I'm intrigued by the promotion of luxury condo units at the same property expo as affordable-housing units. Who are the investors in the affordable housing units? Casino owners, who buy them for their employees? If the properties were in my area (metropolitan Washington, DC), the prices for townhomes and "attached villas" quoted - - $109,000 to $114,000 - - would cause a stampede.

Today's New York Times has a piece on the proposed FEMA flood maps and the response of some Mississippi Gulf Coast homeowners and city officials. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/12/national...47be627&ei=5070

The local Biloxi paper has a piece on private efforts to coordinate rebuilding on the Mississippi coast: http://www.sunherald.com/mld/sunherald/12887683.htm. The design coordinator is Duany, and the chairman, Jim Barksdale, runs the local newspaper. This effort is funded by the Knight Foundation (of Knight-Ridder papers). Nevertheless, the list of architects and urban planners is impressive and promising. Why do I have to go to "Louisiana" to find any discussion of Mississippi???
