It's technically a reduction from present.

Delta currently utilizes 9 gates; A1, A3, A5, A7, A9, A10, A11, A12, A13. Granted, I don't know if all of those gates are directly controlled by Delta or if some are city-controlled and common use.

    Correct, Delta controls gates A1, A3, A5, A7, A9, A11, and A13.

As mentioned above, gates A10/A12 are common use gates. Contour Airlines usually has 4 flights a day that go out of A10. AA schedules about 4 to 6 flights a day on A12.  Typically DL will always park planes overnight on A10/12 that go out the following morning.

CLT-LAS is an interesting one. I don't think they have ever had widebody service from CLT.

So we will be seeing: 1x MIA, 1x LAS, 1x LAX, and then a Sun/Wed/Fri flight to LHR. I wouldn't be surprised though to see the LHR service suspended once more due to the new UK Lockdown. I've heard loads for the service were pretty abysmal, although closer-in bookings seem to be better.

    DFW-MCO gets a whopping 4x 77Ws/daily during December.

CLT-LAS saw a daily A333 earlier this year.

Going past the 777 at D11 right now. I can’t seem to figure out what they are doing with it. The plane’s power is on (the navigational lights on the wings were blinking) and it is connected to the ground power unit.

There were some cargo equipment parked next to it, maybe they were practicing loading/unloading cargo containers?

To my knowledge, they have been doing a lot of ground familiarization with the 777. They had it on a couple B/D gates a few weeks ago. I got some really nice pictures of it on D12/D10 and one when it was going down 5/23.

It also did some laps on RWY 5/23 about two weeks ago.

It appears the 772 is having a splendid time before it resumes service in a few months lol.

I flew it twice last summer and it was a -300 (and it was full).

CLT-DUB saw a lot of substitutions last summer. Regardless, it was operated on the -200 for the majority of the season. Same goes for MAD/CDG/FRA/MUC. All saw the -300 from time to time as well.

N404AN, an AA A321NEO, arrived at CLT on a flight from PHX on Wednesday. I believe this is the first time a NEO has visited Charlotte. It is still hanging out on the ramp with the B772 that showed up here a couple weeks ago.

Edit: Thanks for the correction JetBlueCLT! Indeed the A321NEO has been flying through CLT since at least mid March. For example, N402AN on 3/16; N401AN on 4/4 and 4/5; N400AN on 4/10; N403AN on 4/6, 4/7, 4/22, and 4/23; and more. Didn't realize they had been around here so much.

No problem, sorry for the late response. I've been caught up with final exams. Pretty neat though, I've seen a lot of NEOs sneak in since I got back to Charlotte.  Saw 400AN come in today and it looks to be operating LAX-CLT-LAX for the next few days. Hope this trend continues post COVID.

I'm doubtful any flights to Europe from CLT will resume by May 18. The executive orders barring travelers from Europe are still in effect. Those orders also require US residents to return to the US via one of several approved airports and CLT is not one of them. Even if those orders are lifted I can't imagine CLT would be in Lufthansa's initial batch of resumptions. Demand for flights is non-existent. I imagine Lufthansa would start with a handful of flights to major markets and United hubs so that they can consolidate US bound passengers onto as few flights as possible and let United take them the rest of the way. If AA does indeed resume the route this summer and remains committed to it, it might well be the end of Lufthansa here at least for the next couple years.

Wow, good catch! B777 and B787 are the only widebodies AA is operating right now so if there was any need for cargo capacity to CLT it would have to be one of those fleets. But I do think it's likely that the A330 has flown its last flights for AA and will not be part of the fleet post COVID. B772 would be the logical aircraft for LHR once those flights resume.

Thanks! I stopped by this morning but didn't bring my camera. I'll go out later and get a picture of it.

What does this mean for LH MUC-CLT connection? Still slated to return 5/18?

I don't know the logistics for LH long haul network but one could imagine the negative impacts of losing 17 long haul aircraft could have. I would go off a limb and say that May 18th date isn't going to happen with the A346s being parked. One could speculate that LH could move some A330s back to MUC which would suit the MUC-CLT a lot better. According to wiki LH still has 27 A359s that are scheduled for delivery through 2027. Theres also those 20 789 order that is to be split between Lufthansa, Austrian and Swiss. Keep in mind that those 20 789s are TBD on how many each of the 3 airlines are getting.

We will see how strong LH/BMW ties are to the Charlotte area and any other German connections between the 2 cities.

It looks like LH is showing CLT-MUC tentatively resuming on 4 May with a A346. I find that to be extremely optimistic and wouldn't be surprised if that gets pushed back and/or down-gauged.

It appears the new date is now May 18th for LH( A346). Hope it sticks

  9. I've been back home in Charlotte for about a week now. Made a few trips to the airport to watch and take pictures of some planes. What weird times we live in with all that is happening around the world. Sad to see how much COVID-19 has impacted CLT and all airports/airlines around the world. When I left for Grand Forks in January, I never thought I would be back on these terms and see such a desolate airport.

    Stay safe everyone!

  10. JetBlue has updated its joke of a flight schedule.(Finally lol) Starting 11/5 they will finally RON a plane. Modified time leaves CLT at 0730. Early January it will leave at 0600.

In summary. NOV schedule has flights departing CLT with the following time: 730am, 1052am, 306pm, 759pm, and 10pm. (Not a fan of the 10pm)

Starting in early JAN the flight schedule has the following: 6am, 1043am, 1222pm, 458pm, and 8pm.

Also to point out, I have found random days that show 6 flights on BOS-CLT. Not sure if thats a error or not. I do predict the route will see 6 daily at some point. Hopefully they can deter DL from starting CLT-BOS which seems inevitable once DL gets more room here.

  11. B6 has the following departure schedule from RDU: 6am, 7am, 848am, 1000am, 1147am, 3pm, 524pm, 626pm, 721pm, and 848pm.  In summary, 6 BOS, 2 JFK, 2 FLL.

All done out of one gate(C10).  I'm not sure where you heard that they were "chomping at the bit" for more gates. Its far from that.

CLT on the other hand has the following: 949am, 1058am, 405pm, 803pm, and 942pm. 3 BOS and 2 JFK. A22 sits empty from 5am-9am, 11-315, 410-7pm. Poorly utilized.

Even after JFK ends in October, the flight schedule is a mess. Earliest flight is 9am. It amazes me how bad the schedule is even with 5 flights a day on ONE route. Heck, MSP  might only have 3 flights on B6 but at least they have a 530am departure out of Minny.
