  1. I haven't forgotten about this and I'll be getting back with it in detail. But...some quick hits Yes, it should absolutely be used for the MIM BSMF. The Horde Tour back in the 90's didn't even use the Amp but the lawn area south of the Gulf. This could improved and enlarged with retaining walls. The "architecturally significant" covering isn't just for the rain but the sun as well. That comes into play for music fests Yes, their needs to be a southern pedestrian bridge but with a caveat, it can handle vehicle traffic for special events only. This would tie into increasing visitation and making access to cruise passengers easy. The issue is and will be the non compete with the Grizz on scaling up the Amp. We see their opposition to the MSC and Graceland Live. Thise are venues that would host shows that would never need 20k seats but the Grizz will scream half house set ups would be the option. Memphis ceded nearly 90% of the music touring acts ever summer with that clause as almost everything is geared to outdoor Amp venues. Southaven gains instead. That costs Memphis a ton of hotel rooms a year.
  2. It is a bit disingenuous that you can't put a good sized collect of ridge on Mud Island . Here are two examples from my photos of Tivoli one is another tower ride that offers two different ride experiences and bumper cars underneath the elevated loading platform. The other is an extreme flat ride called an air race by zamperla. Again, a raised loading platform with a concession area under it.
  3. The tallest in world requires an 86ft circle to operate: Technical Specifications Park Model Tower Height: 45 m, 74 m or 123 m (150 ft, 243 ft or 403 ft). The StarFlyer can come in any height, these are just some representative sizes. Portable Model Height: 54 m (117 ft) Footprint: 17 m (56 ft) circle; 400 ft StarFlyer is 25 m (82 ft) Instant Capacity: 24 or 32 riders Hourly Throughput: 480 pph Maximum Rotational Speed: 70 km/h (43 mph) Maximum Vertical Speed: 2.2 m/s (2.6 ft/s) Foundation Style: Foundation or Trailer-Mounted Ride Control System: Allen-Bradley PLC system Electrical Power Req: 130 or 150 kW Standards: Static calculations according to TUV, EN, ASTM and CSEI regulations Height Restriction: 1.1 m (44 in) Options: Canvas Sweep Covers LED Lighting Package Custom-Designed Top Here's the ride's web page. https://rideentertainment.com/tower-rides-starflyer/
  4. If just a Star Flyer where the Memphis Belle was. Its and improvement. A 300fft Star Flyer in that setting is a Wow Factor in addition to an Aquarium. This with the Bridges, River, Pyramid, Sky Line is a WoW! Copenhagen Vienna https://youtu.be/PajnNUoZOZo It also doesn't directly compete with the observation deck at the Pyramid as it adds thrill. Still do a big wheel if you must.
  5. The "extreme" compact coaster that either spins or doesn't . It's two in one Compact wooden coaster Flying theater
  6. It would be a small piece but no where near what is needed. Again, Strickland needs to get in a plane, fly to Copenhagen and take the train straight to the middle of town,.cross the street and he'll see his Mud Island solution. The US version of Tivoli Gardens. Main points: Signature Attrations: Aquarium, not Atlanta like but upper tier. In partnership with the Memphis Zoo ideally A collection of amusment rides styled in a coordinating color scheme done in a late 1800's steampunk Ironworks. A " Fly Over " Soarin' style ride attraction that features the whole of the Mississippi River from Itasca to the Gulf. A Star Flyer ride at about 300ft tall. It would offer amazing views of the Skyline and the River. A companion ferris wheel at around 150 to 200 ft. high. A compact steel extreme thrill coaster A compact wooden roller coaster Around a dozen' flats from kiddie to thrill (see Tivoli) Updated River Museum. Updated Amp with an architectural cover structure that does not impede the Skyline view of the concert goer. A European style Christmas Market with a show tree in the middle of the gulf. Ice rink as well along with the wholenpark decked out in lights. Updated River Walk More emphasis on botanical beauty
  7. I disagree, no one wants to drive through Memphis, This routes lots of through trucks out of the city., basically diverting I-55 traffic from going through Memphis. And...Arkansas would welcome all the sprawl(exonomic development) it can get quite frankly. At least one new bridge is woefully needed as the bridge closure made perfectly clear. Two would actually give Memphis a "for real" loop. All different perspectives I guess.
  8. I believe it is a SATURDAY Only nonstop. This is the sad world of Southwest Airlines these days. I would hold off on believing any Spirit plans at this point as it will take a year for the merger with JetBlue to either get approved or fall apart.
  9. Red- New southern bridge crossing to I-40 in Arkansas and I-69 in MS. Orange- extension to intermodal yard and Superproject site Yellow extention to I-55 and possible alignment of a second new northern bridge crossing to tie in I-69 /TN 389 for a complete I-269 loop.
  10. On I-530 to Monticello, might as well extend I-57 along this to Monticello. From there, upgrade US 425 to Monroe and then US 165 to Lake Charles. Boom... I-57 from Coast to Chicago. Cotton and Boozman want an interstate between Tulsa and XNA now. They'll get the US 412 bypass from I-49 to Tontitown and work on the Siloam Springs bypass. Then, I-49 to Sonora on the east side. You will see US 412 also upgraded from Huntsville to Harrison before major moves on I- 69.
  11. The I-69 Bridge is slated to cross much farther south than Tunica, even farther south than Helena. Arkansas will concentrate on I-49 between Ft. Smith and Texarkana before putting any real push on I-69. In fact, you'll see I-40 6 laned from LIT to MEM before any real work on I-69. Arkansas need to push extend I-57 to LA line along US 67. There needs to be two new bridges for the Memphis. Make use of what MS has built of I-69 and connect it with I-40 around Lehi AR , Run another spur up to the Intermodal facility on the Arkansas side and eve extent it up to around Jericho to Turrell for another crossing to tie into I-69/380 at Millington. This would route lots of through truck traffic out of Memphis proper. You could even use I-555 and a US 412 upgrade to extend I-22 to NWA and Tulsa. Screw an all new I-69 thru South Arkansas, just upgrade US 82 across it and use the fairly new bridge at Lake Village for I-69.
  12. Let's look at Delta like this. They announced MEM/BOS right before the pandemic. During the pandemic they continued to sell nonstop tickets only to repeatedly push back the start. After over a year of this, they finally stopped selling tickets. AA moved in and announced MEM/BOS service and it started a couple weeks back. Delta then reannounced MEM/BOS but it would not start till Oct of 22. They sold tickets for months, they cancelled the flight two weeks ago. AA now has the only MEM/BOS flight but not before Delta screwed others yet again. The lack of flights from LIT and XNA to SLC is mind boggling. They insist on the ATL backtrack to go west.
  13. I have always envisioned a House of Blues as part of a redevelopment of the New Daisy Theater as it's performance venue. The Sunday Live Gospel Brunch thing is perfect for the river cruising crowd.
  14. Pay the poster no mind. The poster performs the same act on the A.Net Civil Aviation forum under another name. All airports are going to report huge jumps in 2021 numbers when compared to Covid ravaged 2020. This is from the newest edition of MEM's newsletter that I got on the 25th via email... While the pandemic continues to impact the airport and airline industry, TSA checkpoint figures for 2021 showed a strong rebound from 2020. TSA at MEM screened 1,959,891 in 2021, an increase of 70.4% compared to 2020 and a decrease of 23.8% compared to 2019. Checkpoint numbers were even stronger during the final eight months of 2021, which was down only 16% compared to 2019. MEM finished on a positive note in December, with 189,405 employees and passengers screened. Now, I suspect 2022 will fall between 10% below to even to 2019 and 2023 will surpass 2019. I would not be shocked if at this time last year we were 1% to 2% over 2019 but not booking it. A good goal for Memphis would be about 3.25 million enplanments around 2030. About that time the Ford Plant will be in full swing and lots of current downtown projects done and in the books. Getting up in the mid 50s would be great.
  15. Spirit does have a plane or one in order that could do Transatlantic at their density. Frontier has the A321XLR on order and could possibly do Memphis to London in the typical summer season. It would struggle on the London to Memphis segment in winter. Frontier also has a European sibling in Wizz Air to partner with. Breeze's owner Neeleman wants a long range A220. Airbus hasn't made it yet. It could possibly do Memphis-Ireland/UK when it comes about. He has had his time at TAP Portugal and his ownership of Azul in Brazil opens up partnerships Outside of those, your best bet is British or soon to be sure leaving Star Alliance and entering One World Air Lingus particularly if AA keeps growing it's presence in Memphis aike adding RDU and AUS and their FF base in the process. Are Linus has the long range A321s and Dublin would offer up all kinds if connections, particularly if you don't mind using Ryan Air once there.
  16. BOS will be a blood bath, Delta would have kicked the can down the road again without AA entering. Someone will blink by early 2022. I was hoping that AA would have great success and JetBlue take it over in the their partnership with larger aircraft. I would not be shocked is AA added AUS, RDU and even TPA once the airlines gets the staffing issues lined out and business traffic picks up. LAX is now tricky with AA. It would take a mainline A319 or better. You have Delta on it except Saturday and Spirit is starting it out daily and then there's Allegiant. Allefiant has had tremendous success on MEM/LAX. It has consistently been one of their highest load performers over the past year. They have now increased it to daily as well starting in mid May till the end of the their current booking window. and that includes two days with two flights They have also done the same with LAS, daily with a couple of days seeing two flights. They be running a red eye to Memphis on Sunday and Wednesday nights and arriving at 5:15. They are also trying to fend off Spirit starting FLL by taking it daily during this time as well. And... I have to believe MEM has to be get Breeze soon. I can see them flying any of these with their A223s: SAN, OAK, SEA, TPA And these with their E -Jets: SAT, MSY, ORF, PIT, CHS, TPA They are talking a good game with 70 cities by 2024 https://simpleflying.com/breeze-airways-plans/ They have a good product, I've flown them out of XNA. Neeleman knows his stuff.
  17. It would make too much sense. Located between two major interstates with relatively easy access with high visibility. It would not be an All at once thing , done in stages.
  18. Your "Libertyland" should be a Tivoli Gardens like redevelopmemt/update of Mud Island. Imagine this experience, a Star Flyer, along the river and sky line.
  19. Southwest extended their Summer schedule last week. Bad for Memphis. TPA, ORD and PHC all moved to Saturday only. BWI does not fly this summer The single DAL flight is mid day and it's horrible for western connections. Southwest blames operational issues. That is code for the MAX 7 having not been certified by the FAA yet and this could be a partial summer schedule. Southwest should have been the one adding LAX and LAS daily from Memphis. No, Memphis will not be a hub but it could be a base for either Allegiant or Breeze(if they move in). I hope for Breeze. Their A223s are perfect to crank out West Coast flying. Theirbstated average A223 flight will be 1700 miles to maximize their potential in fuel burn. Check this map http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=Mem-san%2Fsea%2Foak%2Fbur%2Fpdx&MS=wls&DU=mi Couple that with their E jet destinations like TPA, MSY, CHS, ORF and whatever they add. I would like the end goal to be one of the LCCs grow enough to make MEM go ahead with the SW hall of B renovation so it can call it home. Now American has put some emphasis on Memphis. It singled it out as a potential growth city earlier this year when they added Sat only MCO service. With BOS, all that is left is LAX hubwise(JFK excluded) In a perfect world they would team up with One World partner Alaska and add SEA. I could see some point to point like Mem-AUS/RDU. Memphis is already on the cusp of being a focus city with them. The Cherry on Top would be seasonal British 3x a week to London.
  20. With AA calling DL's bluff on their Boston servic(DL keep delaying the start) will DL finally start it and battle AA or fold and concede AA now serves: BOS LGA(No JFK service for NYC) DCA PHL CLT MIA DFW ORD PHX All that's missing is LAX hub wise outside of NYC. Southwest did not bring back BWI in the latest schedule extention, basically conceding the DC area to AA Southwest now has MCO and TPA as Saturday only in peak summer. They are retreating and forcing connections via ATL. That opens up TPA for Breeze Need to land Breeze AA or their partner Alaska needs to start LAX and Alaska to add SEA and SFO and AA would have Memphis covered program wise.
  21. I can't get over the level of service to DCA by AA. This summer it's 4 times daily with the second MEM to DCA flight on an A320, the other three are E-175s. STL landed Luthhansa to Munich three times a week yesterday.
  22. It is indeed Spirit and to already served markets so it really doesn't add much in destinations MCO, LAX, Las Vegas Southwest did reduce MEM/MCO to Sat only with the latest schedule release. Frontier flys that and Allegaint serves nearby Sanford. This is ho hum and will be a blood bath till one blinks. Las Vegas and LAX have been huge Allegiant markets for Memphis recently, warranting daily service during certain times of the year at both. Frontier recent started LAS, I would have rather seen AA start LAX. This Spirit add doesn't really add much.
  23. Yes, Almost completely positive Breeze announces A220 flight in Jan. Said avg length would be 1700 miles. I can dream: http://www.gcmap.com/mapui?P=Mem-san%2Fbur%2Foak%2Fsea&MS=wls&DU=mi Outside chance it's B6 with three of BOS, MCO, FLL, JFK
