  1. PVD'sflight to Azores is nothing compared to BDL getting AMS service. This is one of the biggest things that could ever happen to Hartford. Now having a true international flight to Amsterdam makes Hartford part of the big boys, Hartford is one step closer to being a big time major league city. This is not only good for Harford but all of Southern New England. Now instead of driving 2+ hours to get on a international flight all you have to do is drive the short distance to BDL and walk less than 500 feet to the terminal. Makes it so much nicer than the headaches in NYC, Boston or when you have to make multiple connections to get to Europe. Hartford's insurance and financial industry will support this flight enough on its own. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of agreement for the business community to make a commitment to buy tickets. Not only will the business community make this work, but Delta, Continental and NW might actually end up routing some passengers through BDL onto AMS and beyond. There is a rumor once again on airliners.net that this is only the beginning and that BDL might see more expansion from others soon, let
  2. Imagine ESPN putting a downtown news room! Kind of like what they have in NYC.
  3. How much retail was there on Constitution plaza? Is there anyway to create retail again in this area? It would be nice if Constitution plaza could have some kind of residential and retail tied into it. I think the city and state should consider redeveloping CP sometime in the near future after Front St takes off.
  4. I hope we see some updated plans soon. It would be nice to see a 10-12 floor building, but I would be happy with 8-10 buildings all in the 4-5 floor range so it would be like the old neighboorhood it once was.
  5. Good news. I thought the whole revised project was suppose to be 115 units and 60,000 SF of retail? Wasn't the agreement for Nitkin to build the whole thing at once and not in phases? If this is only the first phase numbers than I think with the second phase the whole project will be great. I could be wrong with the numbers though?
  6. Let's hope so. I want a huge color front page article in the courant. Lets get people excited about downtown.
  7. That is the state trying to make it look like things are being done.
  8. Albuqurque, New Mexico is starting a commuter rail system! Salt Lake City has a light rail system. I know there are smaller cities out there that have or are starting rail projects and Connecticut/Hartford is so far behind.
  9. True, I never thought about the electric over heads, but I doubt that will be done. The only way it would be done is if they added the electric overheads all the way to St. Albans, and that would be another huge expence for Amtrak. If state was planning on doing electric overhead, I would think they would want to go in on it with Amtrak since they could start using electric trains all the way from the Canadian border to Washington.
  10. I may be wrong, but how hard is it going to be? Buy some trains, or borrow some from shoreline east or metro north, put them on the tracks, print schedules, hire people, and start. 2 years at most it should take.
  11. Why can't things get done in Hartford? How hard is it to get things rolling. This has been 6 years in the making.
  12. State Gives Front Street Developer More Time July 15, 2006 By JEFFREY B. COHEN, Courant Staff Writer While voicing concern that the long-delayed downtown development at Front Street in Hartford is missing deadlines, the state agency that oversees the project gave the developer an additional two months Friday to complete the next phase of the operation: a promise of money from the city. In February, the state's Capital City Economic Development Authority signed an agreement with Greenwich developer Bradley Nitkin that allows for a phased development of the retail, residential and entertainment district. The project aims to link Adriaen's Landing with the rest of downtown. http://www.courant.com/news/local/hc-ctfro...headlines-local
  13. The tallest peak on Four Peaks is Browns peak at 7,657. It is also the only area in Maricopa County that recieves anual snowfall.
  14. This commuter line needs to spur through BDL. There are already tracks in place near BDL, however I don't know where they lead to. Having a commuter line run through BDL would make it a easier alternative for Fairfield country residents not having to go into NYC. At least run a bus from the Windsor Locks station to the terminal if a rail spur can't be done.
  15. I will ask my dad if he knows anything about what is going on. He bids on projects for a large Concrete company so more than likley they will have some work with this project.
  16. New England Central runs 4 trains a day from Palmer, Mass to Willimantic via Stafford. In Willimantic the trains run down to Franklin and from there I believe go onto New London? There is a rail link between Norwich and Willimantic on the west side of the Thames as previously stated. In the 90's Amtrak ran a train from New London to Montreal via Willimantic. Willimantic has many train lines running into it. Back in 20's and 30's Willimantic was a very important transportation center with trains to Hartford, Palmer, Boston, Providence, and NYC/New Haven. Today the only active line is from Palmer to Norwich. The line to Hartford is now a Nature walk, along with the lines onto Boston/Providence which were destroyed during the 38 Hurricane. The line that splits in S. Windham that goes to Plainfield is seldom used but active.
  17. They do look similar, I like Torontos a little better with more glass. They also look about the same height.
  18. It be a good idea if rail ever did take off in Eastern Connecticut to include trains up north to Willimantic on the current New England Central line. You could have stations in S. Franklin, N. Franklin, S. Windham, Downtown Willimantic, upper Main st. Willimantic, and Willington, with a spur going off to Storrs and UConn. Everything could tie into downtown Norwich with trains to the casinos, Utopia, and New London with connections to New Haven, NYC, and Boston. If things were done right years ago, Willimantic could have also been a connection point with trains into Hartford on the old lines that are now nature walks.
  19. The flights did in fact start out when RDU was a "mainline" AA hub. However I have also heard many times that GSC buys a good amount of seats to justify AA staying in the RDU-London market.
  20. Airliners.net is very reliable, however I won't be completely satisfied until I see a press release or hear it directly from somebody at the NW BDL station.
  21. Passengers can fly between those cities if they were on the flight that originated on foriegn soil. However John Doe can't buy a ticket from Seattle to Las Vegas on a foriegn carrier. I forget the name of the law, but it was put in place during the 70's I believe.
  22. Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Hartford to Phoenix would work. Phoenix once had LH service but it only lasted a couple years. BA has done this is past years, once had London to Phoenix to San Diego. Problem is a foreign airline can't fly between two US cities so they have to reply on the international traffic.
  23. Long range master plans at BDL actually include a parallel runway to 6-24 and to add 1,000-2,000 feet to 6-24. I forgot what the plans looked like, but the second runway was going to be north of the control tower, and the additional 1,000 to 2,000 feet would be added at the end of the runway where the saftey strip is currently. These master plans wouldn't be until around the year 2020-2025 so it is years away.
  24. I think the poster ment Press Release articles from the AP or NW. Right now it is really just a rumor flying around on airliners.net, however that site is usually very well respected when it comes to breaking news before medio or the airline. Amsterdam works well because it is a sky team hub. People on DL, CO and NW will be able to take the NW codeshare flight from BDL through AMS to 100's of locations throughout the world from AMS. BDL I asume will also see some connection traffic if this flight goes through. DL, NW, and CO might route some passengers through BDL so O&D won't be the entire flight.
