Glad you brought this up, and yes it can become a very interesting and hot topic quickly! Because there’s no way that certain politics can’t be ignored. With that said, I agree with you that there’s an injustice being committed and in all seriousness needs to be addressed. In all likelihood, it will get swept under the rug by some account and go down as planned.
Personally I don’t see the injustice by placing the affordable homes here. No one has a right to live in the area they want and get a fat discount at the same time. I am all for affordable housing like every other decent person, but I don’t think developers should carve out the best portions of developments for it

Huh? I was referring to my opinion that diluting the venue density there would do little good and great harm there to what visitors want. I see no problem with "corporate" venues there except ones like the silly proposal for a boring pharmacy there years ago. I think a circus is EXACTLY what makes the area from 5th to the river attractive to so many. Not me particularly, as I lean toward classical and opera, but I just think "character" or "diversity" is not exctly the goal there. However, the new 5th and Broadway complex I think has added a great deal of diversity and vitality to the area. I seldom care to criticise such obvious success.
I’m all for the circus growing, I agree that’s drawing in more people. Not sure if you agree or not, but it’s not the names of the artists on the signage that bringing the people in. That’s what I think is silly. More power to those peacocks, but their names on the buildings is not the reason for the obvious success.

Well I remember when most of them were filled with dusty storage or old furniture or completely vacant. Second Avenue buildings had dirt or old plank floors. They were warehouses. This isn't Paris or London. The street is occupied for one principal reason...to have a good time. People who party there don't give a crap for trendy shops or crystal shops or such. There is a very small area that is the place where people come from all over the world to visit. I welcome the absence of pawnshops and peepshows. Y'all don't realize how good we have it.
Just because someone doesn’t like the corporate feel of these artist branded bars doesn’t mean they don’t realize how good of a thing Nashville has. I don’t necessarily mind this branding these artists are trying for, but it is a tad silly. It’s possible to enjoy not having peep shows on broad and not like the fact that these bars are doing what they’re doing at the same time

This sickens me to know they are not allowing for bonus height. Other than emailing our city council person is there anything else I can do to help our opinions be known? We get one chance to do this right, and we need density in the core!

The existing facility seats 2472, so the new facility will be the same size essentially. Kind of a bummer

There is a link on the cover of ESPN that discusses MLB expansion. It’s behind a pay wall so I can’t read it, but it seems to have some good info.

Love those arch windows at the top of the building! I hope this is true

Does anybody know the other five tax increase options beyond sales tax? IIRC the sales tax increase was one of the big attack points of the last referendum (anyone else remember "No Tax for Tracks"?) and it had two separate increases that went up to 10% (?) total?
I’m wondering the same. Maybe impact fees for business, gas tax, property tax. Maybe they could hit on the corporate tax. I think I’d prefer sales tax as the way to generate $$ for transit, maybe the gas tax also.

Did Tony actually have approvals to go beyond the FAA ceiling? The next step for that, did he have an insurance provider willing to insure the building if/when he went past the FAA ceiling?
I was always under the assumption that you can build as tall as you want, if codes allowed it. The problem would then be the insurance on the building, if it’s not approved by the FAA your insurance is outrageous. I could be very wrong.

Gotta disagree with you there. There are some people that I know that get their work done well at their house. I also have friends that touch their laptops every few minutes just to signify to their company that they are working. Not every work from home job is the same And productivity has absolutely faltered some

Holy cow yes absolutely. I was reading National life but my brain was thinking the L&C. I think I’m getting to the age where I need a good cup of coffee before I start communicating with the rest of the world lol.

Hmmmm....every source I find says that National Life (now the Snodgrass Tower) opened in 1970. So that's the one that I list for the 70s.
https://www.skyscrapercenter.com/building/william-r-snodgrass-tennessee-tower/11560The Snodgrass building is not the L&C building. Although I’m no help on when these babies were built. Here is a pic of the snodgrass tower

David McCutcheon, vice president and head of IPB Properties told The Tennessean the South Phase of the project will begin construction in the fourth quarter of this year.
"The South Phase will be a single-point tower with approximately 500 units that will average around 750 square feet," he said. "There will be a mix of studios, one- and two-bedrooms as well as three-bedroom townhouses and penthouses on the 44th floor. The 45th floor will house our rooftop amenity."
Love that last sentence!! 45 floors is an upgrade if I’m not mistaken

That is correct. I do like that space as a bar, especially one that already has an established name. This is going to hurt Bar Louie, which it should because that place sux

Sounds like a done deal to me. There can be no more amendments to the deal and 25 members are for it.

Should be some more news on this later today. Another transaction
So would this be a good or bad thing in terms of this getting built anytime soon? Or indifferent? Thanks for the info!!

The fact that Tony has already torn down half of the YMCA tells me this is getting built

I thought there was code downtown that required a certain amount of bottom floor retail. Does that just not exist? Or are there east workarounds?
