Vanderbilt Children's Hospital expansion (4 stories on top of existing 8) update.  2nd crane now down, cladding nearly complete.

Looking west from 21st Ave. South, just north of intersection with Children's Way:

This has to be one of the ugliest children's hospitals in the nation.  The bottom portion looks like a prison and the top looks like they couldn't decide what to do.  Doesn't go at all with the rest or most of the VU campus architecture.

  2. Agree with MLBrumby that both United and American have provided the worst service, attitude, etc. that I have experienced over the past several years.  I fly a lot and both United and American are pathetic, connections way to close to be realistic, gate agents that are rude, don't care, seem to have no training.  Both of these need to study European airlines like KLM, SAS, Air France to name a few.

  3. Lee belongs to a very conservative church that is very far right in beliefs, so don't be surprised if he backs this or at least doesn't confront the rural nuts who seem to dominate our legislature.  They seem to especially love to stick it to Nashville.

Most of the graffiti has been removed and general sprucing up of exterior of the one time car dealership building that takes up most of the block between Church St. and Hayes St. along 16th Ave. North.  Perhaps it is getting prepped for a purchase?  Great old 1 & 2 story masonry structure that could serve many purposes once the Broadwest is completed (caddy corner to the SW), along with other redevelopment in that neighborhood.

This is owned by the Reed family and I understand that they are not interested in selling but might consider a long term lease of some type.

  5. Just returned from trips through Miami and Washington Reagan and there did appear to be some slower issues with connections, mostly due to the Air Traffic Controller issues in the Northeast.  There were no issues in Nashville, but again the terminal appeared to be extremely busy and all of the flights to and from Nashville were totally full  with a long list of standbys.  I now also think we were lucky to NOT have an American Airlines hub as their routings/connections are poorly organized and we saw delays twice related to their own staffing, pilots and support personnel having to be pulled because of too many hours.....how can that happen?  They also have some VERY short windows for connections that make no sense especially in Miami where going from one concourse to another can take an extremely long time with no moving sidewalks, at least between D and E.

That video is utterly embarrassing. I'm always surprised how people with means are so often such cliches... even what they say. Did they do this as an obligation to the NRA, or did they actually want to do this?  I'd decline with prejudice (lol)... and I'm an NRA member!  I know very little about the Beaman family. Always knew they were worth hundreds of millions from their bottling and auto interests and I vague recall an earlier divorce or estate fight back when I lived in Nashville. So my question about the first Mrs. Beaman... did she pass away. The two daughters speak as though only their father was caring for them when he met this woman.

I understand this is the fourth marriage, so much for the family values the video seems to focus on.  Of course he was a big supporter of Roy Moore in Alabama.

  7. I agree that this is  a quality development and shows you can have it if you set standards and don't simply loosen the standards to appease big developers.  Green Hills, like most of the city, is being inundated with two tall skinnys on what was formally a lot for one home.  In almost every case, they have to dig across the street to connect for utilities and NEVER fix the street back to what it was.  Why are they allowed to get away with this?

I wanted her to resign because she was a distraction and behaved unethically. But I think you should look at some of you other electoral choices and ask yourself if you are holding them to the same standard.

At some point doesn’t this corporate welfare need to stop?

AMEN! Which is why, when you vote for state legislature, make sure to vote for individuals who aren't harsh towards Nashville.

Next year's budget will be higher. One lean year and then back to normal. Reappraisals need to be done better next time. It is important to vote in these smaller elections for positions(property assessor) that no one really cares about for this exact reason.

  9. Mayor Briley is moving toward a project that will do what several of you have stated, focus on one area and make that work before expanding.  He mentioned that a project on Dickerson  Rd. would be a  rapid bus line with additional incentives for businesses and residential to build on/ near the line.  It will also be within the current time budget or at least not start with any new taxes.  Also discussion of the busses being able to control the traffic lights and hopefully in places where it could be done, dedicated lanes

  10. Agree on many of these comments.  My main issue is the increasing number offering small plates at prices in the $14-20 range which is too high for very small quantities.  The concept is good in that you should be able to sample a number of things and still come out around what a normal entrée would be but most of these you can't as you end up with a $40 bill for one without drinks.  A couple does it well, Americano's on West End has small plates as does Barcelona in Edgehill.  I do disagree about Silo, I have had mostly positive experiences except the extra charge for blue cheese olives for a martini.

Couldn't agree more, it seems that almost everyone that challenged the assessment won the challenge and their assessments were lowered substantially.  I have no idea how or who allowed this, but it needs to be looked into and someone held accountable.   We do also need to STOP the payments to former council members who lobby, Jerry Maynard for General Hospital for one.

  12. Just spent the weekend in Charlotte for my first visit and was very impressed.  The B of A and Duke power buildings are impressive in architectural style and height, much more so than any of our talls.  I don't like bashing our architecture like many do, but have to say we are significantly behind Charlotte.  The condos and apartments downtown or Uptown as they call it are also sharper and vary more than ours.  Their NFL stadium has brick and glass and has significantly more curb appeal than NIssan Stadium and is right downtown as is their relatively new AAA baseball park, which does look similar to First Tennessee Park here.  I love Nashville, but hate to admit that we are behind Charlotte and don't even get me started on how beautiful their high end mall is called South Park....all brick, heavily landscaped and has a very upscale consistent look, couldn't find one bill board like we have in GH.
