  1. The garage has windows? I didn't notice any. I think the facade is just about finished, except for the class-covered stairwells. The one garage I completely dispise is the new one next to Nikki's in Greektown. O.M.G., it's ugly!!
  2. Oh, I wasn't at the game, just at the Coney. lol A guy and his son were sitting at the table next to me with RW jerseys on, and they told me the game was a really good one...in overtime!
  3. Were you there Monday night, Allan? I was at the American after the Red Wings game.
  4. Mackinac Bridge: pronounced Mack'-in-awe, connects Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsulas. (5 mile span). Separates Lake Michigan from Lake Huron. This is looking north into the Lake Michigan shore of the Upper Peninsula, but the water in the foreground is Lake Huron.
  5. An old East Riverfront warehouse (no longer exists).
  6. No, that's one of Tony's pictures. He gave me permission to use them since I'm always there to go out and take photographs of the city. But I DO have a new camera that I've been using since August now and am building myself a nice sized library of photos. I just have to get some webspace which should hopefully happen very soon. Fountain Pics:
  7. Here's a good Detroit photo of the day: Old Ste. Mary's and Blue Cross Blue Shield, Greektown
  8. Yah that helps. I like Ann Arbor, but the the little gold M gives me hives!
  9. I live in Detroit and I didn't know those houses were built. If anything, as an urban planner, I like learning of stuff like this because I'm very critical of what goes on in this city (critical meaning I tend to weigh positives and negatives and ask myself questions). Detroit isn't a typical case by any means, and these houses illustrate that. My Manhattan comment relates to what the typical Detroit homebuyer can afford and what type of neighborhoods the city is layed out as (not Manhattan).
  10. I can report witnessing new facade going vertical up the building.
  11. ECHK! That's just too much yellow to digest for one night! Show me some green and white to soften the blow to my fragile little eyeballs.
  12. The last time I checked, Detroit is a very poor city. Most of its residents can't afford a typical loft in Manhattan.
  13. Yah, that's the only thing I'm going to miss as well. Too bad it can't be reused somewheres. I'm looking forward to an announcement on the Globe Building!
  14. Why can't you park on the street on November 2 only?
  15. Oh, thanks for that info. I didn't know that. That clock pic is very mysterious. It helps tell the story of Detroit.
  16. You know what would be great is if Hotel Yorba brought its namesake back and opened again. Either the same one (highly unlikely) or a new one elsewhere. Ah, who am I kidding, I was hoping the Hotel Madison Lenox was going to stay or reinstated into the namesakes of Detroit. I still hope it does, but know it's not. h'mph. Names like those really address the unique local color that we have (had) in Detroit.
  17. Huuuury up, won'cha put 'er on the line, I gotta talk to my girl just'a one more time... ...and I don't even like country that much.
  18. I don't know you're feelings on that, Allan, but I think it would be a GREAT and unique spot for a well-known and established blues joint! I would hope that little pocket lot hugging Farmer would be built upon too...That merely-one-space parking lot they built for the YMCA is a no-no...and hopefully the last we'll see of anything like that!
  19. Maybe it's cuz they're just not broken. Wordsmith, I go to the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Boston Edison, and you're right, there is a lot of demolition going on up there. Trowbridge at Woodward (north side of the church) was transformed over this one summer ('05).
  20. I dunno. Neat pic. It appears as though the window are new making me wonder about restoration efforts. I'm doubtful since I know Del Rey isn't exactly a reviving area.
  21. When I first moved to Detroit last year and was trying to find Catholic Churches to go to, I remember the revalation I felt when no one spoke English at Holy Redeemer. lol ^Great pic!

    Detroit Off Topic

What was Illitch's comment not to long ago: "I'm not a real estate or economic developer"? That couldn't be further from the truth which makes me believe wherever his presence is downtown is in lots of trouble!
  23. It appears as though the nasty parking garage that is attached to it is also getting some TLC. I would hope that would mean a new facade since it doesn't appear that garage is going anywhere anytime soon.
  24. Maybe the Chrysler Building in Windsor should have a PT Cruiser blasting out of the building like the HQ in Auburn Hills did a while back. lol
