  1. I could definitely see Boston and Las Vegas next. I can't wait to see the first international flight. I could definitely see one to Mexico City or Canada in the future. I think China or London are still a long ways away.

I think International flights (Canada & Mexico) are atleast 10 years off if that. I still can't ever see places like London adding a nonstop flight to XNA. Seems its cheaper to do it in much bigger cities that have larger infastrucutres, hub structuring, long runways, etc.

I still can't believe that Raleigh Durham is going to be added. AA Officials better be making sure to get travelers from Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Columbus, etc to book this flight. I guess I can see Raleigh acting as a small hub for XNA to channel east coast traffic. Still seems really odd though to have Raleigh as a city.

    XNA Destinations: 19 Cities

    Atlanta

    Charlotte

    Chicago O'Hare

    Cincinnati

    Dallas/Ft. Worth

    Denver

    Detroit

    Houston

    Los Angeles

    Memphis

    Miami (Started This Year)

    Minneapolis/St. Paul

    New York Laguardia

    Newark

    Orlando (Started June 6th)

    Raleigh-Durham (Starts Nov.

    St. Lake City

    St. Louis

    Washington D.C. (Starts Sept. 9th)

    Little Rock National: 19 Cities

    Atlanta

    Baltimore/Washington D.C.

    Charlotte

    Chicago - O'Hare, Midway

    Cincinnati

    Dallas Ft. Worth, Love

    Denver

    Detroit

    Houston Intercontinental, Hobby

    Kansas City

    Las Vegas

    Memphis

    Minneapolis/St. Paul

    Newark

    Orlando

    Phoenix

    Salt Lake City

    St. Louis

    Washington D.C. Dulles

Both LIT and XNA serve 19 Cities, but LIT still serves more airports since Southwest flies to Hobby, Love Field, and Midway.

  2. Talked to the head American Airlines guy at XNA today about future flights:

Raleigh/Durham will be next, if everything goes to plan.

And "most likely" Boston or Las Vegas will be after that.

I was very surprised today to see how many people flyout out of XNA with Boston as there final destination.

I can see both of those added in time. It would be extremly weird to see them on American (At least Las Vegas). Phoenix and Philadelphia are both cities desperately needed at XNA as well.

  3. Why? You can't connect to anywhere from there. Unless you are going to London-Gatwick, there really is no reason for RDU to be on their radar. Unless it's a subsidized flight by Wal-Mart.

Exactly my thoughts. There's no huge Wal-Mart operations or Vendor operations in RDU that I know of. Raleigh will be an extremly unpopular flight. We don't want another Cleveland at XNA!!

  4. Yes, it is quite true that when a low-cost carrier enters the market, total boardings rise signfiicantly because it can appeal to a broader market. I just can't see that this won't affect other carriers, particularly American since they are so entrenched. But even business traffic is susceptible to low-cost carriers...you'd be surprised how many business travelers fly the "orange bird"...they're looking to save money too!

Not Wal-Mart my friend. Wal-Mart stays away from most low cost carriers (suprisingly). American is the choice for WM and Delta is usually second.

  5. I have to respectfully disagree. You can't have a competing airline come in serving the same markets tapping a finite (albeit growing) passenger base, all while charging $200 less, and there be no changes. Absolutely you will lose service! You can't just lower the ticket price without giving something up. You will likely lose service points, not to mention equipment. It would be a good bet that you could kiss mainline service goodbye at a minimum.

American got hammered in LR by a relentless onslaught of service by SWA serving the same markets of DFW, Chicago and St. Louis. The same would happen in XNA. By the way, if (when) a low-fare carrier serves XNA, I agree it would impact Tulsa tremendously. Little Rock? Not so much.

You'd be suprised at the number of people that drive to Little Rock for a flight on Southwest from XNA. I admit most go to Tulsa but Little Rock isn't completely left out. Besides I doubt XNA would loose any flights if a low cost air carrier came into the market since XNA is mainly a business airport at the moment. A low cost carrier would appeal to leisure travelers.

  6. Great announcement yesterday. Daisy BB Guns will now be moving their manufacturing facility from Neosho to Rogers!! The manufacturing center will hire an additional 70 jobs for the market. Shame they had to take it from Neosho since they're desperately trying to become part of the NWA metro.

  7. This isn't really a development item- but has anyone else been to downtown Fayetteville right around the EJ Ball building after dark lately? There is some type of ventilation fan that is making a screeching noise that can be heard for blocks. I think is atop the EJ Ball building. Where ever it is it is very annoying and I bet guests at the Cosmopolitan Hotel can hear it in their rooms. It can be heard during the day but with all the noise around it doesn't stand out like at night. If anyone has a solution or a contact to let the owners know the problem I think it would be most welcome. :)

Haven't they been doing interior work on EJ Ball? I would try contacting the city adminstration about that one.

  8. That is a good point. I thought about that, but I wasn't sure that would make a $200 difference.

If/When XNA lands a low cost carrier, how many flights do you think we'll lose offered by American?

None. A low cost carrier would be taking traffic away from places like Tulsa and Little Rock that already have low fare airlines in place. American would not loose any flights but would lower their costs to compete with this low fare airline and tap into this new market.

  9. Because they have the attitude that if you don't like it you can just drive yourself to Little Rock or Tulsa and it wouldn't bother them one little bit. Either way American Airlines will get their money.

Remember that the airport isn't that old and the airlines have to pay off their FBO fees. I'm sure prices will decline over the years. I remember a few years back when a round trip ticket on US Airways to Charlotte was over a $1,000 but is now only about $400.

  10. Could someone please explain why a roundtrip ticket through American Airlines from LIT to DFW is $200 cheaper than an American Airlines ticket from XNA to DFW?

I know they can jack prices at XNA because of the business and everything, but 200 bucks?!?!?!?

One reason is that there isn't a low fare airline to help bring down prices of other airlines. Little rock has two (Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines) while XNA has none.
