  1. I walked into Barista Parlor many months ago to check it out. I'm sure the place makes a fine cup of Joe (albeit overpriced from what I hear), but I thought the place was just trying to reach such a high level of hipness that I couldn't feel very good about being in there. They've blurred the line between coffee shop and hipster monument.
  2. This is getting too nauseating to even follow anymore http://www.wsmv.com/story/24898063/amendment-to-transporation-bill-could-prevent-state-amp-funding
  3. But Urbanites loooooovvveeee density. I'm sure they won't mind.
  4. Naming rights and approximate opening date announced for new Ice Rink it Antioch http://www.tennessean.com/article/20140304/BUSINESS/303040056/Ford-dealers-awarded-naming-rights-new-Predators-practice-rink
  5. New Restaurant in the Gulch area has permits issued http://www.nashvillescene.com/bites/archives/2014/02/28/work-on-apparent-new-jonathan-waxman-restaurant-to-begin Going in the old Ultimate Tire and Car Care building
  6. I like the design of the Walgreens better than what's proposed for the old convention center site
  7. The U.S. only gets about 13% of its oil from the middle east these days. The vast majority about 75% comes from North America (US/Canada/Latin America). Jobs in the U.S. oil industry are good paying jobs that require a lot of support industries and associated jobs. Let's not go demonizing our friends in the domestic Oil and Gas business at a time where Oil and Gas is one of the few things that we are actually still producing right here in the USA.
  8. The state portion of the AMP is about $35 million If Nashville residents truly want it it would take a one time payment of about $50 for every man woman and child to finance it instead of relying on the state portion. Put it on the ballot do you think it would pass?
  9. I actually had the opposite thought. If this got built and was only so-so that might hurt the chances of future transit projects. I would prefer the first major attempt to be something more of a can't miss. Not that I know what that is but I don't think it's the AMP.
  10. I would be more upset about this if I felt I was going to use the proposed service more. As I sit now I'm 30 feet from the route but I just don't imagine I'd use it all that much. It could be nice occasionally but it just doesn't jump off the page as an obvious winner. I've always been a bit underwhelmed by the proposal, maybe something better will come of this. That being said it is a pretty sad display that someone had to pass an amendment outlawing funding for it. If they didn't want to fund it just vote against that funding when that time comes.
  11. Saw the East Branch Library mentioned above. I finally stopped in there a few weeks ago after living in the neighborhood for about a year. Have been admiring the architecture every time I drive by. I was pretty disappointed that the branch is not really very much of a "library" that the magnificent exterior would seem to indicate. The available material is much much less than I would have thought for a decent sized building. It seems like it serves mainly as an after school day care for the schools across the street. Mostly computers and hang out space. It may better serve the neighborhood that way but I had envisioned an old fashioned dimly lit library with lots of books and furniture for reading on. Obviously you can have any book in the system transferred there for pickup which is great but I was hoping it would be a place to go do some quiet reading but it doesn't look like it is really meant for that purpose at all.
  12. Dang I do love the drive-thru Panera Bread at this location. Looks like that will be toast.
  13. This type of development (in sufficient quantity) IMO is just as important as all of the towers we drool over every time some developer wants to spin off some renderings for fun. It looks like this is destined for the lot across from Joe's Crab Shack correct?
  14. Surely there has to be some middle ground between Green Hills style development and derelict buildings/check cashing joints. It would be nice to have some more common amenities (aka not selvage denim boutiques) in five points for the residents in the area.
  15. At some point doesn't the damage to Palmer's reputation from having his name up on the WES sign next to the empty hole persuade him to sell? Or for people with that much money does it just not matter.
  16. All of this infighting in Nashville is seeming more and more like a moot point. I have not heard a peep about the federal funding for this project and legislature is opposed to it for the state portion. It's not worth getting all jazzed up over when the thing is unlikely to get paid for anyways. The larger conversation about Nashville public transit is important but the AMP still seems pretty far away
  17. To generalize an entire quadrant of Nashville as a bunch of rich, backward thinking, hate mongers is just about as ignorant and short sighted as the people you are attempting to describe. There are a laundry list of legit concerns related to the AMP proposal and the impact this will have on the lives of West Nashville residents is far and beyond the impacts in East Nashville given how much of the route is on the west side of town. One disgruntled lady does not represent the entire opposition. And speaking of those rich NIMBYs I'd be interested to see how much of the city tax revenue that will be directed toward this effort come from West Nashville as opposed to the other regions. The "rich" folks consume more, drive more, and pay more property taxes so they are definitely footing a disproportionate chunk of the city's share of the AMP funding. So let's see they are going to be impacted more by the AMP and they are going to be paying for most of it so maybe it's not right to completely marginalize their concerns and anoint the East Siders as the crusaders for all that is right and just in Nashville.
  18. http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2014301090092 Another step forward for Sheet Music
  19. I was also surprised to see this site as a burning pile of rubble yesterday. The facelift of Main Street is well under way.
  20. That's a great looking building. Not the coziest spot ever, next to a parking garage and across from a parking garage but it's still cool.
  21. The Homewood Suites by Hilton Nashville Vanderbilt hotel will have an entrance to the restaurant, but guests also can enter through the main entrance off West End Avenue. Sounds like it will be connected
  22. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20131226/LIFE02/312260080/F-Scott-s-close-Green-Hills-related-venture-open-West-End Didn't see this posted anywhere else on the board. F. Scott's moving to 24th and West End this spring.
  23. Unreal that of the Top 52 metros only 2 have had their median income rise from 2007-2012. For all of the new fancy stores, restaurants bars around town catering to people with money there is a mammoth swath of people who have just been completely left behind.
