  1. Disney unveils plans for Disney Springs

I'd be surprised if anyone does not see this as clear indication that the Orlando tourism and convention demographic is changing.  This is a decidedly upscale shift.  Gone are the recognizable big brands of the 90s (Planet Hollywood, Virgin, Wild Horse Saloon, BET), the boilerplate "must have" venues, opting instead for an immersion in a uniquely Florida setting and theme.  This is about as boutique as Disney has ever been and it's their first real attempt to draw connections between their brand and their location.  Not just Florida, CENTRAL Florida (Springs, anyone?).

If this is the start of a new and improved Team Disney Orlando, bring it on.  They've been riding the coattails of TDA for 20 years and it hasn't done them a heap of good.

THIS!! Most, if not all, of the major shopping centers (at least ventured by tourists) have gone upscale or are on the route to becoming more upscale. Even parts of International Drive will move towards this end of the spectrum. (I-Drive Live, and the rumored Planet Hollywood Hotel). This is exciting stuff!! I mean, the parking garages alone have me excited, and seeing Disney going through this route officially shows the shift, Even though they are one of the last to get in the movement.

  2. Yea, Zara is definitely the most shocking of this entire transition. The store could have used a different layout/design though, the Florida Mall Zara is smaller yet has a better selection and better interior design and is always busy, which isn't a bad thing. It's interesting because the second level of the Florida Mall XXI was actually supposed to be the second level to the Zara (that would've been heaven!), I guess they didn't anticipate the success it is now when they did that last minute change.

  3. I don't see how these outlets can add new stores and not add the adequate parking necessary. Not having that additional parking structure is going to be a disaster since it is already difficult to find parking throughout most of the year and customers and employees have had their vehicles towed for parking at the plazas across Vineland.  SMH! It would've been a nice addition  :(

The site contains an actual rendering of "phase III" for the Premium Outlets. Just thought I'd share this information.

I believe that's the older plan.  The new plan is much smaller, with no garage, smaller retention pond, and no pedestrian bridge.

  4. Wax museum and Ferris wheel are for grownups?

I was thinking that as well, but in one of these articles there are talks about bringing a 20,000 sf "Vegas-style Nightclub" to this property. With that and along with whatever the Planet Hollywood Hotel could potentially bring it just might be expanding into that field.

  5. Not the best quality photo, since this was taken by a friend on Instagram, but it's interesting to see the several mid-rise apartment complexes lined up forming the street wall along Orange Ave already. This was taken from the courthouse. Now if only those parking lots and empty lots were not... empty.

  6. Architecture of this scale alone can attract more retail downtown, in my opinion. I love it though, modern architecture embracing old Florida characteristics! The Smart Car dealership is such a cool concept to take over that small of a space downtown(but that was 2007 rendering, might not happen at all  ). We need more of this modern architecture of this scale to mesh with the old. European cities, and several U.S. cities have done this so well, it would be nice to see this in our own.
