  1. sweet, I guess that's the vacant lot by the old Health Dept building, a parking garage is also planned for that block I think. That is also on the top of that hill so it will have a bit of prominence. I wonder how this is impacted bt the vague height limit or will this be a variance. Looking at the rendering it would be nice if there was more of a setback from the street.
  2. http://www.al.com/business/huntsvilletimes....xml&coll=1 "As for moving forward, Steve Maples says there's a planned $12 million to $16 million expansion of the VBC in 2008 and also an increased demand with the BRAC personnel coming in. "We're real close to an arena renovations project," Maples said. "It will happen; we'll make a decision in the next 60 days about what to do. "We've got a lot of work and prioritizing to do. We're also getting ready to spend some of the $4 million (from a tax increment finance district) the city has given us. We're hiring a consultant in building maintenance to evaluate the facility and give us some feedback on how best to spend the money." Maples said the VBC is awaiting City Council approval on the consultant and will then move forward with those plans. "

The Park Tower building, just across the street from the Madison County Courthouse, sold recently, and the new owners have some high hopes. The company is now in the works to turn a downtown building into a high rise of living, office and retail space. Standing some nine stories high, smack dab in the center of downtown Huntsville, it's prime real estate. It's 200 Park Tower He explains his company's hope of creating an atmosphere where residential life meets downtown living -- all in an effort to help revitalize the City of Huntsville, "To follow the Mayor's lead, in Huntsville being a top ten green city we're going to green up the building if you will." I guess this is your question in the Huntsville Times, http://blog.al.com/askus/ The development is in the Huntsville City Limits as is Hampton Cove which is not a separate town as they would lead people to believe. Owens Cross Roads postal mark though I suppose. "Q. There is site preparation being made on the west side of Taylor Road at the Sutton Road intersection. In the last few days there has been a Huntsville Hospital sign on the site. What type of facility is Huntsville Hospital putting on this location? A. Huntsville Hospital spokesman Burr Ingram said the hospital recently bought five acres at Taylor and Sutton roads, near the Hampton Cove Wal-Mart, for a medical park. The development plan is not finished, but Ingram said the project would likely include doctors' offices and diagnostic services similar to those at the Medical Mall on Governors Drive. "We believe this is an opportunity to bring health-care services to a fast-growing area of our community," Ingram said Thursday. "We're excited about it and hope to bring services there as quick as possible."

  16. From the Florence Times Daily, this is ALDOT in a nutshell, click on the link for the entire story. http://www.timesdaily.com/article/20070819.../708190360/1011 "It's been nearly a quarter of a century since the first piece of dirt was turned. Now, the expansion of Alabama 157 from two to four lanes has officially ended without fanfare and with disbelief from people who have joked that they would never live to drive on it. "I still don't believe it; it's a miracle," Lauderdale County resident Jason Tyler said, trying to keep from laughing. "Seriously. I always thought this day would never come." In the early 1980s, widening Alabama 157 seemed to have merit. The road was to give motorists - and 18-wheelers that move products across the country - easier and safer access from the Shoals to Interstate 65 in Cullman. Turning Alabama 157 into a four-lane highway also was to stimulate economic development in northwest Alabama, which had long been told it could not compete for big industrial projects because it lacked an interstate or easy access to one. Getting the 56-mile project done has been far from simple, though. Despite promises from candidate after candidate who stumped the Shoals looking for votes, progress has been slow and frustrating for area residents. Now, nearly 25 years and $161 million later, Alabama 157 is four lanes from Muscle Shoals to the interstate exchange in Cullman."

  23. Don't believe it, just another hack league that will swindle fans of money then fold up. Mostly for ex bammers who couldn't make it in the NFL. But hey if Birmingham wants to go down this road AGAIN then at least get this "league" to pay for renovations at Legion Field. Otherwise keep moving, Jackson maybe? http://blog.al.com/trackingtigers/2007/07/...ry_wont_be.html CEO Marcus Katz. Here's what he wrote: We expect that there may be some Auburn players that would play for our independent team named Alabama, but, quite frankly, we expect that the Auburn players, if given the chance, would much prefer to play against any team named Alabama. Our research shows that the fans want teams hosted by both the University of Alabama and Auburn University. And the same thing is true in other situations such as Florida and Florida State. The League would be very interested in sitting down this week or anytime in the future with Auburn University officials to discuss their hosting an AAFL team in '08. (idiot, Auburn is not interested in having another team play at Jordan Hare Stadium)
