Exactly right. Douma's was next located on Fulton Street near Jefferson until online ordering of discounted art supplies basically put their retail and wholesale divisions out of business. Wonderful art supply store. I miss it.

Good thought. The way I understand it, for group entries, each member of the group still pays his/her 50 dollar entry fee. I think it's a good value - for others, not so much.

We talk a lot about who's doing the construction, financing, development of these various projects, but does anyone know who is doing all the IT work for them? I mean, how does it happen that all these buildings get wired for the various networking capabilities they need? It seems like there would be a lot of jobs in the IT/computer fields with all the building of these hospital/medical care facilities and that would be good for the area, but these companies/individuals seem so quiet. Could going in this direction, more companies, more individuals doing this sort of work in Michigan help the economy? Or doesn't it take much to get these buildings hooked up and going?

Nice sentiment but probably WAY too much competition betwixt and between all of the entities mentioned there, Dad. Not feasible to expect competing companies to have design staff in close proximity to 'the other guy'. Also, not likely public and private learning institutions can live together - again, too much competition for those tuition dollars. And, don't forget, Kendall has the current art museum building and not enough bucks to renovate that which explains in part why they have let go of their reputation for quality and let anyone in who knows which end of a pencil to use, or how to turn on a computer. This city, and the art departments of local colleges doesn't need to turn out more art graduates, they need to turn out more quality. Housing. Maybe housing.

Love the Meijer at Kazoo and 28th. Said it before, will again, it is my International Meijer. Plans are, when the old man goes, so goes this store. Been shopping there long enough to know that many of the check out people have been there for years and years and I enjoy that kind of familiarity. Love hearing all the languages spoken there on a busy Saturday morning. Enjoy being in the midst of so many shoppers who may look and speak differently than I do, doing exactly what I'm doing - getting groceries and supplies - we are all human. I should have said *rumors* are...

I hopped that train in the early 60's - it was a little jerky, but the scariest part was being that far off the ground when you're 2 1/2' tall!

The Harris Building on S. Division

The GRPD is now in the old Herpolscheimers building. Wurzburgs was the department store now gone. Steketees occupied the building where River Bank books and Blue Cross is. Visiting all three before Christmas in the early 60's was a treat beyond words for a kid.
