Ok these pics are nice and all. I’m sure we’ve seen all of what there’s to see over that last few months. What I want to know is when for sure will this hotel open. Though I know Covid-19 is among us.
The hotel is opening August 5 regardless of COVID. The Starbucks is opening this week if I remember correctly. Some of the amenities and one of the hotel restaurants will not open with the hotel.

Am I the only one who doesn't see *that* much of an improvement? It really just seems like some existing buildings and parking lots will be torn down....and replaced by new buildings and parking lots. Don't get me wrong, the residential is good to see, but it just looks to me like a suburban campus of some sort.
The main benefit is that the new development will utilize the waterfront to it’s full potential rather than have the back of a shopping center fronting it. I’m not sure what phase 2 includes, but I’m assuming it will be some sort of town center style development where the existing parking lots currently are along with some parking decks.

So RTP has nearly the same amount of total office space as Uptown Charlotte? Isn’t Uptown like 25/26 Million SF?
Uptown has 28 million with about 5 million more planned/under construction.

I know it probably isn’t even close, but with a 1 million square foot addition, where does that put University Research Park in relation to RTP?
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI believe the RTP is around 7,000 acres with about 23 million square feet of office while URP is around 2,200 acres with over 10 million square feet of office (as of 2008, those are the only figures I could find).

How do we know Gucci is going at St. Johns. I see the permit, but I have no idea how to find suite/unit numbers in Southpark. It used to be on Simon website but now they don't list it. HELP haha

Gucci is Unit M19, Coach is Unit M21 (directly beside), lululemon is Unit M24, Palmetto Moon is Unit M26

They just closed their campuses in Denver and Miami and suggested that students transfer to Charlotte or Providence. While this is possibly good news for Charlotte in the short term, we do need to acknowledge that J&W is shaky in the current environment. Online culinary education seems like a tough nut to crack, particularly when the national restaurant scene is on life-support. A bad Fall and Spring for COVID could do J&W in.
Johnson & Wales offers more than culinary degrees. I really don’t think many people are aware they exist in Charlotte, or are under the impression they are exclusively a culinary school.

I believe The Art of Shaving has also permanently closed at SouthPark. In other news, it looked like work was going on in the former St John space which gives me hope Gucci is still planning to open there. The new St John is still under construction.

Does the Boardwalk redevelopment have a start date? Looks like Michael's is moving out and across the street.

Slightly off topic, but are the pedestrian signals being moved off of the traffic signal supports? It bothers my OCD that those new supports don't match the lights and traffic signal colors.

This is of course a huge win for NC and Charlotte, but the University City area and UNCC specifically will benefit from this the most. An announcement of this size is the type to cause a ripple effect.

I honestly can't see anyone really utilizing both lines ever. As it is currently built and managed, the Blue line really is just a commuter train. With 20 minute headways, slow trains and station procedures, frequent delays, and no real-time tracking; it's just a pain to try and plan excursions using the light rail, and I say that as a 1 car family that lives near the Blue line. It takes my wife and I 40 minutes and $4.40 to go 2 miles to South End from NoDa instead of a $12 Uber in 10 minutes. Even if the Silver line went straight to the terminal instead of to another people mover, I'm still not taking 2 trains and most likely an hour in order to save $10-15, I already have that option with the Sprinter bus at CTC. It already takes 35 minutes to get to Uptown for commuters from the I485 stop, do we really think commuters from Matthews are going to do that, transfer trains and then ride another 10+ minutes and walk to their office instead of driving? The low-income option still remains our bus system, since there really aren't many affordable areas where you could still access the lightrail.
Well yeah... that’s what light rail is. It isn’t a metro system and shouldn’t be expected to act as one. I would much rather take a 30 minute ride for less than 5 dollars than spend the same amount of time adding to already congested traffic and/or paying $25-$30 to use a ride share.
I also think your 40 minutes for 2 miles statement is exaggerated and doesn’t reflect the overall accuracy of times, as it has never taken me even half of that amount of time to travel the same stops.

I’ve started using BCycle ever since Spin and Lime pulled their bikes. The scooters are too expensive IMO. Plus I like the exercise in riding bikes.

In a recent interview, the GM and VP of Carowinds hinted at the park changing to year-round operations in the future. That would give Carowinds an advantage over nearby parks such as Dollywood, who operate on a seasonal schedule. She also once again alludes to Carowinds becoming the Cedar Point of the South, and wants more on property hotels and retail offerings.

Cooper pissing Trump off to the extent he moves the RNC would be the best thing to come out of this year thus far.
