I really thought we would have a casino here by the time I was old enough to gamble. I still got 3 1/2 years but I dont see a casino in sight. Then again I think I should save up money before I ever gamble a dollar off...

If you're open to friendly advice.........don't bet your money at a casino...........anywhere........ever.

Update on the Daniel Corp.'s new apartments in 4th Ward at Graham and 7th.  As   @QCxpat noted construction has begun and he found out that there was a spring discovered under the oldest building that was spewing water.    That will have to be dealt with but they seem to be readying some of the buildings for demo.  We need more apartments to be built uptown and quite honestly I dont care at this point if they are Southend style mid rises.

I think this is a nice infill project and will add to density and urban neighborhood.

Here are some renderings of the new Daniel Corp.  from a Biz Journal article for their new 4th Ward apartments.

""Daniel Corp. is planning a 241-unit, seven-story building that will offer studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments. The property will include an elevated pool deck, coworking space, state-of-the-art fitness studio, two-story resident social space, conditioned bike storage and repair room, resident-only market on site, and secured and covered parking.""

It is better than what is there now. Glad they are incorporating the facade or reconstruction of the facade. I think it looks very good.

  4. If Norfolk wants to keep at least the current level of programming at Scope they need to get this done and not just sit on it. I'd even be for more modern amenities at the expense of no additional seating. A new arena is not going to be built so put some money into Scope and Chrysler already.

I did find an old blog post from 2013 that outlined what the city wanted to do during a planned renovation. This is something I think needs to happen:

    • A new expanded glass concourse extending to the legs of the building that would wrap around the circumference of the structure. This would allow for more space and bring much better food and beverage options.

I think expanding the concourse gives the architects more leeway to expand the bowl and add a few more seats. They should aim for at least 13,000-14,000.

Now is the city's chance to do something special with Scope, Chrysler Hall and the plaza. The entire complex could be re-made to be truly special. That plaza needs to be a lush, green gathering spot downtown. So much potential. I love the idea of glass curtain walls on the Scope and a new glass enclosed entrance/lobby into Chrysler Hall. But, whatever is done please please please clean the damn concrete and budget money to give those buildings an annual cleaning.

Not to complicate things further but that rendering is 40 floors, and they announced 45.

Edit: Not to COMPLICATE IT MORE  but I found the approved planning document that called the residential tower at 417 and the Office Tower at 535, and we all know that's definitely not right, considering the renderings.

One would hope the documents Planning/Permitting/Inspections uses is accurate since zoning and building code issues could vary based on the actual/real building height(s). I would think building elevations used for permit issuance would be public record, no?
