  1. I worked at Coca-Cola in Middletown for 4 summers, it is a great city. Middletown has to have one of the largest concentrations of Italians in the state. I know New Haven and Providence flip flop from year to year for most Itialians per capita in the US. I love gazepis Pizza, I believe thats how you spell it and all the smaller dellis around town. I use to always get free food working for Coca-Cola
  2. Are you serious? HAHAHA, OMG wow, I almost just fainted. Now please Connecticut support this route, dont let this die out!!!!!
  3. You flew on a ERJ 140 made by Embraer out of Brazil. Nice little jets, however not for a 2.5 hour flight. Another market in which AA used to have 4 daily mainline flights on MD80's. Only flights I can tolerate Regional jets are the ones less than 1 hour. The CRJ's by Canadair are by far the worst in comfort.
  4. United uses a good mix of 757/A320's on the Chicago route now. As for small jets, I know that I don't want to be on a small regional jet for 2+ hours. It is bad enough to be on one for 1 hour. AA is really going to hurt itself in Hartford. It has always had a good presence here and there is a strong frequent flyer base that I am sure will be going to other airlines now. The Chicago-Hartford market has a strong pax per day market. All those top Frequent flyers don't want to sit in a small coach seat for 2 hours, now they will upgrade with united so they can sit in first.
  5. Dumb dumb dumb. American was always a strong player at BDL, now Untied will have that market in its back pocket along with Southwest. At least AA stays mainline to Miami, Dallas, and San Juan. 6. A tower Records or Virgin mega store would be a nice addition, I don't think it would hurt the smaller shops around downtown. I personally like Barnes and Noble better, but a Borders would also be a nice addition.
  7. Every single seat will never be full in any airport. BDL still has a good 5-10 years before any space is needed.
  8. Most of the flights will be put into regular delta mainline, but most 757's will be gone and 737's and MD80's will run the route. If you go to Delta.com and download the electronic time table, you can see the schedules for up to June I believe.
  9. BDL to Rome may never happen but BDL to a major International Hub with a short connection to Rome would be a lot easier than having to drive to JFK or BOS for a flight. All the times I have flown to Europe has been on Continental with a connection in Newark, so the new JFK flights really are nothing special since EWR connections to Europe have always been there.
  10. Never understood why they made bridges only for HOV lanes. When they were built about 15 years ago HOV was kind of new and just getting started so maybe that could be to blame. Remember when they were first built you needed 4 people in the car, then it dropped down to 3 and now 2.
  11. I agree. It is so stupid how Connecticut made their HOV lanes. Here in Phoenix and I believe most cities, the HOV lanes are a solid white line that you can move in and out of and only have a restriction from 6AM-9AM and 3PM-7PM. During non-rush hour times the HOV lanes act as a normal passing lane. If they had a similar one on I-91 and I-84 it would help out a lot more. Instead you have a unused lane for the entire HOV segments which serve no purpose. They could have at least put a train in there instead of waisting two full lanes in each direction.
  12. I think it will break news in the Sunday courant. I didn't find anything in todays courant online, so possibly they are holding off for the full story Sunday with some renderings? I hope so.
  13. I don't understand why light rail isn't being built. Hartford isn't a small metro area. Markets like Buffalo, Portland, Kansas City all have light rail systems. Portland's is really nice and extensive. I wish Hartford could just model some of those cities instead of throwing money out the window like they are with the bus route.
  14. Delta did do BDL-BOS-Bermuda but I believe Eastern started it and then Delta took over when they bought Eastern, I forget. Delta usually adds and drops 767's at BDL, so one day they might be there and the next they won't. Now that I look back on it, it wasn't AA that used a 747, it was UA and they flew the 747-100 BDL-ORD.
  15. Yep, also American flew their first 747-100's! ORD-BDL. Eastern use to fly Lockheed widebodies from BDL to Boston onto Bermuda, and there are a few more I am missing that would be quite interesting today. Today the only wide bodies BDL see are from Delta with 767's to ATL and Cincinatti, and American with A300's to San Juan. You might see a 747 on ocassion from a cargo carrier and 767's and other Airbus widebodies are pretty common from cargo also.
  16. They are. I believe BDL saw around 7.4 million pax in 2005. If you are interested in BDL there is a really good message board on yahoo under clubs. Just look for Bradley International airport. You can ask a ton of questons relating to BDL and people usually have the breakdowns of passengers by airline and cargo activity. If you email BDL they will put you onto a email list to get monthly passenger numbers too!
  17. That would be only the first phase, but they are hoping the whole thing gets built at once which is expected to call for developer Bradley Nitkin to build up to 200 residential units and roughly 150,000 square feet of retail space, including a number of restaurants.
  18. All the times I have used the New Haven station I have never come across a parking issue, however I also have not used it much during the weekdays. One option could be Amtrak to New Haven, if the job is paying for it I would think this might be a option to look into. Although Amtrak doesn't have the frequency a comuter train has, I am sure you could figure something around its schedule. As for Furniture, it seems you have hit up most the spots I would have. Ethan Allen is a bit pricey but has nice things. Ikea in New Haven is hit or miss in my oppinion. I would also love to know how things are going on at your residence. How is the overall feel of the place, how are neighboors, do people seem to be enojoying it. Have you found places to eat downtown, and places to go out on a night? Hartford has a bunch of hidden gems in my oppinion for eateries and night live, you just need to explore.
  19. Not that this adds anything to the discussion, but I have a friend who is 1/16th Mohegan and he gets 75k a year for the rest of his life just for being 1/16th. I asume the more you have in you the more money you get.
  20. Jetblue to Oakland would work, it is a easy connection into downtown San Francisco. Airport to downtown only takes about 45 mins on bart. However I don't see Jetblue starting service at BDL with only one flight. I would think they would add BDL if they planed on adding Florida routes and San Juan out of BDL which are both big markets from BDL.
  21. I think the best bet for any new domestic airline would be Frontier. Service to Denver is under served, no non stop flights since after 9/11 when United cut the only N/S flight in the market. Jetblue probably will eventually serve BDL within the next 5-10 years, don't think any sooner. Once they get into the Florida point to point market more, BDL would be a good choice for them. JFK is simply to close to justify non stops because it would only serve as a connection point. Possibly they would also add another west coast destination out of BDL or maybe San Juan. Spirit I would consider very doubtful, they are simply too small of a airline and not very well known. On another note American Airlines has said that they plan on stoping service to PVD. They will still serve Chicago from PVD with American Eagle, but mainline will be gone from PVD come April. I wouldn't expect the same to happen at BDL simply because it is a much bigger business destination, and San Juan is a very good market for them out of BDL.
  22. Any flights to London would have to go to Gatwick, and Heathrow is more known for their European connections so I doubt we would see a London flight. If anything, the startup company that was considering doing London flights would be the best bet, however with how things are going in the industry I doubt we will see it any time soon. it would be more likley to see BDL get service from KLM or possibly Lufthansa. KLM could to 767 service over the pond so there really wouldn't need to be a huge plane on the route, possibly evan a 757 with Icelandair through their capital city with connections onto more European destinations would work also.
  23. The Bermuda II agreement- Read here Also this
  24. Poor New Haven just lost it's delta flights again.
