The article says they are consolidating the drive-through building and the main building into this new branch. The owner is John Springsteed, who has attempted to buy up the entire block bordered by Central, Hawthorne, Sunnyside and Oakland. To complicate things, there are multiple zonings within the block, and a few homeowners, myself included, are not interested in selling. I know he just signed a rental lease on one of the bungalows that he owns on the block, so nothing will happen any time really soon if that's any indication.

They are connecting the sewer lines to those on Central Avenue. For months, they have been collecting the sewage in an underground "basin" at the end of the street, and regularly sending a truck out to pump out the contents. This will allow the sewage to continue on to the Central Avenue pipes.

Absolutely. I think the side of the block that faces Central Avenue is ready for development and I fully support it. The sad part IMO, are the 5 bungalows on the back side of the block that will most likely be demolished, and the affect that will have on the small cluster of single family homes living in the neighborhood behind it. the side facing central Avenue is B-2, so it should contain some street level amenities.

Had dinner last night at Workman's Friend on Central Avenue for the first time. All tables were full- standing room only at the bar. The staff was friendly and fast, and the food was great. They really had their act together especially considering it has only been open a couple of weeks. A great addition to the neighborhood.

I just wish they would plant trees along central avenue alongside the entire parking lot. That alone would make a huge difference, and there aren't any power lines to contend with. I suppose a few parking spaces would need to be sacrificed, however.

On my way home from work yesterday, I saw a bulldozer behind the Todd's Flowers building starting to tear a portion of it down. Does anyone know what the new building will look like? It was mentioned earlier in the thread, but I can't seem to find anything concrete.

Would it be at all feasible to move the Tommy's Pub building to one end of the parcel and work it into the design, similar to what the Ratcliff did with the building that currently houses Bernardine's downtown? If people are so passionate about that business, the effort might go a long way to keep all parties happy. Of course I am no expert on what that would entail- maybe it just wouldn't end up cost effective, or maybe the Tommy's Pub building is not structurally sound enough to do so- but it sure would score some points for the developer.

At last night's city council meeting, the city council approved 7th Street Progression Partners' zoning request to build a 95 unit housing complex on 7th street between Clement and Pecan. They had a rendering of what it will look like if it goes through, but I didn't get a good look at it. Does anyone have that access to that rendering?

Fencing is going up around the old Grand Central, neighboring apartment building and frame shop on Central Avenue- looks like demo is about to begin. I also saw two guys working inside Social Status.

Just noticed a sign for "Catch On Seafood Market" where Volume Lounge was located for a short time. I can't seem to find anything on the internet- does anyone have any info on this? I would welcome a good seafood market in the hood, but can it compete with Harris Teeter's Department, or is Catch On just a name of a restaurant?
