  1. Like others have spoken, I'm not optimistic that the construction will begin within 5 months. We heard this tune last year that the hotel was supposed to began construction after August or late Fall. How many projects, blueprints, news reports have we all read about and seen on the local news about this and that downtown? Examples: Carroll South of the Ballpark { 6 Story Apartments & Hotel} around that parking deck near the Ballpark. Because of the City Council and Mayor, Roy Carroll aborted his plans to build the 20 & 12 Stories Skyscrapers . Or the planned 5 Story Apartment Building called the Lofts @ 110 MLK. Then the delay in tearing down the old News & Record Building. What about the 6,000 seat USL Stadium/Amphitheaters that was talked about? Then you had the Lidi Project fail, but then two different offers came in to build something else, like Single Apartments plans by the Out of State Company. What is the problem, why does they parade Zack Matheny on the News Stations like WFMY & WGHP to speak about all these grand plans for downtown then years past by and we still have nothing to show. That Westin Hotel should have been started. I understand Covid pushed things back. The more they wait, the higher the price for materials will go up, then the excuse will be, WE HAVE TO DOWNGRADE THESE PROJECTS!!! I am beyond frustrated with this City Council and Mayor. Durham, Raleigh, Charlotte, Columbia, SC & Greenville, SC, Norfolk, VA are building and have redeveloping their downtowns, while we slow foot it!
  2. I am very happy this happened, just for the same reasons you stated. Glad the state had the final word on this and not the Mayor and City Council. Because the Mayor made it clear she just wanted just Moses Cone in this city a few months ago. Moses Cone was also against it. Good!!!!
  3. I agree that that those buildings on that lot does need to be torn down and the land cleared ASAP!!!
  4. The City should have been tested and cleared that land and other lots that had been emptied for decades before this setback in that Downtown Area! East Greensboro can't catch a break when it comes to the soil being toxic or something compared to West Greensboro.
  5. This would be very good and help spur some flair to our Downtown.
  6. What happen to the plans for a Publix with the parking underneath near Mid Town?
  7. So it will be a 10 Story & 12 Story Buildings built by Mr. Carroll? Both will start in the Fall?
  8. It would be nice to have something close to this in our Downtown, really nice!
  9. I just read a small headline that Durham is planning to build a 27 & 12 Story Skyscrapers, they want to start around 2024 as well. They already have a 33 Story Skyscraper that are Condos. The 27 Story will hold 299 Condos as well. Wow!!!
  10. I just wish to see a urgency and manpower to start tearing down old rundown abandon buildings and witnessing cranes rolling in downtown. I just hope the City Officials will be a willing partner and work with the Planners vs. being a stick in the gear shifts and dampen these projects. Things move slow here vs Raleigh, Durham, Charlotte & Columbia, S.C. The Mayor said last week we are falling behind Raleigh, Cary & Charlotte, NO JOKE MAYOR, Glad you finally waking up and realize this {After 10 years}!
  11. Very bland, but it's Greensboro style. I have to see it to believe it. Tired of getting my hopes up for quick development in Greensboro vs Durham. Hope I'm wrong!!!
  12. Like Poo Diddy said we need new leadership in this city. Apparently the City Leadership is set in their ways and are stubborn in having a urgent need to get things up and running. The same folks for about 20 years doing the same thing, which is moving with baby steps when it comes to moving this city forward. It's like they love bland and no upscale vision on creating something exciting downtown to marvel at. When I see not only Charlotte & Raleigh, but Winston-Salem, Durham and Norfolk, VA, Knoxville, Tenn and Columbia, SC I see a Vision and Flavor!!! This aging City Council and Mayor needs to retire and allow some New Faces and Vision, people around 35-50 to have a chance. Greensboro to me is a Old Museum with Buildings that have been emptied and run down that needs to be torn down. I understand History, but keep some history, with the modern and mix it with the future. Build that Downtown up and stop being set in your ways. Durham and Raleigh, even Winston has areas that are that is really modern and has flavor.
  13. jthomas I understand what you are saying but, the only problem is this. When plans are made to rezone a area or a property owner wants to either build apartments/homes you have people rushing to the city council meetings with pitchforks and fire complaining how they don't want their quiet community disrupted. Trees torn down, Kids not having to walk to school or play in the grass/woods. More traffic, etc! We seen this happen here in Greensboro, High Point & Clemmons. Since the new Urban Beltways is almost done and businesses like Publix and Toyota will be around the Eastern & Southeastern regions of the county, I think they would build apts and homes near those places, restaurants and maybe retail stores will pop up near them. I can understand if the city annex to fill in eastern Greensboro to touch the beltways in that corner to capitalize on that new tax base. Just my thoughts right or wrong.
  14. I just wish the Greensboro Westin could be as creative like this one in Cleveland, at least make the parking deck not be so boring and bland.
  15. The new Moses Cone Day Hospital near Battleground Ave. and the N.C.A.T. Building on E. Market St & Dudley went up quick, what is it about Downtown GBO that is different? This city with downtown is special in a sad way when it comes to pace on projects. Slow, Slow, Slow!!! While other peer cities march right ahead.
  16. You're right about that, this has to be the blandest Westin Hotel design I ever seen.
  17. HRVT, I see where you coming from with the Norfolk, Va example. For a population of 245,000 that city downtown is nicely put together and well done. Very impressive, to bad our city don't have this type of planning or vision. Norfolk downtown looks very modern, urban and clean.
  18. Honestly, I am let down with this news. If I wasn't mistaken this hotel with the parking lot was going be 15-18 stories, with a 6 story parking deck with shops under it. Then it downsizes to 12 & 5, now 11 & 5. At the beginning of this project I was so excited for this project and the 20 story building Roy Carroll was planning. Thinking how Greensboro's Skyline was going to transform and grow. Every time I think Greensboro downtown is about to progress and match what a city of 300,000 plus should be, they {The City} all ways let us down with the plans. Why is it this city is so slow or having road blocks in this area? I know we are not Charlotte or Raleigh, but heck we can't even match Durham, at least they have a 28 story high rise building with apts. Winston-Salem skyline is still more larger than us and both cities populations are under us. What puzzles me is Greensboro population is almost equals to other cities like Orlando, Fla, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, St. Paul, Minn and Newark, NJ., but their skylines are way bigger and prettier than ours. It is many things I love about this city, but their are some things that make me rubbed my head about the red tape and road blocks this city place on developers. Not trying to be ugly or mean, but being honest and a bit let down over the revised plans and other things that got cancelled. You can tell I have a love for skylines, lol!!!
  19. Really nice & contemporary, love the concept. Are they apts or condos? I wished they could have gone up 5 stories and added elevators. Well anyways, the speed they put these up is awesome. I wish other developments in Gbo could move this fast.
  20. I see why Greensboro is always considered boring, lack vision. Everytime there are businesses or or something that will give Gbo a edge, you have the same people being a Debbie Downer about it. From development downtown or the shut down of Trader Joe a few years ago that ended up in Winston Salem. Some people didn't want the Tanger Performing Arts Center, some people bashed Fed X from coming or the Airport expansion, the Beltway. We could have had a Baseball Team over 20 years ago. Greensboro is a city over 300,000 inside a county of over 550,000. Not to mention how many folks commute from Danville, Martinsville, Va, Eden, Reidsville, Madison, and other surrounding cites or counties. Many realize there are needs to to keep up with city growing, a choices. However, we have some that just want trees, jogging paths and keep it like a Mayberry or Petticoat Junction. While Winston Salem, Charlotte, Cary, Durham, Raleigh, Matthews and other cites in the Tidewater area of VA......We have negative people wanting to stay put and not grow.
