https://www.transit.dot.gov/ntd/ntd-data The FTA released their monthly update of transit ridership for August, the first month the southern expansion was open. Sunrail ridership increased 70% from ~80k to 135k, which is 5850 riders daily. I believe this exceeds official projections for the new stations which was ~1700 new riders, while this shows an increase of approximately 2300 new riders daily. A good start, but we need weekend and late night service and to get the northern and airport extension finished! Get 'er done Orlando!
  2. I like it, we need more development like this in between the CBD and Uptown so it becomes a continuous urban area, especially with the new pedestrian bridge on 50. I hope it doesn't get diminished in review because this would be the highest skyscraper in Orlando at 450'!
  3. The half of UCF that complains about them probably drive everywhere and complain about parking nonstop. Honestly, I don't even think people who drive should get a say in the matter, until we ban cars i'm fighting to keep dockless bikes in Orlando!
  4. Lake Underhill is two miles from Downtown, most definitely not the suburbs. There would probably be bikes in my apartment complex because so many people would use them to ride around Lake UnderHill, plus if no one else used them I could use the same bike every day by just dropping it outside my apartment. Dockless bike shares are part of the future of mobility, we must accept innovation, not be luddites that harm community members most in need by banning bikes that would help the transit dependent population in Orlando.
  5. Sounds like you're describing cars, which are a real hassle for cities. Dockless bikes are great for people who need them, i.e. myself. Orlando will never stop being car-dependent if we reject new technology for last mile trips. The docked bikeshare doesn't help me because their are no stations in Lake Underhill. Dockless bikes NOW!
  6. Idk how they thought to have a stop on Michigan st for this light rail, but didn’t think to put one in for Sunrail . The lack of stations between the Amtrak station and Sand Lake station is baffling considering the growth of SoDo and the enclosed nature of the Orlando Regional station. I want to get a petition going for an infill on Michigan, I think it would be a cost effective way to boost ridership.
  7. Thanks! I was going to share the image but got distracted. Imagine this line with 5-10 minute headway’s instead of Sunrail, Orlando would be in such a better place today if the leaders then had the vision to make it happen!
  8. http://ufdc.ufl.edu/UFE0024547/00001 This Master Thesis "RAIL TRANSIT AND COORDINATION IN ORLANDO IN THE 1990s AND 2000s" is a very informative read on the failed light rail proposal and has maps for the proposed line. I still think they should go thru with this segment tbh, maybe adjust slightly for some reduncies with SunRail.
  9. Lol that NIMBY complaining about potential construction next to his apartment in the news segment is wild , imaging living downtown next to the central transit station and wanting it to be a park when Lake Eola is mere blocks away, some people are so selfish, I hope the city does the right thing and approves it, although I wish it had less parking and more transit orientated features.

Funny thing about that station is there' actually a fence blocking access to the Plaza from the Sunrail station so a person would have to walk all the way to Orange and Osceola parkway to reach that plaza due to some property dispute between the Plaza and FDOT. I was looking forward to the visiting my GF at harbor freight often because its literally 100s of feet from the train station but apparently access to the plaza is heavily restricted, which doesn't make sense to me since it's literally the only thing in the area, things like this only stand in the way of ridership, several other passengers were equally perturbed and upset at the new placed fence, which was not present a few weeks before the train opened. I'm filing a complaint with FDOT, Sunrail Board, and the property owner because this dumb fence completely ruined my enthusiasm for the southern expansion.
