Yes. The new hotel planned as well as The Walk on Union would accomplish that, but who knows if/when that will happen. It would be really nice if they could do a complete makeover for Robert Church Park to where it was actually used, something that would be appealing to walk through, gather.
  2. Details on Holiday Inn Express at Dermon building. Also, Ballard & Ballard building getting exterior upgrades. a basement level: mechanical systems, staff areas, a fitness center, and a meeting and business center, the ground floor: reception, dining area, kitchen, management offices, lounge and express market, meeting room and 1,500 square feet of leasable space, levels 2-9: one and two-bed hotel units, the rooftop: a common area overlooking the Mississippi River and Tom Lee Park. https://dailymemphian.com/section/businessreal-estate/article/41709/dermon-ballard-ballard-co-building-designs-approved

Article at Daily Memphian is titled “The Memphis Grizzlies have a game plan for downtown and Beale Street”. It’s a subscribers only, but this indicates the $550 million is not just for the inside of FEF.
  5. Chick-fil-A was approved for downtown near St Jude campus. Also, St Jude 2500 car parking garage was approved for the site that was previously the Memphis vehicle maintenance facility. I hope they keep the façade of maintenance facility. https://dailymemphian.com/section/foodfood-news/article/41380/downtown-memphis-chick-fil-a-alsac-st-jude-parking-garage
  6. Yeah, it's just like an isolated pocket of walkability, but at least it looks nice and is a definite improvement.
  7. $1.9 billion dollar EV plant announced in Marshall County, close to Memphis border. Will have 2,000 employees. Company(s) not announced yet, but rumored to be joint venture of Cummins/Daimler/Paccar. https://dailymemphian.com/section/suburbsnorth-mississippi/article/41178/mississippi-special-session-ev-battery-marshall-county
  8. We also need some statues around the arena . Those that we have retired their jerseys. A Z-bo statue. Soon to be Grindfather, Conley, and Gasol statues.
  9. Beautiful lobby, and great news. Has this building been empty? Would make a nice apartment/condo building too if the hotel thing doesn't work out.
  10. Clippers' Intuit Dome The Pacers didn't completely gut their seating. They did remove some boxes, and changed them around to other premium seating, amongst other things. They also tore down a parking garage in front of the arena, and are putting in a plaza. https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Journal/Issues/2022/10/17/In-Depth/Gainbridge-Fieldhouse.aspx $550 million is a lot, and it very well could include something outside of the arena on an adjacent lot.
  11. Correct, but there's always the possibility that a playoff run, or construction delays could complicate things. This could cause the relocation of part of the season. Most likely, would move games to Southaven. Also, could be a chance to play a game or two in Little Rock, or Nashville. The Tigers would likely just stick with the Landers Center, so fortunately, its close by. The off-season is a little over 6 months, if playoffs are not taken into consideration. If they do plan to gut the seating and completely rearrange it, it would require speedy construction.
  12. The Clippers will open their new arena next season at a price tag of $2 Billion. From what I've read, they plan to gut the interior of FEF and complete reconfigure the seating. Not sure what else is planned.
  13. I think the biggest issue was, when they built the arena, they did not put in enough lower level seating. Those are the premium seats, and they do not have enough. I think the are wanting to completely reconfigure the seating arrangement to increase lower level seating, and decrease upper level seating, which would help increase revenue, and would also increase chances of hosting NBA All-Star game, as Memphis is only one of 4 cities to never host.
  14. Downtown Little Rock Master Plan Survey. Within the survey, lists some of the ideas for downtown to rank. https://sasakistrategies.typeform.com/DTLRMPSurvey2?typeform-source=downtownlittlerockmasterplan.engage.sasaki.com
  15. Also said a “very high caliber local celebrity” will be involved with the project.
  16. And maybe tracks for light rail to West Memphis? interestingly, there is a pedestrian pathway on each side of the bridge. I never see anyone using it.
  17. Funny how they can purchase a parking garage that's sandwiched in-between ground floor lobby/restaurant and 3 levels of hotel. I guess hotel Indigo will continue to use the parking as well?
  18. Who knows if that will ever happen. I used to get Facebook ads about investing in that project. He's also got the new construction infil project in South Main and the rennovation existing with infil new construction on S Front next to Gus' projects planned.
  19. My worry is not that it won't get approved, but rather if the developer not being able to get financing/funding. This should be a big test for Intrator. He's gotten three smaller projects done, but this one is much larger, and if he can get this one done and make it successful, that gives more hope for anything becoming of his Pinch project.
  20. Dream Hotel is seeking 9-month extension. Said it’s not for financing, but for permitting delays - need Shelby County to approve abatement permit before demo can be approved. Need demo to be completed before work permit can be obtained. https://www.bizjournals.com/memphis/news/2023/12/08/dream-hotel-extension-permit-south-main-renovation.html
  21. BCBS adding sign to top of Commonwealth building. Are they moving out of their current building and downsizing to Commonwealth building? Also, MLGW is hitting pause on move to East Memphis at this time https://dailymemphian.com/section/neighborhoodsdowntown/article/40336/memphis-commonwealth-building-rooftop-sign
  22. $500k federal grant towards MEM-NASH-CHATT-ATL passenger rail connection https://dailymemphian.com/section/metrostate-government/article/40332/memphis-nashville-passenger-rail-atlanta-chattanooga-amtrak
  23. The Resident at 757 Court Ave will have 2400 sqft ground commercial and 45 apartment units. https://www.bizjournals.com/memphis/news/2023/12/04/developers-infill-project-modern-medical-district.html
  24. Apparently, airline companies can pay a Memphis company to dehydrate grass clippings and turds, compress them into blocks, and store them in a warehouse in Pine Bluff, and they will be forgiven for burning up jet fuel. Maybe Memphis can get more international flights if other countries can send their grass clippings and turds to Memphis to turn into bricks, Too bad they can’t build houses with the turd blocks. https://news.aa.com/news/news-details/2023/Graphyte-signs-first-carbon-removal-purchase-agreement-with-American-Airlines-CORP-OTH-11/default.aspx#:~:text=Memphis%2C TN %26 Fort Worth%2C,be delivered in early 2025.
  25. Premium article, don't have a subscription, but very surprising. Possible Memphis to Paris starting in 2025. The plan being discussed includes FedEx guaranteeing a set amount of Cargo. Memphis International neither confirmed nor denied a possible flight with Air France. https://dailymemphian.com/subscriber/article/40072/memphis-could-have-nonstop-to-paris-in-year-or-two?utm_source=trending_now&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=trending_now
