  1. With this addition and the new Medical Arts center at Port Warwick, Newport News is competing with the EMS, Norfolk Sentara, Childrens Hospital of the Kings Daughters complex. Still has a long way to go since that complex has expanded a lot also. I think there will be a pre-med program offered at CNU in the future, in cunjunction with Riverside Hospital.

This has not been build yet, but is underway. Here's a little tidbit of info from an article:

Central Tower. This building will include the addition of approximately 320,622 square feet of space above the new Emergency/Trauma Center. A new operating suite, a day surgery unit, new critical care units, a new mother/baby unit, additional private rooms and easier access to outpatient services are all part of this next phase of Riverside's expansion.

Traffic and Parking. The construction of a new 600 space parking structure, pedestrian sidewalks and new access roads will make it easier and more convenient to come to Riverside Regional Medical Center, whether you're seeking treatment or visiting a loved one.

  3. In case anybody missed it. Christopher Newport University unveiled it's new Ferguson Center.  Looks pretty impressive to me, but then what would a simpleton like me know about the Arts.  Anyhow, read the story from the Daily Press then check out their slide show. B)

    Great job C.N.U.!

I really like the pix. Thanx! CNU is rivaling ODU, without a doubt. And, I'm an ODU alumnist. I think the Ferguson Center is just as nice as the Ted Constant Convocation Center. They have totally different looks though.

  4. I don't have a problem with it being 18 stories but was just hoping it would have crossed that boundry and pushed the other developments even more thats all, you know what i mean

I know what ya mean, only 2 more floors. Maybe they'll add a couple floors if there is a high demand for units.

I think downtown Newport News, right on the James is a perfect location for a skyline, ideal waterfront and not near an airport. One day, I hope!

  5. Lets hope the area becomes urban. It would be a great drive coming from Willamsburg to all the way through the beach for people to see. Lets go 757

I agree Rusthebuss, the drive from Va Beach to Newport News gets pretty bland after the Hampton Power Plant development. After the 18 story condominium is built in City Center, Newport News will have the tallest tower along I-64.

  6. I'm excited about this City Center project too.

If they cut down the trees along I-64 in this region would the City Center area be visible to passers-by?

During the winter, after the trees lose their leaves, I can see the development going on at City Center from I-64. I recently drove through the development area. Adjacet to the Mariott Hotel construction, there is an architectural rendering of an 18 story condominium, The Meridian, going up. Now that's a DT Norfolk height quality! Land has already been slated for it. It's actually pretty striking. You will, without a doubt, be able to see it from the interstate, trees or no trees. Let's try to keep those trees for a future city park.
