  1. Welcome to the forum and to Charlotte if you're relatively new to the city. By your last quote, I know what you mean by instant gratification. It may just be my downfall!
  2. A couple of things stood out to me when I was reading the list of tenants from a few posts earlier. Flying Biscuit (breakfast all day) sounds way cool as it is THE best meal of the day (as well as possibly the worst for you if you consume mass quantities of the typical fare as I tend to do, but I run it off so I can As Raintree alluded earlier all day as in 24 hours perhaps? Again, this is the best kind of food to pull that off. Second, I could see the CVS possibly being 24 hours as it is very close to Presby and CMC (not sure how late the Rite-Aid, formerly Eckerd, at Myers Park stays open). Third, has anyone eaten at Libretto's (NYC pizza)? Next to breakfast fare this is THE best comfort food, and if it's anything like Brooklyn Pizza in Stallings or Matthews I'm all in. The hip quotient shoots up a couple of notches for me if it's the only other location outside of NYC. Finally, could this project's success be the deciding factor for other retailers to come Uptown as there are more than just the typical eateries included in this list?
  3. Very true. Some nice infill development along Trade from Gateway to Tryon would be very nice to encourage more pedestrian activity and then the JWU students could take their parents and out-of-town visitors for a nice stroll.
  4. I had a conversation with one of the employees at the Ballantyne Village Theater and it is owned by a Texas businessman who owns several independent theaters around the country. Maybe he could be in the mix for the Epicenter theater as well.
  5. Yes, with our downtown not being on or close to a waterfront, we must import the water. Something about an oasis among the skyscrapers teeming with exotic living creatures just sounds appealing. A lot of times when I go uptown and see lots of families on the weekends, I feel kind of bad because I just don't see that much for them to do. And as an aside, has anyone noticed or is it just coincidence from my visits that The Green has turned into 'Hippie Haven'. Not that its bad or anything, because I think its cool that there's a different segment of the population enjoying our fine center city.
  6. The billionaire list was released by Forbes and there are 2 from the Charlotte region. Could we please have one of them step up to the plate and donate 250 million dollars like the guy from Home Depot in Atlanta and build us something like their aquarium. Discovery Place is nice if your 4 years old, but it desperately needs to be updated or replaced by something more world-class. A guy can dream, right?
  7. This is it, baby! I'm calling it. This is the final piece of the puzzle to make Charlotte a legitimate 3-5 day tourist destination. I say we go all out and do something like the hotel in vegas that has a drop-zone-like ride on its roof. Let's face it, uptown still has that banker, staid stigma attached to it. It's time to grab the bull by the horns, throw up some neon signs, and show the rest of the U.S. of A. how we do it over here in Charlotte!!
  8. Guys, I think your comments about how the 'outside world' views us is humourous and sweet, but keep in mind that ESPN, forbes, etc are 1 guy making a statement about his/her limited worldview. We are worldclass all the way baby!!!!!!
  9. Could all the last-minute meetings have been because of a possible relo for Nascar headquarters? They like to do things big and are the ultimate showman. I wouldn't be surprised if they had additional announcements to make at this press conference.
  10. Nascar House of Blues, Nascar mini-theme park nearby, anyone? Heck, why not.
  11. Although this headline is surely not 'Dewey defeats Truman', it is very titillating nonetheless. With an independent economist predicting 62 million dollars revenue per year and the creation of 741 tourism-related jobs I say tally-ho, onward!
  12. I say if Atlanta gets it then let's move on and put a nice new aquarium uptown filled with sharks with laser beams attached to their fins. I'm sure in the long run we'd have better attendance as well.
  13. The ingredient that makes us a frontrunner is synergy. Could the North commuter train/transit line be used to connect the Hall to those Nascar teams' garages and museums in Huntersville, Mooresville and Cabarrus County?
  14. Perhaps a positive sign that Brian France the CEO of Nascar was in town last week, not with local Nascar bigwigs but with Tim Newman, the leader of the CRVA. Keeping my fingers crossed, and December's right around the corner.
