  1. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Whenever we seem to go there it is not that busy so I hope that people hear about it and it catches on. This past Sunday I did try their bacon and it was yummy...nice smoky flavor. My husband had their vegetarian Eggs Benedict this time (I again opted for the Belgian waffle) and we both practically licked our plates clean. It's such a unique place and I hope they do well. I'm actually about to go up there because I ordered some pies from them for a holiday work shindig--I'm not much of a cook myself unfortunately
  2. Loft 1523 is opening soon there which will have martini's and other cocktails.
  3. I just have to say that Creation's Sunday brunch is out of this world. I was very impressed. The first time I went there I had toasted almond french toast which came with fresh fruit on the side and I had a side of homefries, which were unique and spicy. They have 3 different kinds of mimosas...I had the pomegranate, yummy. The next weekend I had the beligian waffle topped with fresh fruit which was scrumptious and it comes with a cream cheese egg roll on top which was heavenly. This time I got the mango mimosa which I liked even better than the pomegranate. We got a side of breads this time around which included 3 chocolate chip and 3 blueberry muffins with a container of jam. Next time around I think I may try their fritatta. I highly recommend their brunch. I have a hard time during the week with the menu just because everything is *very* spicy when it comes to their noodle bowls, so I can't eat there as often as I might like to. The scallop entree is very good though and the desserts are always excellent.
  4. I'm a New York Transplant as well (though I've been in NC for 10 years now, 6 in Charlotte) and I do not know why Eastland gets such a bad rap either. I've shopped there many times, have even gone there by myself and I'm a female, and I have never had a problem. There was a fight that broke out with some teenagers some months back, but Eastland had its rep before that so I'm sure all that did was inflame it, but was not the cause of it. Perhaps I will get flamed for it, but I really think that it is a racial issue. Coming from the North you may not have noticed it yet, but you will, there is more of a racial divide down here still. It's not overt, but subtle. And it's not a strictly black/white issue either. Alot of the international community resides on the east side, which is what makes it so unique and flavorful, but that is what I think many don't like about it. Hopefully it's just growing pains and Charlotte will get over it and embrace the international community and give more love to the east side.
  5. Good stuff! I've been waiting for the tavern to come. I heard about it coming last year and wondered what was up with it. I also noticed the space a few doors down from that which had an "All Access Coming Soon" sign was finally taken down. It said it was going to be some kind of venue with wireless internet and such, but that sign was up for over a year and nothing ever came of it. I wonder what happened.
  6. FYI, I was just at the crawl this evening and there is a new dry cleaner that just opened up on N. Davidson right next door to RealEyes Bookstore. Personally, I don't see that there is or has to be any competition (other than healthy) between Plaza Midwood and NoDa. I think the two only complement each other. But if I had to choose to live on either Central Ave or N. Davidson, I'd choose the latter at this point in time. That being said, there needs to be neighborhoods that offer different things and I think the two do just that in their individual quirky ways. Oh yeah, and I think they might be clearing out those two empty buildings between 34th and 35th. There was a big dumpster full of junk in front of them.
  7. I think it changes names once you cross the train tracks cuz I know it's still called Matheson up at N. Davidson. Awesome pic! Some more good news for the Plaza Midwood/NoDa area (and some of you folks here may already know -and- if you know more than me let me know please!) is that Chef Geoff Bragg is supposed to be opening up a new vegetarian restaurant in the 'hood. He was the chef at Peaceful Dragon which just shut down the restaurant portion recently (I'm still in mourning over it.) Last I heard he was still looking for a space in the area and I am dying to find out where it will be. Every empty space I think to myself "perhaps it will be there?!?" I heard the name of it is supposed to be "Meet" which is quite cute and clever for a veggie place. God, I hope he keeps the dumplings.
  8. Businesses over there do sometimes advertise they are in NoDa. I know The Charleston House restaurant advertises in the NoDa section of Creative Loafing and they're right on The Plaza too. I think it's close enough to be ok since it seems to border on the NoDa and Plaza/Shamrock neighborhoods.
