  1. Construction has begun on the new engine plant for International (Navistar) at the airport. The new engines, the largest in the MaxxForce family of commercial-truck diesel engines, will be built at a new assembly plant in Huntsville. The investment cost is not being disclosed. More than 175 employees are expected to work at the new facility. Full production at Huntsville will begin in spring 2008. Initial engines will be partially assembled in Germany and finished and trimmed in Huntsville and will be available beginning in fall 2007.
  2. the new 219' ATC tower is nearing completion. It is quite striking when seen from I-565 especially when glancing over to 96' existing tower. It should be complete by June. In addition the new taxiway" L" will also be completed this summer. The airport will now be able to handle all aircraft in use or future use including a fully loaded mammoth Airbus 380 Freighter, if it is ever built. Currently Airbus is focusing on the passenger version. The 747-8 freighter will be no problem either, Cargo Lux which will use this freighter most likely on it's Hong Kong/HSV flights.
  3. exactly, if they can just start moving dirt it will be a strong signal to other developers that it's going to happen.
  4. construction set to begin on second deck which will look like the existing one
  5. Some things being discussed for the center http://www.al.com/news/huntsvilletimes/ind....xml&coll=1 Evans said VBC improvements are timely with the recent rejuvenation of downtown Huntsville. "Downtown Huntsville is on a big upswing," he said. "This complex needs to be updated in ways that are consistent with what is happening downtown." agreed
  6. By Jay Boehmer APRIL 02, 2007 -- Registered Traveler program provider FLO Alliance last week detailed a business model that focuses on joint marketing programs and additional traveler benefits beyond the core expedited airport security lane offering. The alliance, which includes Saflink, Microsoft and Johnson Controls, last month signed Huntsville, Ala., International Airport, as its first airport partner. Meanwhile, other entrants are making their way toward the Registered Traveler space, as more airports make way to open lanes. http://www.btnmag.com/businesstravelnews/h...t_id=1003565619
  7. ah yes many a prom date ate at the Rib Cellar. The hotel is a Sheraton 4 Points, now the restaurant is part of the Sheraton. Now the hip place is Ruth's Chris downtown. Greenville is a great city and Huntsville looks to it (among others) for ideas and inspiration.
  8. Looks like the city is getting serious about doing work on this facility. This is probably 2-4 years out, but soon 4 hotels will circle the facility. Some have suggested that Coca Cola relocate their plant, and the VBC expand across Clinton. This would tie in well with the Riverwalk project and the soon to be removed portion of the Searcy housing project. "Mayor Loretta Spencer said VBC officials planned to meet with her administration in a week or so to press their case for an additional $10 million. "It needs $40 million. It's an old building," said Spencer, who was on the VBC board when the facility opened in March 1975. "We need to do a lot of refurbishment and expansion. I would hope a lot will be spent to add seating to the arena." http://www.al.com/news/huntsvilletimes/ind....xml&coll=1
  9. Airport e-mail program has new feature Huntsville International Airport
  10. Have you been to Austin? several possibilities, it's the Capital of Texas, The University of Texas, a large high tech base. May not answer the question but it's a neat place with horrible traffic.
  11. Here's a pic, I like the large doors that open out onto the sidewalk
  12. By JOHN PECKTimes Staff Writer [email protected] A push is on for a new river port just south of Huntsville International Airport that would receive barge shipments of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel and possibly alternative fuel sources such as ethanol. The plan would require a 200-foot-wide barge canal through a portion of Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge to an unloading dock. The petroleum would be piped from there to the airport and to a proposed tank farm somewhere near interstates 565 and 65, according to a document obtained by The Times. http://www.al.com/news/huntsvilletimes/ind....xml&coll=1
  13. That project is scheduled very soon, it will include new trees , benches, landscaping etc. The current bricks are uneven, broken and dangerous in some places. There could be some liability issues, not sure but if done correctly will be better.
  14. sounds very positive and exciting. The Governor has promised the state will help as well as soon as everyone comes together. Looks like that may be happening.
  15. Riley to attend Verizon groundbreaking Gov. Bob Riley will speak at the groundbreaking ceremony for Verizon Wireless
  16. that's good, I would guess in the Jones Valley area if it plans to open soon. But right now anywhere is possible.
  17. The Birmingham News reported that among three European plants interested in the state is a railcar company looking at North Alabama. A Limestone and Morgan County delegation also went to Austria in an attempt to attract a manufacturing facility that would bring 3,000 jobs to Limestone County, Athens Mayor Dan Williams has said. The site is near Alabama 20 and the Limestone-Morgan county line. This would be near the Belle Mina community just outside the HSV city limits at the present time.
  18. Oh yeah, this has been a 25 year project. Some airports think they can just do this overnight. HSV is probably the best airport it's size in the country. It can and will be able to handle tremendous growth. Land is being purchased in the neighboring county for a third parallel runway. The airport is in the city limits handles all of it's business without taxing the citizens. In the cargo world HSV is one of the patterns to follow. Glad you had a good time.
  19. If you come to HSV, hope you enjoy your visit, alot of things going on, new control tower construction, various stages of terminal expansion/renovation. Not sure if they have started the new parking garage yet, but there should be a couple of 747's around at the Intermodal Center usually in the evening. Take the drive around the end of the 12,000 + foot runway and you feel as if there is no airport around. United is back with nonstops to Denver. If your real lucky you might catch military or NASA aircraft as they sometimes use HSV instead of the Redstone airfield(several miles east of the airport) which lately has seen alot of C-5 Galaxy landings. The Russian cargo plane has landed there as well. Excellent photo's!
