  1. I live in the West End Park neighborhood and have a general question regarding the recent uptick in development that I'm hoping one of you gurus can answer. Several years ago, an Urban Design Overlay document for the area was drafted, and I am fond of many of the ideas discussed in it. It seems, however, that this document has done absolutely nothing with respect to recent additions - The West End Village apartment complex on the corner of Long and 31st, for example, has no mixed use square footage even though that parcel is explicitly mentioned as ideal for that use. It seems the Metro Planning Commission has to provide approval for deviations from the rules laid out in the Overlay, but what recourse do I, as a resident, have when they blindly approve these changes? Thanks for any thoughts you can offer.
  2. Yeah, I remember you mentioning a couple of others, but hadn't heard about this one - may have been one of the ones you mentioned that were not public yet. 3137 Long is 3 doors north from where Mason intersects Long. (They just tore down the building on the corner of Mason and Long.)
  3. I recently learned that the house located at 3137 Long Blvd in West End Park will be torn down for condos. Anybody have any information on that development?
  4. I agree completely. Also there is a weird mix of residential and office space, with few (good) restaurants and no real retail. The Urban Design Overlay was supposed to address some of the inconsistency, but from what I can tell, it may as well have been written on toilet paper. The developers are not being held to the letter, or even spirit, of that document.
  5. Thanks! I should have taken a photo this morning. I've always hated that ugly white building, so will be good to see it go. It seems the area is finally starting to realize its potential, but I would love to see some ground level retail...perhaps along 31st between Long and Parthenon where the dilapidated apartments are.
  6. Demo has started on the two houses occupying the space that will become the Split Rock Townhomes on Avoca in West End park.
