  1. Here are some cellphone pics (sorry for the crappy quality) from around early july, along route 28 around Dulles of all the office construction that has sprung up in the past year or so, and some pics of the Dulles Station development, which is turning out much better than i expected! I really don't like this one though, the new Long & Foster headquarters, it's like a ridiculously oversized colonial plantation building...
  2. Here is a pic of the 2nd tower in the Park Crest development i got off the website: And here's a link to the Tysons Future project website, i really hope the problems with the silver line will be solved, so a lot more projects like this will start going up! http://www.tysonsfuture.com/index-2.html
  3. Does anyone hav info on that one tysons scraper that was supposed to break ground, i cant remember the name of it, it was the next in line in the tysons center development....
  4. This one is very nice imo, a good blend of modern and traditional, and its nice to see some diversity in Tysons development! http://www.oneparkcrest.com/
  5. That's really good news that central place got approved, but they still have to clear the FAA, right? Ive been tracking the progress of National Gateway, and their website is pretty much complete chaos when it comes to renderings and what the actual current designs are...Anyone know which design is the most current? Heres the website: http://www.nationalgatewayarlington.com/ I really hope the design on the home page is the final one! Also, a new office building is u/c in shirlington, Randolph Square. I think its ok, i would like something less art-deco-y, but its modern enough for me! http://www.monumentrealty.com/properties/r...ilding.asp?id=2
  6. ^That kinda sucks, i hoped it was maybe a community center or a public building of some kind, but the layout of the way they are landscaping it does suggest a subdivision... BTW, anyone know whats going on with the new burke library? They built a parking lot and then they just stopped and havent done anything for like 4 months.
  7. Anyone know whats going on here? Here's a aerial view of the site, from Windows Live Local. http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&..._&encType=1
  8. There are some signs of interesting architecture around fx county. Like the new transportation building in fairfax, or the new libraries around the area. Those office buildings around the dulles airport aren't that bad either...but i have a leaning towards modern architecture...
  9. I sort of like the broadway, its a little more interesting/modern than some of the other stuff Pass on spectrum, its ok, but nothing really exciting, design-wise HATE 500 maple and especially the pearson!!!! That same style has been done before like 100 times! Do something new for a change! Not sure about the city center, i like the photo you put up of it, it looks somewhat modern and interesting, but the flyover doesn't look at all the same...
  10. I haven't been in that area in a while, but I would assume based on what is already there, that it would be some kind of office? There has been a huge resurgence in office construction since the housing market slumped. Did you check to see what the construction/development company was? \ Anyway, always happy to see more development, especially office, which i love more because it is usually way more modern-looking than those stupid brick-laden, colonial influenced condos... :yahoo:
  11. Has anyone heard of the shirlington village development? I went there today, and it all looks really good, one really interesting is the led board that is on the library!!! Here's the website: The Village at Shirlington
  12. Now that's forward-thinking design!!!! I really hope this project is built as they say it is, and when they say it will start. So many of these of projects get delayed into oblivion. The only problem i see in the renderings is that the bottom level looks dreary and uninviting, but maybe thats just the parking garage.
  13. not sure if this belongs here, but has anyone heard of any news about the silver line, if its going ahead or still stuck?
  14. great to hear about all the rosslyn projects! btw, does anyone know about a new huge development of office building(s?) right around the nokesvillle rd/prince william pkwy? also there is a row of 2 office buildings, one of which was just completed, and another one is going to be built to complete the row.
  15. Here are some new pretty high density condos going up in fairfax, next to the CACi building, i think there ok, and that area could use some less suburban office look, which this will really help with. The only thing i hate is that the builder prides themselves of being a "neo-traditional" builder EYA condos
  16. i havent been on here in a long time, the thread has been moving really slow... There are more developments than ever that are under construction, including a huge amount of office buildings being built along route 28 and around and in the Westfields office park. (i guess when real estate goes down, office skyrockets?). Havent been to reston in a while, but when i was there, they were well underway with south of market. Dulles station is fully under construction, with two office buildings under construction, and the main circle with the first section of 1st floor retail and housing completed. There are many office buildings under construction lining the dulles toll rd, including the completion of the third building in the worldgate complex. There is a new housing development going up right around the fair oaks mall and CaCi building, its not vertical yet, and its next to the fairfax towne center, not fairfax town center . The new burke library that was cancelled in the early 90's recession is U/C new burke library The huge plot of land next to costco and home depot is going to be the "west ox complex" and it looks really amazing! PSTOC building west ox complex elan condos is U/C (7th floor maybe) and the retail portion of the complex is complete, retailers are moving in, and Pei Wei restaurant opened, its like noodles and company but better!! Hope this thread gets going so everyone can know how much development there is in NoVa.
  17. I've passed by that a lot on 95, I think it's the marine/navy museum, very cool, but wish it was commercial/residential though. As for developments, like sugioben said, I have also recently seen some cranes for various projects in tysons, but i don't kwon what they are, emporis just says 14 approved, none u/c. As for other developments around the area: Huge residential development next to fairfax corner well underway, bland though They just cleared a huge swath of land for the new "bus transportation center". Don't know what it'll look like, anyone know how to find renders of govt projects in fx county? Yay! Right around reston twn center, there is new station that looks really cool and suspiciously like a possible metro station? Around fair oaks mall, new camden place condos being constructed, last time I checked they were on the parking garage. Mediterrenean styled Around the silver diner near fair oaks mall, the huge two apartment "elan" complex with some cheaply built townhomes are being built, really cool new little area of shops midway through construction. A bazillion churches being built In centerville, the trinity center office tower II is TO and the glass and top piece is being placed on. Also, in centreville, new office complexes are being built everywhere in specific existing office parks, can't remember which one though, but it's where the DMV is. In fairfax city itself, - a huge addition to the city hall is being built - New addition to the jail well underway, on the 3rd floor last time I checked. - They started and pretty much completed the demo and prep for the new recreation/renovation (whatever) complex the will change many of the streetscapes in the city, name of it previously metioned, can't remember right now. Still nothing on 1725!! Start already! Bonus! the waterview towers in Arlington are also well-underway, excavation complete ,foundation poured.
  18. While I like the idea of a thread dedicated to Tyson's Corner, it's not really needed. I've been around there recently and there's actually nothing is being built right now, except 1725, which I thought would start construction by now, but hasn't. The pictures everyone has been showing is really all that's there, except for the mall, but it's not really urban-related. I'll try to add some new pics of the buildings that are being built around the dulles tech corridor and reston.
  19. We have a wegmans around fairfax, It's amazing! it is set up like a european street with sections that are like "shops" specializing in breads, cakes, pastas, sushi, and specific cultures like asian, french, and alot of others. They have the top section as seating for a restaurant they have in the store, where you can look over the "street". I think it was voted one of if not the best places to work.
  20. This is a little off-topic, but I was talking about it in an earlier post: sprawl! If you want to see some serious Northern VA sprawl, go to: http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.asp...fair+oaks%7c%7c and click urban areas in the top right of the picture to see the "now" image, it's pretty ammazing. It's a collection old satellite images ranging from 1988-1994, and new satellite images from 2002. you can see what an area looked like then and now, although 2002 is a little dated.
  21. Here are some of the websites: Sorry for the mistake, its not 1750 tyson's Boulevard its 1725 1725 Tyson's Boulevard http://www.lernerenterprises.com/commercia...25tysonsii.html Waterview Towers http://www.jbg.com/page.cfm?pageID=6&BldgID=113 Midtown Reston http://www.midtownreston.com/MidtownReston/photogallery.html Elan Condos http://www.elancondos.com/main.html Potomac Yard http://www.nationalgatewayarlington.com/index.html Here is a website for most new residential construction in the metro area http://www.dclofts.com/loftsinva.html
  22. Sorry I have been out of the forum for so long, I've been checking the progress of the projects around the area Tyson's 1750 tower hasn't started construction yet, but they have a sign posted at the site that a new building is coming and there are those plastic walls surrounding the site The Waterview towers have started contruction and are coming along well Haven't heard anything about the 492 ft tower though The midtown towers at reston are almost topped out and the exterior brick and stone is going on, and a third tower a the site is also rising The site for the elan condos in fair lakes area is cleared and the new shoppping center around the condos is being built Alot of construction in the carlyle area of alexandria around the new uspto offices ! The potomac yard complex is under construction and one and two potomac yard are under construction and are topped out and block e east, which includes 386 luxury apartments and 8,000 square feet of retail space, is under construction with a few floors above the ground.
  23. Since this is an urban forum, i only posted developments in areas i consider to be urban or becoming increasingly urban. If you want to see sprawl, go to a real estate site and search for loudon county, the fastest growing county in the country, and you'll see what i'm talking about. It's sad loudon had really nice countryside before all the development
