  1. If this info is true, either store would be a great addition to South Hampton Roads. I'm always surprised at the lack of attention HR gets from national retail outfits.
  2. I saw that ad last night...dove by the location today and they had the signage torn down from the building. A friend who works at the mall told me about it getting torn down for a Target about a year ago. So maybe it's finally happening.
  3. HR will continue to be typecast as an area that's a gamble, unless we get more high paying jobs/industry. It's unfortunate, but we are an overlooked region with regards to getting our just due recognition. With a population just shy of 2mil, we should have a lot more retail/restaurants than we presently do. Until we get over the stigma of "Just being a NAVY town," we'll never live up to our potential as a metropolitan area.
  4. What is their vision or business model? To have a Walmart on every corner? Having one on Lynnhaven Pkwy, Kings Grant and then TC seems like redundancy to me...but what do I know, I refuse to shop there because of these policies and how they treat distributers and suppliers.
  5. From reading this article I can say this for certain, Mr. Seamon is exactly what our region needs. He understands that we're competing on a global level to attract new business. He seems aware of our strengths and weakneses; and is competant enough to work beyond those limits. I'm glad to see someone like this getting hired to promote Va Beach.
  6. Tower two, isn't that supposed to start in the 3rd quarter of 2006. So if that plan still holds up it should be fairly soon.
  7. Welcome aboard sbc. My sister lives down there in the Atlanta area and I enjoy my visits. That's different from living there...don't despise it, find something that you like and embrace it. Anyways, the 757 is an often overlooked area, it's kind of like a well known secret. With all of the development going on up here it's hard to envision what the final product will look like. It's enough to make this lifelong HR resident proud, with all of the new urban cores and redeveloping down towns we'll have plenty of new things to enjoy in the future.
  8. JAG often mentions NorFOLK...which I can't stand and then they include the Holywood Norfolk harbor complete with mountains and rocky coastlines. For the older generations, Magnum PI often reflected on his youth in Tidewater VA and once said: "my childhood home had grown up...just like me" or something thereabouts but very cool when you think someone was talking of this area back in the 80's as being all grown up. NCIS reflects the JAG experince (comes from the same producer, Belisario). Down Parascope had the same rocky Norfolk Coastline. That's all that I can think of right now.
  9. I read that they are planning on redoing the I64/I264 interchange as well Babiko. I thought it was put into budget by former gov Warner in one ofhis last few executive decisions or transportation plans. As for the gridlock that it may ceate...get ready for inconsistant lane closures and longer rush hours everybody. I can't wait for that one.
  10. It's great news to hear that the cruise lines are coming back. I guess it can be attributed to market swings. They had better get moving on that terminal, it's like watching ice cubes melt. BTW wouldn't it be nice to market Norfolk as a destination with a light rail line to the ocean front? We'd really see more lines using the Norfolk terminal with more options of activities for a port of call.
  11. I just took a little venture out too look over the signs and it looked like a different high rise to me. It looked a bit too tall to be the TCW building. The structure looked really cool, with a concave look to it. Again, I have no way to confirm what this building is, it could be urban filler for all we know; you know, to make the TC look more urban to help sell more units in the Westin. Look across the street from Dicks to see what I'm rambling about.
  12. Today while driving home I looked over on the Signage covering up the Westin Site and noticed on the Columbus St side there's a rendering for a building that I don't recognize. It could be a few things: 1. I was driving and din't get a good look at it, 2. It's a new building that had angles that are unique to TC, 3. It's just filler images that they're filling space up with. Not trying to cause alarm with this one...if you pass this area look for it. If I saw things correctly there's an image of a building with a blueish glass facade and it looked to have some curveture within that glass design. I'm gonna look over some of the photos that have been posted and try and verify whether or not I'm going crazy.
  13. A bit off topic but what the heck, Cadeho I love that pic of Richmond on your postings. Richmond always impresses me with it's density. It has a nice DT but doesn't get the recognition it deserves as a metropolitan area.
  14. A few weeks ago I was complaining about the lack of any Town Center signs along I-264. Today I noticed that they're putting the stakes into the ground for new signs along the roadside. These appear to be for the "points of interest" type of signs. (all appear to be from the beach to about Laskin Rd) So hold your breath, and I'll say my prayers that my pet peeve will be solved. Also something worth noting. The Laskin Rd gateway project is really getting underway. Baltic Ave(from 29th to Laskin) and 30th St(Arctic to Baltic) are totally dug up and new sewage/water pipes are going in. Prep work for behind the Farm Fresh is done. All power lines/utilities are going to be burried. It's a mess right now, hopefully they'll make this into a nice grand entrance for the ocean front. It will make it really urban looking with a three lane highway(two inbound &1outbound) butting up against the new condos being built there.
  15. This entire debate is a touchy one. People who are in favor of some sort of amnesty are looked upon as being to easy on lawbreakers and beholdened to business interests. On the otherhand, folks trying to crack down are branded as being mean spirited. You'll never win this argument from both sides of table's viewpoint. I personally will take the side of doing something to stop this practice known as illegal imigration. We should build a wall in the urban areas with dense populations of folks eager to get to the other side. We must go after their potential employers...if there's no supply of jobs then the imigrant demand will drop off. And lastly, our government needs to go after those who come here legally and then over stay their visas. If they went after their sponsors then more people would obey the rules. I've known too many legal immigrants who spent many dollars and much time filing out paperwork and paying lawyers to watch a bunch of criminals get head of the line priviledges. Remember this, we have no requirement to offer jobs to the people of other countries, even in the most squalor of conditions we are not responsible for things in their countries. I think that is more of a moral issue, we should do our part to help on a humanitarian basis, but not legal. It burns me to see these demonstrators holding signs written in spanish, holding Mexican flags, who are in our country telling us that we must allow them into this country to work. Who are they to tell my government what it should or shouldn't do? I can't go to England and over stay my visit and then tell them that they must allow me to stay because my family is getting rich due to the remitances that I'm sending home. Many come here for a better life, which I applaud. Some come here for the money and that is something I can't stand. They care not for our country and don't bother to learn the language or bother to fit in. This is my rant, let me have it if you care to, I'm open to fair debate.
