  1. That would be Princess Anne High School.
  2. ::Gets out little red pen:: Tsk, tsk, that pesky "your" again. I'm going to assume this latest error was intentional for the sake of "fun times", but really, if you're going to criticize other people's grammar, then make sure you hold yourself to the same standard. /grammar rant. Also, did anyone see in the pilot today that there will be a new townhome/light residential/shopping development at Princess Anne and Independence? I knew that field's days were numbered.
  3. I can't resist this. perhaps you should take your own advice and proofread your own ramblings...to clarify, I think the word you were searching for is "you're", not "your". Or were you being sarcastic? It's so hard to tell on the intarwubs. And just to make this post have at least a little relevance, I do actually agree with you that Virginia Beach can be thought of as a suburb to Norfolk. At least at one point in time, but I definitely do think it's at least starting to break away from that distinction.
  4. ...well, i enjoyed the story. a little bit of virginia beach history is acceptable now and then, i think.
  5. Question: In regards to the as of yet undeveloped parcel in town center (the one between Cosmopolitan and Westin)...It's been previously referred to as a "mid-rise" block, but what exactly does that entail? If I remember correctly, it called for first-floor retail, a theater on the second floor, and residences above. I'm curious to know what sort of impact (if any) this will have on our fledgling skyline...would this constitute something like 12 stories? 5? Can anyone make an informed prediction? It's not supposed to be like the plaza building or Cheesecake Factory, is it?
  6. having a clock down there is a good idea, i'm a bit surprised there wasn't one already included with the whole town center package. i was more excited at first, but after looking at your pictures harder, i can't tell: is it made out of plastic or something? i hope not.
  7. I had thought that regal was staying put, and the midrise block was going to have a theater similar to the Norva, with the sundance group or something. has that changed, or was that never planned and i'm just making things up? as for cosmo...i've driven by there at night quite a bit lately, and i've noticed several lights on. i think it will continue to fill up at a decent pace. and didn't johnny rockets just open? i wouldn't expect its sales to be stellar immediately, but i'm no expert on such things.
  8. oh right. i knew that...city view, city walk, city center, town center, it's all getting to be too much to remember which is which.
  9. so...nothing terribly new in this article, just mention about the urban walmart and city view...seems we may have to deal with another strip mall, though...and is the whole foods idea getting a bit shaky? i can't comprehend how anyone would think a typical strip mall is well suited for that area. sorry if this is already old news to everyone, i'm not quite as in the loop as most others here. Walmart, City View, and strip malls
  10. for those who may not have noticed yet: the town center website has finally updated its photo page beyond jan'06....it now also includes feb, march, and april. it's about time, i was getting impatient!
  11. just curious...are the trees i circled below the future site of CityView? i wonder if they'd be tall enough to see from ground level around B&N and so on.
  12. woo we made number 7...i had a feeling we'd be somewhere on this list. cities made for walking
  13. this is definitely just the beginning of a work in progress, but i feel the urge to share anyway...i've begun a person project to build small scale models of downtown norfolk, and below is the start of a practice one. eventually i'll do larger, much more detailed models that include future projects not yet built. the photoshopped pictures that are put up here are excellent, but i'd prefer something i can see from different angles. if this sort of thing is inappropriate for posting on urbanplanet, let me know and i'll kindly keep such things to myself. if not, then great. sorry about the photo quality, there's nothing for the camera to really focus on yet.
  14. eh...sorry, but i have to say that these houses make my stomach churn just a bit. they just look like typical "vinyl siding with brick for a splash of class" sort of deals. what i wouldn't give to have just one suburban development around here that has a bit more thought put into it.
