So this is apparently one of the sites that Costco might go...
-
I can see a Von Maur replacing the Sears at Crabtree. That'll help shake things up there.

Thank you for the update on that store!

SouthPark is the #1 most congested mall in the US on Black Friday, according to GPS maker TomTom. http://www.wsoctv.com/news/29824842/detail.html

Kmart just put a new sign up for that store, it seems like Kmart has staying power in Asheville.
-
Agreed, but there's only so many lower end stores that can close for higher end stores to open up. I think they need an expansion. Too bad there's really no where to expand, and I don't think they are even allowed to.
There's always somewhere to go. Upward!
lol,but yeah not allowed to

I believe the contiguous portion of the mall + Dick's, McCormick's and San Antonio's makes up the 1,621,000 square feet. The 1,794,000 comes in with the Eckerd Drug's, Crate and Barrel and Village at SouthPark lower level shopping plaza -- which Niblet mentioned.

Yeah Nibletodell has a point, it is not only people who lose their jobs that a recession affects. I know people who are making less having a job than they did on unemployment.

Thanks for the info!! I remember Waccamaw too!

Very interesting about the JC Penney coming to Windsor Square. I know they were the 3rd speculated anchor @ Bridges, Dillard's and Belk were committed to the project, i think Belk is still and Dillard's probably is
.... I'm guessing the JCP is coming to the old Burlington Coat Factory @ Windsor sq?

Southpoint was not developed by GGP actually, although it is owned by them now. Their [southpoint's] central location in the Triangle and proximity to high income and high education areas makes them successful, whereas Bridges at Mint Hill, from a population standpoint, is a little "out there." It could help spur development, but perhaps work better as a neighborhood or community center rather than a super-regional open-air mall. You are correct, it would be the first open-air lifestyle center of that sort in Charlotte (if you don't count things like Birkdale Village and Metropolitan Midtown to an extent). I just fear that the building of this could be overmalling us a little.

is there even a market for it
-
Ohhh it's a Healthy Home (Home Economist) Market... thats cool!
-
^Or keep Dick's as an anchor (like Northlake) and fill in with more stores between it and the two closest wings.
OR create a new wing connecting Macy's wing to where Dillard's wing Victoria's Secret is roughly and have an entirely new corridor
-
that amazes me^... i wish Belk SouthPark exterior still reflected 1970

I saw that yesterday, really exciting news!
-
I always thought they could (if they really wanted to) add a second level connecting the Belk-Dillard's wing.
-
If Metro Monsoon were still here... there'd be some people banned LOL... just sayin'
back on topic, guys

^I wouldn't mind seeing Sur La Table move to a non-mall location, such as Phillips Place, Foxcroft, Cotswold, or Metropolitan.
Yeah, I hope so too. I like their store in Friendly Center better because it's easier to get in and out of. Surprised they don't have a Triangle location, yet.
-
Sur La Table is an excellent store, I hope they relocate elsewhere in the mall or at least stay in CLT which I'm sure they will.

Thanks for the update Alma Pinnix.
Looks like the last remaining Borders bookstore in the Triad could be closing. Winston-Salem Borders could close this week. Thats good news for Barnes & Noble

Good space for a Trader Joe's?
-
I'd say Barnes & Noble or H&M would fit......there isn't a Barnes & Noble anywhere near Northlake...
Birkdale...
Metropolitan, Midtown Redevelopment

If Target expanded into the entire space below, that would be a massive 250,000+ square foot Target... I don't think there are any that are that big! LOL
