMV says those affected include: Rocketown, Tennessee Electric Motor Company, and Nashville Autohaus
  5. I feel better knowing that 6th will be re-opened But will there be sidewalks as well within the tunnel? Of course, it would be great to have both 6th & 7th open.. but i can see how that would be troublesome. It is still a big box.. but at least its a big box that only really affects 1 street. The picture you paint regarding natural light sounds very nice. And the loading docks sound awesome!
  6. Are they not re-opening 6th Ave? I thought that had been announced as part of the plan. Maybe I was dreaming. I can't wait to see more detail, to really get an idea of what this will look like. The model obviously doesnt show details of materials used, and how they will actually look. I like the overall shape of it, with the wavy lines and what not. As others have said, it would be nice to have more of a 'wow factor'. What is the planned about ground height? Any idea? What was announced regarding activation of KVB? The model makes it look like a long brick wall, which would be unfortunate.
  7. What are the chances that we will actually see those things happen? I mean, anytime soon?
  8. Also pass along that we would like mass transit (LRT/BRT) incorporated into it, if possible
  9. There are actually a few units currently in the $200-300/sqft range around Church St, and at the Encore.. for 500-800 sq ft These are obviously nothing like Signature Tower would be.. but seem almost affordable. Probably slightly skewed by the economy, too.
  10. What plan are you referring to?
  11. ^ who's to say that abandoned real estate would necessarily be downtown real estate? it seems to me that the suburbs could just as likely be affected - such as antioch?
  12. Speaking of videos.. this one is pretty dang cool... ! I found it a while back, dont think its linked publicly on the website.. and im not sure if we're supposed to even have access to it.. but anyway. http://signaturetowernashville.com/flash/predators.swf I assume this is the video that is played at Predators games, that people have talked about??
  13. This is from the article posted earlier regarding streetcars in Cincinnati. I think this is important to keep in mind:
  14. Last week was the public 'charrette' for the new convention center... an article in the Tennessean today So far, i'm liking what the architects are saying... Also.. I was browsing through the Nashville MPO website.. their planned projects for the next 2-3 years.. and noticed Demonbreun is to be widened from 2 to 4 lanes.. from 10th ave to 1st ave, in conjunction with the new convention center. (TIP # 2008-12-029) Is there really room to add 2 more additional lanes of traffic? And i'm not sure what that will do to the pedestrian friendliness of the street... if there is such a thing right now.
  15. A Midtown Partnership has always seemed like a given to me.. I don't know why it hasn't happened already. Vanderbilt also needs to be a big part of this, IMO. Commuter rail is important, as are the bus lines.. but some sort of LRT, Street Car line, or whatever, is more important at this point I think... and should be #1 on the list.. without it, expansion of the commuter rail system seems impractical.
  16. I thought this was pretty funny, lol..
  17. Nice article.. one thing to note is how in Columbus, Ohio.. $12.5mil is planned to be contributed by OSU. Cincinnati also plans to obtain $30mil in private investment. Makes me wonder if Vanderbilt could throw in a decent portion of the investment? It would more than likely connect to the university anyway.
  18. Dont know if this has been posted before.. but I just saw it for the first time.. its a nice little photo tour of Nashville's Music City Star.. from MetroJacksonville.com
  19. ^ Nice post, nashvylle.. One thing though.. I'm not sure where people are getting the $8/ride ticket price? Last I heard, and according to the RTA website, its still $5/ride. Here is the Ticket & Schedule Info Also... just noticed they apparently now have a night train on Friday nights! Inbound at 6:50pm, outbound at 9:30pm And this sunday.. they are doing a special trip to the Wilson County Fair, according to the website
  20. All the more reason to build and utilize skysrapers and other urban projects that don't require so much gas guzzling!
  21. ^ I agree.. and also.. the proposal of this high speed rail line kindof shows that a less expensive option such as BRT would be better for the commuter line to M'boro at this time, IMO
