  1. So the ARB gushes over the architecture of the new SED plan after gutting the original plan and making it look as  generic as possible? Simply amazing how there was absolutely no push back. Orlando will always be a $hit town as long as we have these hacks in office. Tell me they are not either stupid, blind or in bed with BB architects.

i thing they managed to do the impossible with this new color scheme. Which is to make our tallest building look short and fat. The crown disappears into the cloudy sky on most days and actually makes the building appear shorter. Only in this town... Should have been darker to stand out imo.

I guess what's old is new again if you wait long enough 😄

Curious what you think of the Waverly's color palette? IMO the old art deco pastels adds a bit of uniqueness to an otherwise uniform/corporate landscape. I can stomach it if tastefully done right. The rendering could use a little reworking.

I actually dont mind the waverly's color palette because like you said the art deco lends itself to a more fun color palette. This on the other hand IMO looks dated and out of place.

Doesn't seem like that corner gets enough sunlight for real grass.

Given the location, I think some nice pavers would be more fitting.

And replace that Gawd awful mural, FPS!!!

That "mural" is probably one of the worst attempts at street art / mural i have ever seen.

    teal? is it 1988 again?

  5. NOLA has an impressive skyline? I would argue that Nashville has a more impressive skyline than NOLA  from what i remember but I have been there in 20 years . LOL

Downtown Miami is pretty far away from the expressway but still in your face just due to the sheer size and height.

i would say the dolphin expressway and the McCarthur Causway have a much closer vantage point for DT Miami

There was also a huge music festival this weekend that likely contributed to a larger number of pedestrians. All hotels were at capacity this weekend downtown.

And to me, that is key.  DTO needs tourists to support it.

Agreed! 100% But if you were visiting from out of town. What do you do DT?  Where do you go? What is there to see exactly. Honest questions

All that means is that Florida has some pretty good downtowns. For a city of its size, Orlando's downtown is pretty similar to cities in its weight class. The difference is older, more established cities have much larger downtowns but the vibrancy and walkability is similar or better in some cases. I'd take DTO over the downtowns of Sacramento, St. Louis and San Antonio. Charlotte, Kansas City, and Portland are bigger, better, or have light rail but are not necessarily more vibrant or walkable. I think DTO is in a pretty good place. Just because other cities in Florida are improving faster doesn't mean DTO is declining.

With all due respect, have you walked around DTO lately? The  CBD is a ghost town, CV is a ghost town and south eola is meh ok

And now we can only expect 4 more years of this because Buddy cakewalked into it again with zero opposing candidates.

TBH, I'm not so sure there is anything that anyone in City Hall can do.

They can only offer so much in the way of tax incentives to entice businesses, but if they don't want to come to DTO, there's not a whole lot that can be done. As I used to say to spenser occasionally, there's no magic wand. There's just something(s) about the place that doesn't meet their requirements. We've speculated about it here for years and years, but nobody has ever pinpointed precisely what it is that keeps away the kind of businesses we'd like to see open up there.  I can only guess that there is a complex web of intertwined circumstances, economic, geographic, demographic, etc, etc, that's keeping our city center in the minor leagues.

All I would say from my totally unqualified vantage point is, don't sweat it. Don't be impatient. Orlando traditionally never was a big city and only became what it is today because of theme parks. I don't think we can realistically expect too much at least for the time being.

100% agree. That exactly what i was saying before. It is what it is and it likely wont change for the time being. If I want more than I should look elsewhere.  Yet i was told thats dumb of me. I was told its dumb to move because skyscrapers arent being built as if the height of a building is the measuring stick for my happiness. There are many cities that dont have height but are extraordinary. Paris, London, D.C. Boston, hell even Greenville SC has more life and vibrancy than DTO without having height. My gripe and frustration is DTO is an afterthought here and all the energy is put forth in the suburbs. Not my cup of tea, so Im looking elsewhere. Thats it.

as far as city hall...if they cant then who can. If they cant, this place is 100% doomed.  Problem is the people in charge are stale and its just accepted as normal. Its not.

My question is, what do you mean by forward movement?

How and in which areas or ways are we not moving forward that we should be?

    What would moving forward encompass?

DTO is dying. People can make excuses about Covid or any other excuse for it but the truth is Covid affected everyone...yet other cities still managed to grow, develop and prosper instead of wither away. There is no life, no buzz, no movement, no vibrancy. A few generic apartments have been built but that's it.  There is a reason EVERY single project gets scaled down to a shell of its self or doesn't see the light of day.  There is zero appeal to want to spend any time there. DTO is on life support and no one  in charge seems to care.

They are finally repainting the wall in the Little Old Lady Boondoggle Park (formerly known as 7-Eleven). Still a colossal waste of money for a not-so-hidden agenda of the club next door.

I mean, that's a bit different. Look what thread we are in: Zoi House. I'm not saying the person I replied to feels this exact way, but considering moving because high rises and skyscrapers have fallen through is incredibly shortsighted and idiotic imo.

this has ZERO to do with some f$ckn dead condo building regardless of what thread its written in. Its incredibly frustrating the lack of forward movement in this town. The apathy from even the politicians makes me want to rip my hair out. But I have come to the realization that is all Orlando can give and wants be in the forseeable future. I want more. instead of wishing this place changes till Im blue in the face... why not just move somewhere that already checks those boxes.

  12. Really? Would you constantly want to feel disappointed by your surroundings? Knowing its not going to get any better? Id rather be in a place that intrigues me, captivates, motivates and inspires me, not underwhelms me... but that's just my .02

  13. i was born and raised here... but I am so frustrated with this city's lack of foresight and progression that I am actively looking where else I can move to. I can't take it anymore. It's just one disappointment after another. There is no forward momentum in this town.

I think Pulse and Holocaust museums happen, but everything in Orlando takes 10 years to begin construction. In Miami, they would've been working on expansions for each museum by now.

welp...add the Pulse museum to the Orlando  cemetery. Geezus there is no money in this town to get projects off the ground....meanwhile Miami is swimming in billion  dollar projects.
