  1. I started my business,Tiger Deaux-nuts in Baton Rouge for EXACTLY the reasons listed in this article. As a matter of fact, the author may have quoted me many times without realizing it! Thanks you very much for sharing!
  2. I like the idea of residential with retail on the lower floor. There is not enough retail space on that side of downtown.
  3. Noticed today that a brand new sign for River House has been put up. There had been no sign at all in the last 6 months. Interested to see what this means.
  4. I like the thinking. I can't really imagine your proposal for Dalrymple, however I completely agree with the Parker extension in between Burbank and Nicholson.
  5. Where else would they go thats existing? Costco is hands and fists better than Sams Club, Im freaking pumped!
  6. Interesting that they want to compete with Jimmy Johns, Magpie and Frankies. Best of luck to them, but phew, not sure about that spot.
  7. This is potentially exciting! 500 jobs is very significant, and could lead the way for more business growth downtown. IBM has a HUGE brand awareness. If they move, what message does that give to other large businesses?
  8. This rennovation has been in the works for quite some time. Not sure if it can sustain this concept or not, but I really hope it is successful. A true sports bar would be a nice addition in that section of government street.
  9. Thanks! Engle reality is building another one of these housing projects called "University Edge" at McKinnley and Alaska. Great for the neighborhood, and in a part of town that is not yet saturated. The success there would be a test for me to determine how saturated it really is. I remember reading that it would be 2017 at the earliest before this development at Alex Box would be finished. Hopefully when done, it will tie in nicely to the rest of the progress in the Nicholson corridor area!
  10. An investment isn't just a monetary measurement. Time, money, labor, effort, resources. Throwing money and investment are two completely different things. If we truly care about improving our city, we will work to improve the weak points instead of turning our head at the "problems". We need to build and revitalize at the same time.
  11. I don't think they should be building new buildings. I like the example of Tiger Manor. Look at what it was, and what it has become. Invest money into what is there and turn it nice again. Students will come back if there is a reason to.
  12. Let me rephrase. If developers were to reinvest in what already is in Tigerland, and make it a more attractive place for students to live, a potential result would be a lower crime rate. That is not to say crime would cease to exist. However as an area becomes more densely populated with those who aren't likely to commit crimes, the risk would certainly go down. It isn't impossible to completely eliminate crime. But it is certainly possible to increase the safety of an area by making it more appealing to a higher educated and higher income person (someone less likely to commit crimes). Just my thoughts, just would rather see money invested in what already exists, than ignore the problems and build elsewhere.
  13. I wonder how many more of these "luxury student complexes" can be built before the market is over-saturated? I wish companies would spend more time redeveloping older complexes (like what was done at Tiger Manor). $1.5 million could go a long way in updating and cleaning up and driving out crime in an area like Tigerland.
