  1. lol--here's the link to the project and a Mariner's Museum project. They are both cool! http://www.jamesriverarchitects.com/port.html If you could get those pix in the forum, that would be great Ruth!
  2. Here's some more information on it: "James River Architects has been selected to provide architectural services for the new recreation center planned for the north end area of Newport News. The project will include a large gymnasium component consisting of three full-size gyms, an indoor track and several multipurpose rooms, some that will accommodate up to 500 people and some that are sized for dance or fitness classes. The natatorium will include an indoor pool of approximately 50 x 25 meters for use by seniors, schools and the general public. The pool will be used for lap swimming, water aerobics, swim classes and therapeutic recreation programs, as well as a water playground."
  3. Here's the Stoney Run Rec Center that has been proposed for Newport Nerws in the Denbigh area!
  4. YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO TO DUBAI TO SEE OUT OF CONTROL CONSTRUCTION. CHECK THESE LINKS OUT ON MIAMI, LAS VEGAS AND CHICAGO! http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/bu/sk/li/?...bt=2&ht=2&sro=1 http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/bu/sk/li/?...bt=2&ht=2&sro=1 http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/ci/bu/sk/?id=101030
  5. I think airport expansion is reason for government to acquire private land. Do yall have an info on that?
  6. Sorry, but we cannot post full articles on the site. You may repost a link to this article, and possibly a small quote or caption with it, but not the full thing.
  7. It's a new American cuisine restaurant. Gourmet food and food not so gourmet. It has awesome outdoor seating in the heart of Styron Square, and above it are residential balconies garnished with ivy and outdoor patio wear. It is normally busy on weekends. Cowboy Sids and Schleshingers or whatever are kinda pricey. Then there is a Tapas restaurant there also with late-night music and a club/bar atmosphere. Check it out. I hear a food market is on its way to Port Warwick with outdoor stands. Fresh fruit and flowers a short walk from ones home. Port Warwick will have a lot to offer cityfolk looking to move to Hampton Roads especially with talks of light rail and a pedestrian-friendly roundabout between it and City Center.
  8. Ok, Hecht's is going to become a MAcy's, not Dillard's, my bad. Here's the article. But, you have to be a registered user to access it. www.dailypress.com/business/local/dp-58377sy0jul29,0,6350009. story?coll=dp-entertainment-front&track That's because they probably couldnt fit on the page.
  9. No, Macy's didnt scale down, they expanded their empire. Maybe it is Hecht's, not Dillards. Not sure Vdogg. Whichever is attached to Coliseum.
  10. I can see it now... Thanksgiving Day parade down Coliseum dr. Huge floats and crowds. Ok, I just brought my head out of the clouds
  11. Macy's bought Dillards. Coliseum has a Dillards. Supposedly, all Dillard's, that Macy's decides to keep open, will turn into Macy's.
  12. lol--That is sooo true. But, I heard Coliseum is getting a Macy's. That alone is an attraction.
  13. The roundabout is sooo cool! MAybe they'll place a sculpture/fountain in the center of it. The roundabout will totally draw pedestrian traffic.
  14. I think Granby Tower may spawn a whole other "downtown." Seperate from business, kinda like East and West Manhattan. Manhattan has a recreational downtown and a business district downtown. Granby Tower may unintentionally create this with Residential Towers, more life. Every big city has a business and then a residential downtown.
  15. Those plots of land are what I rely on for building high. That size building, I cant even call it a tower, should be on the opposite side of Brambleton from Downtown.
  16. Im totally with you on that one Vdogg! They need go on the Adkins Diet!
  17. Thats like building a 30 story tower in Wall Street.
  18. That ugly library. A downtown library should be made of heavy granite and should be a local landmark, not a black box.
  19. I'll be very disappointed if they put a pityful 12 story building there. That's a 40 story tower quality plot of land. I hope they do not depreciate downtown with a 12 story box in the business district. It better make a huge statement if only 12 stories.
  20. It would be great if we could get a pic of the new Addition to Pactrick Henry Mall. It looks great from 64! How many times can they add to that mall. This is the second face lift and addition. Pactrick Henry is giving Lynhaven a run for it's money.
  21. [ 1. Port Warwick Melville building (recently competed) There's actually some more that I can't find information on ... A development in Denbigh known as the Villages at Stony Run and a future development for Endview to be the nucleus of a wider "Lee Hall Village". Stay tuned!!
