This garage is even better hidden than Honeywell’s. I would not have guessed that there was a garage at the bottom.

maybe 4-5 floors. Parking garages take forever to pour.
Thanks. Isn’t the garage going to be a separate structure behind this on Brooklyn Villaage?

Can anyone with an engineering background guess how tall this will be by Thanksgiving? I’ll be in Charlotte for the auto show at that time.

Every time that I’ve been to Charlotte recently, the fountain in Polk Park has been dry. Has the city turned it off due to homeless people bathing in it? Houston and Denver have turned off fountains for that reason.
I’ve always loved this little plaza.

If a reimagined CTC and/or new practice facility across the street ever come to fruition, this Moxy hotel might have gotten lucky with this location….
I thought the same thing.

Uptown Charlotte hotel aimed at millennials back on track after COVID delays
BY GORDON RAGO UPDATED JULY 27, 2022 4:26 PM
Plans for a 13-story, 208-room hotel in uptown are back on track. Moxy Hotels is a Marriott-affiliated brand focused on millennials. The hotel was set to open last year but the project was shelved due to the pandemic. RENDERING COURTESY OF OVERCASH DEMMITT ARCHITECTS Construction on a millennial-focused hotel in uptown — just steps from the Spectrum Center — is expected to break ground this year after a long pause due to the pandemic. The 13-story, 208-room Moxy hotel will go up at 125 S. Brevard St. near E. 4th St., Birju Patel of BPR Properties told The Charlotte Observer. BPR is the developer on the project. Moxy is a Marriott-affiliated brand. Now, the site is a paid public parking surface lot. Once built, hotel guests will zip up to the 13th floor to check in at a lobby bar (with complimentary cocktail) and can check out the view of the skyline — a feature Moxy is known for, Patel said…

The also failed to point out that the state was once part of Great Britain's empire....one of those pesky colonies!
Also, Clt was named for GIII’s wife, Charlotte of Mecklenburg.

Ha ha!
I think that the UNC business and law schools should be in the state’s commercial capital: Charlotte.

That's true about the Triangle, but I think UNCC, Wake Forest University building a secondary campus around the Pearl district, a more robustly funded Queens University, Winthrop University, and Johnson C. Smith University could give Charlotte a stronger foothold in the life sciences industries in the long-term.
I think also the fact that we have the Pearl, University City, & the North Carolina Research Campus will fill those continue to draw those type of industries. Although it may not replace the other entities in the Triangle, Charlotte could definitely give and be more attractive to those who want careers in life sciences a stronger, more urban alternative.
I agree. Charlotte has a lot to offer, and this new campus should help it grow in this area.

Charlotte is so vastly superior to Raleigh. People in the Triangle forum fume when I express that opinion, but it’s true. Raleigh is a fine city, but it doesn’t hold a candle to Charlotte.
As far as parking podiums, I think that pretty much every American city other than NY, DC, and Boston has them. They’re common in Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, etc.

These are key to seeding startups particularly in the biotechnology & biopharmaceutials sectors to the region. As I've said before, Charlotte has the major potential to be a powerhouse in biotech & biopharmaceutial research and production even larger than the Triangle. Since Charlotte is the gateway btwn both North Carolina and South Carolina. It would mutually beneficial for both states for Charlotte to succeed as a Carolina's life sciences industry economic powerhouse region. The spillover economic effects would definitely help York and Lancaster counties for sure.
I love Charlotte and hope to move back there from Chapel Hill, but it will never remotely approach the Triangle in terms of biotech and life sciences. The presence of Duke, UNC, and NC State in a small area gives the Triangle enormous brain power, which few areas in the whole country have on a per capita basis. This is reflected by the enormous number of people with Ph. Ds around here.
The Triangle consistently ranks among the top ten metros for life sciences despite the fact that it’s only about the thirtieth largest metro in America.
I think of the Triangle’s economy as a mini Boston/SF, whereas I think of Charlotte’s as a mini New York.
That being said, I hope that Charlotte’s biotech industry grows substantially. It’s close enough to Duke, UNC, etc. to attract talent, and it’s a more appealing metro than the Triangle.

I sincerely hope that the developer wasn’t bluffing about constructing on spec.

One thing that I've thought about through the years is, why follow interstates with these rail lines? Everyone does, and I can see why with land and easements, etc. But, wouldn't it make sense to run rail into areas where there aren't freeways already? For instance, Matthews to Charlotte, or SouthPark to downtown? Seems redundant to have a freeway and rail line together.
Yes, but the land already exists along the interstate. It seems like it would be nearly impossible to acquire 50 or 60 miles of land from private property owners.

This building is actually gorgeous but at the same time…..why such a short building on prime high rise property. This belongs in SouhEnd
It seems that most cities are building shorter towers these days, including even bigger metros like Dallas, Atlanta, etc. The consolation is that most cities aren’t building anything, and yet, Clt is building tons.

NC and SC should jointly build a heavy rail project like NY and Chicago have. If traffic/congestion weren’t a problem, vast areas south, east, and west of Charlotte could be developed. With the right infrastructure, Charlotte could equal (if not surpass) Atlanta.
The first line should run along 77 from Mooresville to Rock Hill.

think the total office space is like 560,000 sq ft.
I didn’t realize that it’s that much. Getting a 100k sf commitment might not be that easy right now. It would be a shame to hold up the hotel and apartment portion.
