  1. This will make you cuss, VB use to have casinos at the beach back in the day. It wasnt till about the early 1930 or so, Virginia outlawed gambling and the casinos at the beach closed down before they could ever take off Alantic City style.
  2. I was going with a lower height because I figure the foot print of the building would be larger than the Granby tower's foot print. But you are right the possiblities are endless
  3. so you can figure two towers ranging between 15-25 stories, or 170 ft to 300ft (I wouldnt be suprised if a damn spire is put on top of one of them, I am hoping not though)
  4. Both cities need a few developments in theri downtowns for the middle class housing.
  5. they should have a tacky downtown in no time. I am happy to see so much need for urbanish activity around Pembroke. That area really was in need of a makeover.
  6. if Ptown is smart they will continue to ride Norfolk's coat tails and stick to building condo towers and housing projects with retail mixed in. When you think about it Ptown is just an expansion of Norfolk.
  7. suburban developers eyes. It looks like a suburban condo and townhouse complex. I see no blocks.
  8. that is a suburban person's idea of urban.
  9. I have always been fine with the name Pembroke for the area. It kind of reminds me of how Charlotte calls their downtown Uptown.
  10. when these projects realy start rolling, it is really gonna start looking like a vb downtown. So does anyone think they will adopt the name City Center for the area or continue skating around the idea of calling it anything like a downtown in fear of scaring of VB residents?
  11. my guess for 600 units that it would be a fat building. Dont expect anything over 15 stories, but it will be a wide building. Giving it some mass to the area.
  12. wow great shots. Norfolk seems to have gotten so much bigger since I left. cant wait to go back and visit in about a year from now. By the way, where were you at for the pictures from Ghent, cant think of any structures that high over there?
  13. Every time Seattle turns around one of their pro teams is demanding something new or they will move. Fisrt the Mariners, then the Seahawks, and now the Sonics are beotching. It becomes an annoying cycle. Pro teams look good for your typical person, but cities and states just have to pay alot of money, especially when the team is winning.
  14. Anything other than Pro teams, all they do is such money from the city. The only time the city really cares about a pro team is when they are doing good.
  15. Norfolk needs to support their minor leagues and college teams and spend the money on better things to attract people.
  16. old beach district?? what are the boundaries for that gonna be?
  17. "no soul" that will be VaBeach's downtown someday soon.
  18. I love Suffolk's downtown, it is definitally historic. On the other hand dont get me started on chesapeake and south norfolk. I personally think South Norfolk should of become its own city when it had a chance (before norfolk incorporated some of its land). During the depression, South Norfolk was the only town not affected by the great depression. Then Norfolk took a chunk of is land in the late fifties and what was left of South Norfolk decided to merge with Norfolk County (now called Chesapeake). Norfolk County in turned killed South Norfolk by locating all its public builds as far away from it and left South Norfolk to rot and become a ghetto, only now have they made any small efforts to rebuild South Norfolk. This is one of the root reasons why I have such strong hatred for Chesapeake.
  19. That is one of the reasons I had to move, I got tired of seeing missed chances for the cities to become something more. Glad to see some of the dreams coming true now though.
