  1. I know this is way off topic, but I was in Dublin two years ago for St. Patrick
  2. That's a great signature picture, Zissou.
  3. I keep hearing about how terrible it was in the 80
  4. They used to run the Dodge fountain in the winter. As water would spray out of the ring, the mist would freeze in mid air and the light would reflect off the ice crystals. It was gorgeous.
  5. This is the one east of the Medusa silo. The silo closest to downtown (west of Medusa) is already gone.
  6. Well Jason, you do have a point. That's why I said "most" people. But the city has been trying to get rid of those silos for as long as I can remember, and that's a long time.
  7. Here's a demolition that most people don
  8. I guess there's more to worry about then having your car broken into when you park on the streets of Detroit. Streetlight Crashes Onto Parked Cars I'm wondering if that's a parking ticket on the first car. I wouldn't be surprised if parking enforcement wrote a ticket after the pole fell.
  9. Nice picture Zissou. Ya know, I recognize the top of the Comerica building and the building on the left vaguely resembles the Penobscot building but do any of the other buildings in this silhouette look like any buildings found in Detroit? I mean, shouldn
  10. I was wondering, when they put a sign up on the Marriott hotel such as the one pictured, does it affect the light in the rooms behind those windows?
  11. Thanks Baldy. That makes sense. What was the story with that trolley anyway? It was very popular when it first opened. No one expected it to be a viable transportation option or to pay for pay for itself. It was meant to be a bit of a tourist attraction. Is it that we get so few tourists that it run empty all the time? Or was it like so many other things in Detroit? It just broke down and nobody could fix it.
  12. Does anyone know what the ramp in the lower right corner was built for? One would think it was for handicap access but access to what?
  13. What a stupid waste of money! Like the city or the state has the tens of thousands of dollars it will take to change the signs. What next, change I-94 to the Kwame Kilpatrick Freeway?
  14. I am saddened that the board administration chose to delete Mike77
  15. I don't think Mariucci was the problem. The person they really needed to get rid of was Matt Millen! But since he's just received a five year extension on his contract we can expect at least five more years of humiliation.
  16. That is really an awesome picture Tapezoid. Here's an old picture showing its location. Does anyone know what year the fort street station closed and what year it was demolished? I remember exploring the station when I was in my late teens or early twenties (some thirty years ago). As I recall it wasn't as ornate as the MCS but it was in much better shape. Since it was much closer in town it would have serviced the downtown area much better. It's too bad it was replaced by the nondescript downtown campus of Wayne County Community College.
  17. I looked at my "board settings" and the "auto correct DST" box was already checked and the time was set to Eastern time zone. I unchecked "auto correct DST" and unchecked the "DST is in effect" box and that corrected the problem. Thanks. I agree with you about the new format. It is a mess! I was unaware the Free Press was charging for articles older than a week. What makes them think that old news is worth more then new news is beyond me? I didn't mean to suggest that you update the links. I only mentioned it in case somebody was wondering why there were so many broken links. Thanks again Allan.
  18. There are a couple of technical issues I wanted to mention. The clock that logs the time of a post is still on daylight savings time, and it is becoming annoying. Might someone fix that please? In addition, both the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press have redesigned their web sites. Any links to articles in either of these papers that are older than a week, or so, appear to be broken. This could make following some of the older threads quite difficult.
  19. Excellent picture! What a unique perspective.
  20. Did anyone see Dennis Archer in attendance at Rosa Parks
  21. The Penney's at Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn.
