  1. The Presidential election results mirrors the feelings of conservatives nationwide. The next 4 years will be their last harrah because it's no way Trump fullfill his promises without raising taxes. Perhaps Trump will pro-development with his business background. It would be hilarious to see conservatives attacking Trump when a new Trump hotel and Casino goes up at the Oceanfront. Add legalized weed and watch conservatives go nuts. Seriously though, as much as we love skyscrapers and such, we have to hope racial issues do not tear our country apart. The recent headlines of racial violence snd threats of violence supercedes all and has the potential to destroy what little advances every city nationwide has accomplished.
  2. I actually moved from Norfolk to Seattle last November. I love Hampton Roads hut I'm afraid that the minority of conservatives has most of the power in the region. Politics aside, Hampton Roads would better served as a single government entit
  3. It looks like there were plans for a 20 story tower as part of this development; however, Smigel and other members of city council are not in favor of it! These clowns are the reason we will never have a great downtown.
  4. How many feet tall do you guys think this is? The floors appear to be tall which makes the building looks around 500 feet tall.
  5. I live in Norfolk but this is exciting news as I travel to and through Richmond quite often.
  6. Carolinaboy, I really like your proposals. I see so much potential for downtown and a lot of your ideas would elevate Norfolk big-time. It would be awesome if Portsmouth would build a couple towers on that side of the water to compliment your ideas for Norfolk.
  7. I wish we could teleport all of them back to 1776. I bet 99 percent of them would throw away their guns and run in a heart beat if they had to really bleed for this country. The mentality of the tea-party members is baffling because almost everything they stand for is "un-American" in nature.
  8. I totally disagree with you here! I recently took a Greyhound trip to Pittsburgh and there were quite a few passengers waiting on several buses there. I can understand what you are saying about it being cheap and all; nonetheless, that property is way too valuable and will eventually be served notice to renovate or move. Besides, I would think that Greyhound would do much better if they were part of an transportation hub and would be viewed more positively by more people. The cost of Greyhound travel is still quite a bargain for 2015. Please don't get me wrong here, I love Amtrak also and do most of my travel this way instead of driving. The price of Amtrak is a bit steeper and the room prices are ridiculously high most of the time. Greyhound gets you to your destination a bit faster when going on long trips even including the layovers. Your butt may be a little worn out from all the sitting; nonetheless, it is a great way to meet people on the plus side. I honestly don't know how much Greyhound would have to pay to occupy space in a new Union Station type development for Amtrak, Light-Rail, and Greyhound but it offers them a chance to to promote something new and even an expanded with a restaurant service once again. Finally, perhaps Greyhound would qualify for state funding just like Amtrak since it serves as a mode of mass transportation in our region.
  9. I think the new arena will be a favorite for some regional NCAA men's and women's basketball tournament games. Once built, we should actually bid to host the women's NCAA final 4. With ODU's history and the region's reputation for supporting women's basketball, this should be a no-brainer. I also think that a new arena would open up the possibility for us hosting the ACC tournament. The beach setting has to be a little appealing to fans of the ACC and the location is prime as we are located near most of the cities and towns that the teams are from. If we work out our transportation issues before hand, we will be a serious player I believe. If not the ACC, I am sure the CUSA will be itching to play in a location outside of Birmingham. Finally, the addition of the arena will also benefit TownCenter and downtown Norfolk too. If we somehow attract an NBA to the beach, there will be the need for even more hotels because the NBA players, coaches, executives, and some exclusive fans will demand higher-end hotels to stay in. Also, we can expect to see some million dollar neighborhoods developed which is uncommon for this region.
  10. I think that Greyhound seems to get lost in all the transportation talks in the city. The terminal is old and in need of renovation if they plan on keeping it open. It would make sense to include them in any talks of a transportation hub in the city. Finally, this property is a prime location for development. Couple this property with the old golden triangle property and you have some fantastic options to expand downtown.
  11. I wish the city could evict PETA and offer that land to a developer.
  12. Is Beau Rivage really going to happen? This area is starting to remind me of VB TownCenter. It would be awesome to have a downtown and a mid-town with lots of high-rises. Downtown needs a real signature tower in the lot across from the courts complex. Add a few waterfront projects near Harbor Park along with the current developments and the St. Paul Quardrant and you have the making for a dynamic downtown. Finally, is it possible for the city to renegotiate with the government to reclaim the former Granby Tower land? It is a shame that this land will sit idle for another decade or indefinitely because of government cuts. We can offer them a chance to expand in our new courts complex which makes all the sense in the world. Perhaps Buddy is now in a better position financially to make his Granby Tower a reality. I can see a building boom happening in the next couple years and maybe some of those previous proposals can be revisited. I would love to see the River's Edge developments back on the drawing board along with the Brambleton Tower. A 40 plus story signature tower and another 30 plus story mixed use tower downtown along with everything else will make me a very happy person. Oh yeah, if Portsmouth can get in on the action and build a couple towers on that side of the water, we will have a downtown second to none.
  13. This looks to be like one of the tallest building in Norfolk.
