  1. Although Parisian is becoming non-existent, I could imagine a store along the lines of a Parisian going on the coast to test the waters to see where exactly coastal residents stand with an upscale department store.
  2. yup. it's the Canon Center portion of the Convention Center.
  3. it's seems like front is becoming the new South Main...just with newer condos
  4. Isn't the 747 owned by a televangelist living around Smyrna? My brother flew outta there for Corporate before 9-11 and referenced the 747.
  5. how old is this pic? the colors make it seem a tad aged, but I think I see the forum, so I'm not really sure...and I agree, but the rice fields make it where development is allowed a tad further inland.
  6. You need to come back through MEM...the concessions expansion/renovation has made it much better than it used to be! As for Continental, I also keep it in the middle...it's a great airline for international routes, etc...but they are so political and seem to not like any form of competition (they are major opposition to Virgin America).
  7. I agree with Lexy (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) on this. If Southwest starts buying E-Jets, it basically loses its strategy. Maintenence costs are so low due to the all 737 fleet. I've heard about a possible purchase of E-jets, but I doubt it will happen. I can only see more winglets in the future to give those 737s greater distance!
  8. Southwest Airlines...Top 10 Airports This is where my info came from...based on this, BNA would have to have 91 or fewer daily departures.
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong here...or if I'm reading into things...but it seems as though when Southwest is brought up, people claim that what makes it so unique is the fact that it doesn't have hubs. You and many others have said that it is point to point in operations. Now, I do realize that Southwest would certainly have large centers of operations, but still...I don't think focus cities can be called hubs because they are different things. Furthermore, if you talk to several airline researchers, they will tell you that 90 ops a day is a focus city or simply a point or concentrated ops...not a hub. As I stated, a hub has three vital factors that make it a hub: regional service, extensive domestic service, and international service. The Wright Amendment simply prevents Nashville from having flights to Dallas Love Field, as the Amendment is focused on Dallas Love and anti-compete issues with Texas airports. At the same time, how many airlines have 11 hubs? If you have to call any Southwest airports "hubs" they would have to be Las Vegas (224 flights per day), Chicago-Midway (209 flights per day), Phoenix (206 flights per day), or Baltimore (168 flights per day)...and even then, they would be what Southwest constitutes as a hub...and that is simply heavy ops. If we're going to classify Southern focus cities, Houston Hobby (141 flights per day), Dallas Love (121 flights per day), and Orlando (94 flights per day) would technically be the three largest Southern focus cities.
  10. Is the Paris one currently operating? I tried to find it on the website, but it still had a PHL connection, but I know that there is/was a direct CLT-CDG flight... ------- Charlotte's Caribbean flights suit it well because Charlotte is a banking hub. Many of the Caribbean cities served by the CLT hub are growing banking destinations, thus the CLT international flights are serving what is suitable for Charlotte. Furthermore, as far as banking business and many other business sectors, CLT is just as important as Atlanta airport wise.
  11. Actually, the only seasonal international flights in Memphis are the ones to Vancouver and to Puerto Rico, and the Puerto Rico flight is actually going to become a full-time flight in 2007. Also...not trying to discount Nashville here, but isn't the SWA operation there more along the lines of a focus city? I mean, Nashville is the 11th largest market for the airline and while it is a sizeable operation, I don't think it's a hub because the major quality of a hub airport is to have the regional flights, the large domestic operation, and international flights.
  12. Why are you guys trying to discount CLT as an international hub? The Caribbean is actually quite vital to the United States, and it really isn't just a Spring Break market. Furtermore, it is a rising star as far as banking goes, so I really don't grasp how CLT is less of a business-savvy airport for having more Caribbean destinations that European destinations. Nevertheless, I'll probably suffer for saying this, but a flight to Munich and London are more than certain cities in Tennessee have at their airports.
  13. May I make a request? Will you PLEASE stop trying to make this a personal thing? I am not reading into anything. I am simply replying to information you are setting forth on this thread. Forgive me for not understanding when you say "Makes you wonder why BNA doesn't have more international flights..." or multiple remarks along those lines. I guess I just thought that when you are putting up numbers saying Nashville should have an international flight now and comments claiming that Nashville should have more international flights that you mean today...I guess I should read into it a bit, but that is apparently off limits. I also am not trying to start a "pissing match" between the two cities. However, I am NOT going to sit back and let anyone try to claim that MEM got to be the way it is out of sheer luck...that isn't true. Furthermore, I'm not going to let anyone try to say that I or anyone else in Memphis thinks BNA or the city of Nashville is a hick airport or town, respectively. We'd be stupid if we did. The only time I will be defensive on here is if it is called for. I feel this is when it is called for. I am discussing things like an adult, and the last time I checked, an adult conversation didn't involve someone basically throwing the other person's arguments as "retarded" or accusing that person of not being able to understand something as "complex" as a UP thread.
  14. OK...I am SERIOUSLY not trying to start anything here, but when I calculate those numbers, that is still only about 19 people a day on a BNA-China flight and roughly 58 people a day going from BNA to Europe when I use the figures you mention.
  15. As far as major cities go, BNA has service to most of the ones that MEM and CLT has. BNA just doesn't have the regional service or the multiple international destinations that those two have simply because they are hubs.
  16. 757s apparently are the ideal charter plane for professional sports...my brother was saying that several MLB teams and NBA teams use his airline for charters and all use the 757.
  17. was that a charter flight or does AA still fly 757s to BNA on a scheduled flight?
  18. no no no...i wasn't trying to do that, I was just wondering if it was a new chopper b/c i think i remember reading an absurd thread a few months ago about how memphis was at an advantage b/c nashville didn't have news helicopters...so I thought that it had to be new...not trying to start a fight!
  19. Is that new? Unless I'm imagining things, a few months ago there was a "Memphis is Better Than Nashville Because We Have News Helicopters and Nashville Doesn't Thread." Really intelligent arguments with that one, if I'm not mistaken!
  20. I thought this was settled, but ok... I really don't know what Memphians you talk to, because about 50-60% of Memphians and residents of the Memphis MSA downright hate Memphis and love Nashville. I see it the other way around. Not all...I'll say it again...NOT ALL NASHVILLIANS HATE MEMPHIS...however, I notice that in my experience, there are more Nashvillians ready to hammer Memphis than there are Memphians ready to do the same to Nashville. As far as airports, I and just about everyone here doesn't really view Nashville as competition. I'm sorry, but that is the way it is. We have the largest cargo airport in the world. It generates $20.7 billion and then on top of that is responsible for 166,000 jobs. I'm just mentioning that right now, for a city that sure loves to claim that it is the number one thing in Tennessee, the economic powerhouse that it is known for (the two car factories that "employ more than 10,000 people") certainly pales in comparison to the second-largest MSA in the state. As far as music, I'd check out Memphis...in case you haven't noticed, several labels are relocating to Memphis along with the film industry. Memphis is also one of the largest medical centers in the US and continues to grow with the biotech field. Also, I really wouldn't use a skyscraper as something of merit for a city. Memphis is going in a different route than up...it's going for street level appeal that most on the UP forums agree is more important than a big tower rising up. Cities that are much more important than New York and Chicago have less impressive skylines but much more economic importance. Ah, and if Memphis took the Nashville route and tacked on the entire region it is situated in to its MSA, Memphis would have the largest MSA in the state...but I guess we'll have to just settle for two of the fastest growing counties in the nation.
  21. Glad this is resolved...my fault for bringing up SSC...I read it at around 1AM and I'm not myself that late...anywho, about Embraer, I wasn't saying it as a definitive thing...I mentioned it along with the fact that Southwest was in talks this past week with Russian and Chinese manufacturers about creating/purchasing a 100-150 seater aircraft that was fuel efficient. I mentioned that the E-195 was, in my opinion, the best bet if they went in this direction simply b/c engine maintenance on the E-195 is quite similar to the 737 since the two have the same engine type. Take it as you will, but my source that it's actually going to occur in the next two years is quite credible.
  22. I believe it should be mentioned that my "tirade" was brought about because it's interesting that you keep mentioning how MEM will close. And in case my argument wasn't read correctly, I should mention that I am not one to hold the Memphis airport over Nashville; however, if I wanted to, I would certainly have quite an argument! The only reason I brought MEM into the discussion was after the discussion started turning to how BNA was nearing the MEM pax numbers. I brought in that NW is expanding at MEM, and then it began with the whole "NW is closing or slimming down MEM." I don't get my sources at airliners. net and you shouldn't get yours through pilots or flight crews. The only people at an airline who have any inkling of what is to come are the airline execs. If you believe flight crews and pilots, MEM has been on the verge of shutting down since 1986. Twenty years later, and I think we're still waiting for it to happen! You're entitled to your opinions about MEM and BNA, but keep in mind...MEM isn't as minor as you think it is. It's just quite frustrating to fathom that along with discounting the entire city, some people in Nashville are also going to start discounting the airport here which makes one of the largest economic contributions to this state. I don't think a car plant comes close. Actually Southwest is being courted and going through stages to get it to begin service at MEM in the next year. However, I still prefer having a legacy carrier with some ammenities. Northwest may not be the best, but it still offers MEM international service beyond Mexican and Canadian destinations that you can drive to if you desired. Forgive my "rant."
