  1. Can someone tell me why there is a height restriction in Franklin on buildings? I drove through Buckhead today and marveled at the beautiful tall buildings in this burb of Atlanta. It's a shame because it would look nice to have a corridor of large building on the east side of 65. I doubt we will ever see a burb of Nashville with large buildings surrounding the city as such.
  2. It's a beautiful day in Nashville. For those that don't get to come down here everyday, here is a viewpoint from where I work. You can see the progress on the Hyatt and Omni. (Does anyone know how to post images without first saving them to the Urban Planet media folders?)
  3. The Hyatt, Omni and MCC in sunny Nashville
  4. You know. When it comes to family entertainment I am really disappointed in Nashville. My family and I have the best times in places like Chattanooga and Gatlinburg. I wish downtown Nashville would have more family options. (BTW - I am not suggesting we turn into a t-shirt/go-cart mecca like Pigeon Forge) There just isn't a lot for families in Nashville. - The Zoo: It's a good zoo. We have a season pass. - Science Center: It's ok one time. The exhibits get a little stale and need work. - Nashville Shores: Eh, it's trying. Bless it's heart. I would love to see Nashville use it's 1st Ave. land for Chattanooga-like riverfront development. Or what about a museum not in the basement of another building with some real headlining exhibits? But downtown is a great place for country music and the 21+ crowd. It's just not terrific to draw in families. We love staying in downtown Chattanooga and have 2 aquariums, kids science museum, zoo, baseball park and IMAX theater. For us that's a 1-2 night stay and we drop some $$$ in the city during that time. (Esp if we hit Rock City or Lake Winnie) I don't see an amusement park coming to the mid-state. Families will travel to Atlanta, Pigeon Forge, Holiday World... and maybe even back to Louisville one day. No one will build anything here. Sorry about the rant. This weekend we head to Atlanta to drop more "family dollars" at a different city with a lot more to offer families. It would be great if we could pull in out-of-state family dollars in Nashville.
  5. And more apartments in Cool Springs. http://www.coolsprings.com/news/crescent-building-252-apts-in-cool-springs/
  6. The construction crew working on the Hyatt hit a watermain. Water everywhere. (I have a photo will post later) I guess I'm not having that bad of a day afterall.
  7. The Omni crane is making it's way down and the land for the Hilton Garden Inn is pretty much all cleared out. I will be interested to see with the HGI will do about the elevation changes on that site. Build accordingly or drill?
  8. You mean in the SEC, right? Neyland is #3 in the country behind the Big House and Beaver Stadium.
  9. Small but... buildings are coming down at the HGI site. The Hyatt deceived me! I thought the front was facing the Hampton Inn but as it turns out that is the back and has a large enclave. The front actually faces 3rd ave and Malloy.
  10. Fence drilling and interior destruction taking place at the porperty for the HGI. I would think main demolition to start up next week.
  11. I live right down the road from the Carothers and McEwen intersection. There is a lot of land around here primed and ready for development. Personally, I welcome the development. But green space is plentiful in Franklin, if you know where to look for it. There are acres of preserved battlefield south and east of the city, the Harlinsdale horse farm, the massive Crockett park and trail system in Brentwood, multiple parks with soccer and baseball fields, and so on. In the Cool Springs area we have Liberty Park and numerous pocket parks. And I always take the kids over to Trinity park to run around. Everyone would argue that we would love to have more green space (including me). But if you live in the area, and you can't find some to enjoy, you're not looking hard enough.
  12. Can someone confirm the height of the new West End towers? I still see some sources that say 406 feet yet I have seen other sites that put them much shorter. Thanks! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Nashville
  13. The yellow shows the area the HGI will sit. The official address will be on 3rd avenue (for vehicle entry most likely). I am sure the main front will fave KVB.

  15. Took a walk by the future Hilton Garden Inn site. They are still core drilling. The south building has asbestos too so I'm not sure if that would delay any demolition. The site is on a spike in elevation so even a moderate 11 story building will look tall from a distance. Especially with no other tall buildings adjacent.
  16. The strain that this would put on 96 west of Franklin is going to be insane. Westhaven alone has made that area unbearable to drive. (That and the numerous school zones.) The Mack Hacker extension is still years away and the widening of the existing loop is a few years away from completion.
  17. Hey all. New to the boards but have been reading for a while. I work downtown in the Ragland building on 2nd and Korean Vets Blvd and can keep my eyes open on things in the land of SoBro. I can get some pics out of new Hilton Garden Inn development and everything else going on... especially the guitar shaped buildings made from Legos.
