I just wish they would put some sort of sculpture or statue in the middle for once, but I'm sure some manual insists on road signs being needed in abundance in the middle instead, and that the sight lines are 100% clear of "distractions".
I would think this is possible if they really wanted. Google streetview isn't up to date, but here is a newish roundabout in Zeeland with a town sign and landscaping in the center. It's tall enough that you cannot see over it.

Meanwhile, the fencing just went up this week for the redevelopment of the Sligh Furniture building downtown Zeeland. Will also be apartments. City is vacating the street next to the project as it's not needed and very close to the building. (sadly, the long time restaurant in the background burned to the ground this week...)

Nevermind. Looks like the idea was just shelved a couple weeks ago

I like this project but those buildings are so "pedestrian" and I don't mean that in a good way. Looks like apartments on Alpine Avenue.
I agree that these look out of place. I would go with more of a wharf warehouse look with a slight nod to Dutch architecture. Similar to the market buildings in Boston.

Another rendering of the Holland waterfront proposal.

I'm confused. How can that be the South elevation of this building:
My guess is that this portion of the building is going to be demo'd. If you look at the East view it stops at this point.

Since they're looking for crazy ideas: Holland is looking for a use for the old waterfront powerplant site. Then you could justify a frequent rail service between the lakeshore and downtown GR as the rail line goes right to the waterfront at Padnos.
***I do not think this is an actual solution and would prefer downtown GR as well...

Looks like maybe this beam was headed to Manistee for the new M55 bridge?

Lakeshore Beer:
Big Lake already has a great building and cool patio area if you haven't been. Looks like the patio needs to go vertical to accommodate more patrons.

First quarter 2021 rental vacancy rates are out and we're at a startling 1.7%, putting us as the lowest in the country for MSA's.
Don't recall if Holland is in the GR MSA, but thought this was interesting... Not sure what to make of it. There are apartment complexes going up all over the place here on the Lakeshore.
Is Holland Township expanding too quickly? Board mulls moratorium on large-scale housing development

The name is still not really catchy. Maybe even less. But the facility now has casino money backing it, so that makes it worth it.
Put some nickel slots in and my mom would basically live there. LOL!
Could also have gone with Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Concert Hall...
Gun Lake Casino is owned and operated by the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians (Gun Lake Tribe).

5 Lakes Brewing in Dorr is moving to Tanger Outlets. Seems like a great move for them for foot traffic and exposure. Article also mentions a creation of an outdoor entertainment area at Tanger. Anyone have a report on their beer?

I talked to them maybe 12 - 13 years ago and they had no interest in selling. IIRC.
But now they could sell for 12 - 13 times more than when you talked to them

Was hoping this article was going to say they were able to acquire the Formax building to lock up the entire block. Looks like it could be converted into some nice lofts.

I wonder what is making them lean towards razing this part of the building?
